About This Listing
Come and be part of an island community for part of your vacation. We are happy to accommodate larger families as well as small retreat events. A seven minute drive from the ferry dock and beaches, or a 10 minute walk to the lake, you feel the water everywhere.
You will find a family vacation home with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Both bedrooms have queen beds. Sleeping loft with queen sofa sleeper. The loveseat in the downstairs bedroom is also a twin sofa sleeper. Spacious great room with views of the golf course and abundant wildlife. Quiet island retreat with many family activities just minutes from your door, including golfing, swimming, hiking trails, beach combing and water sports. The island is accessible by public car ferry from Steilacoom WA. Once on the island, the pace of life slows down and you can enjoy the local gatherings, the Community Farm with Saturday Market, no stop lights as well as plenty of places to just be quiet.
A special amenity is our custom built wet sauna. You can have your own private spa experience after a busy day of nature play or sport activity.
Anderson Island is the southern most island in Puget Sound. It is accessible either by public ferry or by private boat. The ferry is a 20 minute ride from Steilacoom, WA, which is located about 40 minutes south of Seattle and 30 minutes north of Olympia.
There is public transportation to the ferry dock using the Pierce Transit bus system.
The ferry ride itself is the beginning of your beautiful stay on Anderson Island. Have your binoculars ready to view porpoise and seal alongside the boat, and maybe you will be the one to see an Orca whale siting. On a clear day you will see the Olympic mountains to the west and Mount Rainier to the east as you make the 3 mile crossing.
The beaches of the island abound with sea stars and sand dollars, which are visible in native beds when the tide is low. The bald eagle loves to fish along the salt water coast. The island was formed from receding glaciers, which left pebble beaches, as well as two fresh water lakes suitable for swimming and water play. Along the freshwater lakes are osprey nests and be prepared to look for the osprey as it fishes for its evening meal in the stillness of the evening.
This island home is suitable for relaxation and nature activities, but it is also accessible to downtown Seattle for a day trip, or to nearby Mt. Rainier for a day hike. One just needs to be aware of the ferry times in order to return to your island retreat before the last boat so that you can rejuvenate again.
The island community has one full service restaurant, one coffee shop serving breakfast and lunch, one general store with just about everything you would ever need including the gasoline and diesel pumps, two gift shops, churches, and a community center.
Please be aware that there is a Washington State Lodging Tax of 9.9 % that will be charged upon arrival. You can pay with either a check or with credit card using paypal. Waiting until arrival keeps the tax to the lodging and apart from the airbnb service fee. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Come to relax, to play, to rest.
Pets by permission.
Please no smoking.
This home is a seven minute drive from the ferry landing....on the golf course fairway, with wooded views!
The house was very clean with easy instructions to follow. The Sauna was a huge hit, and we had a wonderful time and expirience! The beds were very comfortable, and the space is very relaxing.
Beth was an excellent host - very responsive and accommodating. The cabin was cute and clean, the area very quiet and peaceful, and there were nice little extras included which made us feel even more comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and I would recommend Beth's cabin to anyone who's looking for a relaxing weekend getaway.
The house was super comfortable. With fully equipped kitchen and 2 bedrooms, we didn't have any problems managing with 2 couples and 2 kids (4+2)
Lake Florence and Lake Josephine are very close by car, close to general store as well.
1) The house has a binder of information to give tips about the things to do on the island and in the house, it is super helpful so do read that stuff. ..
2) Don't leave your car at the docks, take it you in the ferry to the house. The lakes are not that close. Plus for some other sight seeings you may have to drive a little further.
Overall, a great home and great island!
We loved outstay on Anderson island. The house was perfect and Beth was easy to get a hold of and helpful. We are already planning our next trip.
About the Host, Beth
We have travelled extensively as a military family. Now that we are settled on Anderson Island we look forward to hosting other adventure bound travellers. Family is important to us, so we welcome those needing some down time from the busyness of their regular schedules. We will try to accomodate each family so that you too can find the wonder of this beautiful place. I like to walk my yellow lab, Carley, cook for friends and family, and garden. Our family includes four adult children and spouses, and four grandchildren that love to come to the island for a visit and ride on Papa's tractor.
