About Ubud:
Ubud, a town in central Bali, is far removed from crowded Kuta, and is regarded as the cultural centre of Bali. It is famous as an arts and crafts hub, and much of the town and nearby villages consist of artists workshops and galleries.

Ubud has in the last years developed to be one of the major places in the world for Yoga, healing, alternative medicine and organic food. Alchemy, a restaurant, shop and holistic treatment center is only 400 m from our villa. Also "Hubub", a coworking place is nearby.

There are some remarkable architectural and other sights to be found, and a general feeling of well being to be enjoyed, all thanks to the spirit, surroundings, and climate of the place.

  • Really nice place to stay. Ask to Kadek where you can find good meals. You are in the heart of the rice fields. Very good experience

  • Had an AMAZING time here with Kadek. She is wonderful, and the location is a piece of private paradise tucked away amongst some quiet rice paddies. All the best!

  • Kadek is a great host, very polite and trustworthy. The place was clean and nice, but you should ask about specific conditions. We had a shared bathroom outside our chamber, kitchen also shared, and the room was fairly small, about 3x3. For the same price you can get much better accommodation in regular hotels.

  • We were pleasantly surprised at the size and furnishings of our accommodation. The rooms looked smaller in the photos, and there's a desk and chair in the bedroom, and a fridge in the kitchen that weren't featured on the website at all.

The view from the large terrace is lovely, and the sounds of frogs, birds and roosters are hard to beat. We spent most of our time when at the villa on the terrace.

Kadek, the housekeeper/part-time caretaker, makes incredible breakfasts. Ask for the delicious Balinese style breakfast of mixed fruits and sticky rice treats and you won't need to eat again till dinnertime. She speaks good English, is very congenial, and is happy to help with advice and tips on the local culture.

The internet connection at Villa Sawah was excellent at all times, and very fast.

The small pool is in a shady area, so always cool, and is kept very clean.

The walk into Ubud's centre is about 20 minutes, partly through rice paddies and a quiet village, and partly along a busy road, but if you can't be bothered walking, taxis (or motor bike hire) are plentiful and cheap.

We found Borge the owner, to be very pleasant and accommodating, and we really enjoyed our time at Villa Sawah. We would recommend it to anyone wanting good-value, basic accommodation in a quiet area outside of Ubud's busy centre.

  • Great place with ricefield view, pool, and garden. The owner and housekeeper are wonderful.

The housekeeper is very helpful and cheerful.

  • The villa was the cleanest and most beautiful place we stayed in Bali. The owner was so kind and helpful for all of us. My children were delighted to play in the comfortable swimming pool together with him. We loved the beautiful dog, too. The paintings were amazing. We enjoyed taking a walk around the villa where there were almost no barking dogs on the paths. I was happy to cook looking at the top of coconut trees. The wi-fi was reliable enough to use (website hidden). I should have taken more photos of the organic garden. The stay at this villa was one of the most precious experiences for us in Bali. Thank you, Borge! We are looking forward to seeing you again!

  • there are 2 wonderful things about villa sawah.

    1. the wonderful host kadek and 2. the very wonderful kadek.

she treated me like family, her breakfasts are amazing in the Balinese tradition if u like or western if that's how you flow

she is soooo hospitable and capable of helping you with anything you need whilst you stay at the villa.

the villa was perfect for me on a budget, it felt more like a traditional balinese home than anything, it's not 5 star by any stretch, but that was not what i was after, the little puppy is very cool as well

the frogs and bats at night prove for very entertaining relaxation, and i almost spent the whole night in the hammock - which is a special touch for unwinding. you could easily sleep thru to morning in it if you choose

the in house moped allows travel into ubud, which is a nice picturesque joy ride

i had a great time here, with kadek as host, her brother katut and little niece + the puppy popping in as well .... it's very, very quiet, and peaceful place / surrounded by the lovely sounds of natural bali

highly recommend it ... the ducks grazing in the rice field are very cool to observe also

  • We really loved our stay here. It was a little hard to find (as are many places in Ubud) but wonderful when we did! Kadek served lovely breakfasts and it was tempting to just relax in our room in the rice fields. It is close to town, but far enough away you just listen to the frogs and the roosters! It has a small kitchenette which is a nice addition. The internet was fast and reliable.

  • Good place, just outside the busy centre of Ubud. The villa is surrounded by ricefields and friendly farmers. Don't forget to bring your flashlight when you return to the villa in the evening. An iPhone will do too..
