Ubud, a town in central Bali, is far removed from crowded Kuta, and is regarded as the cultural centre of Bali. It is famous as an arts and crafts hub, and much of the town and nearby villages consist of artists workshops and galleries.
Ubud has in the last years developed to be one of the major places in the world for yoga, healing, and personal growth. Or, you can just come here and enjoy the great atmosphere and all the great places to eat.
There are some remarkable architectural and other sights to be found, and a general feeling of well being to be enjoyed, all thanks to the spirit, surroundings, and climate of the place. There are many tourists attractions in and around Ubud.
We are right next to beautiful ricefields, palmtrees, and lovely greens. Its quiet since we are away from the mainroad. The villa is in a Balinese village. You will see farmers and local people doing their daily activities. Since we are close to nature you can hear the sounds of birds, and other animals. Such as roosters and frogs. The lodging is in an enclosed and cozy garden.
Best way to get around in Ubud is by motorbike, or bike. Its fine by foot also. The lodging is along a narrow path from the mainroad through the neighborhood and the ricefields. You can access the lodging by motorbike.
If you are a beginner on motorbike and want to use a motorbike its wise to park at the motorbike rental only 5 min. walk away. As the path is narrow and a bit tricky for a beginner. If you want to give it a try afterall, you might experience a more intimate contact with the ricefield than initially planned. At your own peril!! : )
We can help you with motorbike rental, also. If you are more skilled on motorbike, have fun and drive along the path and develop your balancing skills.
All the best

This is a delightful place to stay. Kadek is great - really sweet and funny. Make sure you try her home-made Balinese style breakfast - spectacular! Nice place. The room is small, but good value. I spent all my time around Ubud, rather than in the room. The wading pool and viewing terrace is beautiful. It is a little far to walk to Ubud centre, though, and down a very windey hill. Otherwise, a great experience!
Clean, quiet, cosy and homely, throw in the best host in Ubud, Kadek, and you have the perfect Ubud experience.
Your time in Ubud would not be complete without a stay at villa sawah. Truly a home away from home with extra special touches that will turn your holiday into a real Bali experience.
Wake to the gentle sounds of Ubud from the comfort of the large, cosy bed inside your extremely private, air conditioned cottage. Wander up to the spacious terrace, sit back, relax and watch Ubud come to life as you enjoy a delicious breakfast made specially for you by the most amazing host in Ubud, Kadek.
Take a quick dip to awaken the senses or to cool off after a day of exploring, a plunge pool is certainly a rare find at this price point.
Villa Sawah's location is stunning, take a stroll along the winding path that leads to the main road and you are sure to find many hidden gems of Penestanan village.
Villa Sawah is clean, comfortable quiet and cosy. Kadek's friendliness, service and advice turns a stay at villa sawah into an experience you won't forget.
Having stayed at many hotels and guesthouses in Ubud, villa sawah and Kadek are such an amazing find. I would have no hesitation in recommending a stay at villa sawah to anyone and I will certainly be booking in again next time I'm in Ubud.
Location, service, facilities and cleanliness all add up to an excellent value for money stay.
Did I mention how amazing Kadek is ? :)
Really nice place to stay. Ask to Kadek where you can find good meals. You are in the heart of the rice fields. Very good experience
Had an AMAZING time here with Kadek. She is wonderful, and the location is a piece of private paradise tucked away amongst some quiet rice paddies. All the best!
Kadek is a great host, very polite and trustworthy. The place was clean and nice, but you should ask about specific conditions. We had a shared bathroom outside our chamber, kitchen also shared, and the room was fairly small, about 3x3. For the same price you can get much better accommodation in regular hotels.
We were pleasantly surprised at the size and furnishings of our accommodation. The rooms looked smaller in the photos, and there's a desk and chair in the bedroom, and a fridge in the kitchen that weren't featured on the website at all.
The view from the large terrace is lovely, and the sounds of frogs, birds and roosters are hard to beat. We spent most of our time when at the villa on the terrace.
Kadek, the housekeeper/part-time caretaker, makes incredible breakfasts. Ask for the delicious Balinese style breakfast of mixed fruits and sticky rice treats and you won't need to eat again till dinnertime. She speaks good English, is very congenial, and is happy to help with advice and tips on the local culture.
The internet connection at Villa Sawah was excellent at all times, and very fast.
The small pool is in a shady area, so always cool, and is kept very clean.
The walk into Ubud's centre is about 20 minutes, partly through rice paddies and a quiet village, and partly along a busy road, but if you can't be bothered walking, taxis (or motor bike hire) are plentiful and cheap.
We found Borge the owner, to be very pleasant and accommodating, and we really enjoyed our time at Villa Sawah. We would recommend it to anyone wanting good-value, basic accommodation in a quiet area outside of Ubud's busy centre.
Susan and Sean.
Great place with ricefield view, pool, and garden. The owner and housekeeper are wonderful.
The housekeeper is very helpful and cheerful.
And they have a great dog that´ s fun to play with. : )
The villa was the cleanest and most beautiful place we stayed in Bali. The owner was so kind and helpful for all of us. My children were delighted to play in the comfortable swimming pool together with him. We loved the beautiful dog, too. The paintings were amazing. We enjoyed taking a walk around the villa where there were almost no barking dogs on the paths. I was happy to cook looking at the top of coconut trees. The wi-fi was reliable enough to use (website hidden). I should have taken more photos of the organic garden. The stay at this villa was one of the most precious experiences for us in Bali. Thank you, Borge! We are looking forward to seeing you again!
there are 2 wonderful things about villa sawah.
1. the wonderful host kadek and 2. the very wonderful kadek.
she treated me like family, her breakfasts are amazing in the Balinese tradition if u like or western if that's how you flow
she is soooo hospitable and capable of helping you with anything you need whilst you stay at the villa.
the villa was perfect for me on a budget, it felt more like a traditional balinese home than anything, it's not 5 star by any stretch, but that was not what i was after, the little puppy is very cool as well
the frogs and bats at night prove for very entertaining relaxation, and i almost spent the whole night in the hammock - which is a special touch for unwinding. you could easily sleep thru to morning in it if you choose
the in house moped allows travel into ubud, which is a nice picturesque joy ride
i had a great time here, with kadek as host, her brother katut and little niece + the puppy popping in as well .... it's very, very quiet, and peaceful place / surrounded by the lovely sounds of natural bali
highly recommend it ... the ducks grazing in the rice field are very cool to observe also
We really loved our stay here. It was a little hard to find (as are many places in Ubud) but wonderful when we did! Kadek served lovely breakfasts and it was tempting to just relax in our room in the rice fields. It is close to town, but far enough away you just listen to the frogs and the roosters! It has a small kitchenette which is a nice addition. The internet was fast and reliable.
