About this listing
Situated on a tree lined street, a short walk to the city, and Salthill seashore with its stunning prominade. The house has been renovated and designed using salvaged materials and antiques from many parts of Ireland, and abroad, giving charachter and an eclectic atmosphere. Guests say it has the old world charm of an Irish country house, and the quaintness of an old Parisian Hotel. Most rooms have a fireplace, and there is something mystical about soaking in an old clawfoot bathtub in front of an open fire, whose windows look out on the ruins of an old convent.
Guests can enjoy the privacy of their own lounge and small library where a full breakfast of their choice is served. However, most guests like to sit with us at our 9ft old pine kitchen table, having tea and homemade scones in front of the wood burning stove.
The facilities include multi-jet power shower's, wireless internet, with the use of a big-screen computer which doubles as a tv (supply of movies). There is a state of the art sound system which runs throughout the whole of downstairs.
Location is another key factor when staying at this beautiful home, as it is just 15 minutes walk from both the city centre and 8 mins to salthill promenade, ( bus stop outside door.) I am also within easy walking distance of our wonderful university, and local golf club.
Galway is rrenowned as a cultural landmark, not just in Ireland but throughout the world. We host many festivals each year in literature, theatre, film, and have ongoing art exhibitions. As well as a wonderful museum, we have famous connections with James Joyce, and W.B.Yeats, and many hollywood movie stars have been spotted having a quiet drink and enjoying our wonderful traditional
music. For the brousers we have a vibrant open air farmers market, displaying the best of local produce and local arts and crafts. This is held outside the medieval St. Nicholas's cathedral.
There are day trips to the Cliffs of Moher, and the Aran Islands, Connemara and the Burren, which are truly worth a visit and will linger in your memory long after your trip.
Other Things to Note
There is free private parking.
Marie met us at the front gate and was very warm and welcoming. The rooms are huge. The house is very beautiful restored turn of the century house located in a nice residential area about 15 minutes walk from the center of town. Marie made reservations for us at a good restaurant. I would recommend this for travelers, particularly a couple. The bathroom had a nice claw foot bathtub, as well as a modern shower.
I had the most wonderful stay with Marie, she truly is the most wonderful host, my first airbnb experience exceeded all expectations. Rooms and bathrooms and the whole house in fact are of the highest standard, really beautiful. Great location and pleasant walk back from the city, felt very safe walking back late, as a lone female traveller. I can not find a single fault with this place, truly fantastic! Thankyou Marie.
What a beautiful house! A house with character, and Marie made it a home with style and comfort. As if entering in another era but with modern comfort. I loved how all those little details, came together into something harmonious.
What a fantastic host! A warm welcome, providing all your needs, a lift when raining, booking a good restaurant on a busy weekend evening, an open fire in the sitting room for after dinner, and even preparing a hot bath, candles included.
What a real Airbnb! This is more than a comfortable room with good services. No this is also a place for meeting people, making friends, having a home away from home. A place to come back.
It was my very first experience with Airbnb and my first visit to Ireland and Galway, as well. so I highly recommend staying at Marie's residence during a trip to Galway. It has been great being at Marie'is wonderful house during some days. The house is gorgeous and fantastic, very tastefully decorated. My room and my own bathroom very beautiful, cosy and very elegant, very nice furnished, and also spacious, and, of course, I have slept in a bed which was very comfortable. The pictures reflected perfectly the spirit of Marie's house. The house is in a perfect location, pleasant neigbourhood just a short walk to Galway city center. The best thing of this visit was meeting Marie who is the perfect hostess: friendly, attentive (She came to pick me up at the Galway coach station! and once at home she invited me to taste a nice irish cup of tea with a homemade apple pie as well!!), wonderful person, charming and always ready to help me, every time I have asked her for information and suggestions about Galway. She has been so nice to me that any single time I needed a lift to the city centre or other places, she has given me lift!! I have felt like at home, nice and taste breakfast served at the elegant and large downstairs lounge with beautiful views of the garden, with classical music in the background. She made me feel welcome and happy every moment I have spent in her stunning house. Truly it is worthwhile staying at Marie's house, you will enjoy your visit in Galway!! Thank you very much, indeed for taking good care of me during my vist and opening your gorgeous home to me.
Marie made us feel really welcome. The rooms we had the use of were fantastic and the breakfasts were great. It was one of the best houses we've ever stayed in. We would happily stay there again.
It was our first Airbnb experience and exceeded our wildest expectations. Maria was a wonderful host: welcoming, charming and an excellent cook. Her house is beautiful - the rooms were spacious, comfortable and very tastefully decorated. Nicer than any full-time B&B I have stayed in and in a perfect location in Taylor's Hill, which is a pleasant neighbourhood around 15 mins walk from the city centre.

About the Host, Marie
I live in a recently restored house in Salthill with close proximity to its famous promenade and walking distance to the city centre and Galway Golf club. I love cycling, walking, baking, cooking, antiques and I am passionate about literature, classical music and art. I enjoy like minded people who are interested in getting to know the cultural capital of Ireland. I have a wonderful home which I personally designed, to the highest of standards. It is luxurious and comfortable and i am delighted to open it up to people looking for a home from home.
