The Space

Welcome to Casa de Belle Soleil – a quaint yet simple haven that will cater to your short term accommodation needs for your NYC summer vacation and beyond.

This comfy 11 x 8 spacious room is equipped with a twin sized bed, wireless internet and Digital TV access set up! The room has a good sized built in closet with full length mirror, fold away desk and chair, topped off with deep mahogany hardwood floors.

This space is ideal for someone looking to have a clean, quiet and private place to stay.

The Casa de Belle Soleil package includes eat-in kitchen access; a spacious back yard and shared bathroom.

About me: I am a MBA graduate who is pretty much down to earth. I am originally from London, UK and now live full time in NYC.

The area offers great high street shopping on Rockaway Avenue and local amenities such as a 24 hour Laundromat, supermarket and take away eateries (KFC, McDonalds and Subway on Rockaway Ave are to mention a few). The area also boasts a wide choice of public transportation subway options with Rockaway Avenue and Broadway Junction stations. This is where the A, C, L J and Z lines meet and it is considered one of the largest subway stations in Brooklyn. The Broadway Junction subway stop is also near the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) at East New York Station. Bus options are widely available from the B60, B7 B12 and B14 connections. It is accessible to Brooklyn Museum, Botanical Gardens, main Public Library and Prospect Park - ONLY 15-20 mins into Manhattan!!!!!

A great hidden gem in the Bedford Stuyvesant sub section of Ocean Hill. It is an eclectic neighborhood mix where old meets new. Young urban professionals with a sprinkling of family orientated fun that also offers pockets of stable refined residents, that welcome the burst of energy and diverse changes that the neighborhood brings.

***NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH 2020 CAR SERVICE*** Fear not when hanging out late and you want to experience the NYC nightlife. I have a great relationship with my local reliable car service. Ask me about arranging a late night car service that can collect you from the local station during those late nights home. If you're coming to stay for the first time, I can also arrange car service to pick you up from the airport or your desired pick up point.

I look forward in having the pleasure of hosting you in my home when you visit NYC :-D

DON'T FORGET TO ASK ME ABOUT: Vehicle and Bike hire during your stay at Casa De Bel Soleil. Have the opportunity to get your own personal driver to take you around the five boroughs or the excursion of your choice, Please inquire for further details.

Bike Hire: Explore Brooklyn the best way possible - via bike!!! the many bike lanes Brooklyn provides allows for a smooth ride that uncovers Brooklyn at its finest - inquire for more details.

****NEW**** BREAKFAST AND DINNER
For an additional fee I also offer a catering service; breakfast as well as a dinner menu included into your stay. FULL ENGLISH BREAKFAST or standard authentic dinner cuisine from WEST AFRICA, WEST INDIES and EUROPE offered as examples. Just ask me for more details.

Guest Access

This adorable space comes with a shared bathroom and kitchen AND a spacious private retreat outside, which you will find very peaceful and relaxing, terrific for escaping the scorching NY summer heat. Bed linen, towels and kitchen utensils are always provided.

Interaction with Guests

Interaction with guests: I like to arrange at least one social night for the house guests in the neighborhood as part of Casa De Bel Soleil’s “Welcome to Brooklyn ……” Usually the house guests are from all walks of life and busy schedules but it is nice to get to know one another at least once and I always like to make people feel comfortable during their stay. I ask myself when I travel how I would like to feel at “home” in the space I’m temporarily staying at.

The Neighborhood

What I LOVE about Ocean Hill?? It is that undiscovered hidden gem in the Bedford Stuyvesant sub section of Ocean Hill. As Bedstuy neighborhoods florish with more residents and great places to hang out at, the changes are rapid. Ocean Hill has a charm that it is slowly sharing with those fortunate to live here. It is an eclectic neighborhood mix where old meets new and boasting young urban professionals like myself with a sprinkling of family orientated fun that also offers pockets of stable refined residents, welcoming the burst of energy and diverse changes that the neighborhood brings.

Getting around

The area offers great high street shopping on Rockaway and Pitkin Avenues. The area also boasts a wide choice of public transportation subway options with the 3 Train at Rockaway Avenue. You can also catch the A express, C, L, J and Z trains at Broadway Junction, considered one of the largest subway stations in Brooklyn. The Broadway Junction subway stop is also near the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) at East New York Station. Across the road you will find the L train subway stop at Atlantic Avenue. Bus options are widely available from the B60, B7 B12 and B14 connections. You can catch the B60 on Rockaway avenue going in two directions in Brooklyn; Canarsie and Willamsburg. The B60 will also take you to the J train subway stop at Chauncey Street. Take the B7 bus on Thomas Boyland Avenue which takes you down to the J train stop at Halsey Street. These trains lead you directly into China Town in Manhattan.

  • Michelle was an excellent host. She was nice and available for any question I had. I enjoyed the room and the fact it wasn't far from JFK.

  • This was my first AirBnB experience and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience from start to finish....Everything was as advertised...Michelle, a fellow Londoner was the perfect host...She did more than was expected and I left feeling like family....I would highly recommend a stay with Michelle if you're ever in the Brooklyn area...I will definitely be back.

    Response from Michelle:

Awwww Danny, it was such a pleasure getting to know a number 1 top ranking Pool Player and briefly touching base about home. Your gift was very touching and greatly appreciated. I wish you all the best in your endeavors and do let me know when you're in NYC again. I will keep you posted with any trips I make across the pond. Blessings xoxox

  • Michelle was a wonderful host. It was very nice to chat with her and she was very helpful with directions for groceries etc. in the local area, as well as tips for exploring Brooklyn and Manhattan. This way I got to see a few very nice neighborhoods I hadn't been aware of. Michelle's neighborhood was generally quiet (there was some loud music Saturday night, but within very reasonable hours) and well connected to points of interest via the nearby subway station. I found her home and the room very convenient and comfortable.

  • Michelle's home is wonderful! The common areas – the kitchen, living room and central stairwell are welcoming and clean. The room I stayed in was perfect for my needs – the little AC unit was definitely my favorite part of it! Michelle was an especially attentive host. I could tell she'd done this before as she seems to have thought of everything! She's very gracious and nice and we had a really nice chat. If you are like me, you will probably not want to spend a lot of time on the streets in the area late at night. But I never had any trouble and Michelle's home is very safe and not far from the subway. You'll love it here!

  • I spend a nice week at Michelle's. She is a great host and I immediately felt she wanted me to feel like I'm home. She kindly showed me neighborhood, with all of the important places : subway station, supermarket, drugstore, restaurants,... and also gave me some advise for my visits in Manhattan.
The room is quiet and comfortable with a view on the backyard where you can go relax with a cup of coffee. I also used the kitchen for breakfast and dinner.

  • Michelle was the best host ever! The room I stayed in was so accommodating. She provided me with everything I needed for my stay. There was a TV in the room with dvds and wifi which was easy to use. She was helpful with where to find food, groceries, the subway, and things to do. The house always stays very clean and her kitty is the sweetest :) if you need to stay in the Brooklyn area, stay with Michelle!

  • Michelle was kind, attentive and went to great lengths to make sure I was comfortable and aware of the facilities of her home and also gave me a tour of the local area to help me feel part of the place. No one could have done more. She was generous with her time, even though she has a busy schedule and was extremely helpful with a number of things, such as sorting out a taxi when I was leaving. Her home is warm, comforting and ideally located not only for Brooklyn, but the Subway station for Manhattan and for links to JFK is just a short walk away. The room is great, comfortable and with wi-fi, tv, air-con too, the bathroom is right next door and its a quiet neighborhood. I would recommend Michell's place to anyone.

  • This place was just as described—quiet and comfortable. Michelle was very communicative and helped me with a late arrival when a work event ran long. Recommended.

  • Michelle was a lovely host. Welcoming, friendly, and communicative. Her directions were great and the place itself was nice and clean. I stayed with her before, so this was actually a re-booking - I think having return guests speaks for itself.

    May 2014
  • Cozy as advertised! Clean, easy instructions for internet, basic amenities like shampoo on hand which I appreciated. Michelle was always easily reachable by text or phone to answer questions which I appreciated. A little further from Manhattan than I'd prefer, but a good option if you are on a budget!

About
…… and welcome to Casa de Belle Soleil which is my humble abode – it is a quaint yet simple haven that will cater to your short term accommodation needs for your NYC summer vacation and beyond. Casa de Bel Soleil is a great hidden gem in the Bedford Stuyvesant sub section of Ocean Hill. It is an eclectic neighborhood mix where old meets new and boasting young urban professionals like myself with a sprinkling of family orientated fun that also offers pockets of stable refined residents, welcoming the burst of energy and diverse changes that the neighborhood brings. I live in a century old home which has a lot of charm, charisma and pizzazz and the steam heating system is phenomenally comforting, especially during those cold winter months in NYC winters and the sporadic sound of hot water passing through the radiator pipes brings that extra touch of comfort but you yourself will be very warm and toasty at la Casa de Bel Soleil :-) Hopefully from my commentary you may be able to decipher that I’m very down to earth, friendly and I definitely do have a positive attitude and outlook to life. I enjoy hosting especially on Airbnb as I like compiling itineraries, providing information to curious first NYC timers, basically providing guests with ample information hence making them feel safe and secure in their surroundings. The five things I cannot live without are: •Books: I have many favourite authors but the main two that come to mind are Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Octavia Butler •Travel shows: I LOVE travel shows!!! Globe trekker and Anthony Bordain’s “No Reservations” are among my favourites •Food: I have a passion for cooking when I can and good food. I love Indian, Carribean, African, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, Thai, Mexican, Italian, French, Chinese/Vietnamese (Notice how all the spicy foods are listed first) •Traveling: I have traveled within Europe, West Africa and the US East coast and plan to do a lot more traveling. I love meeting likeminded folks like myself from all corners of the globe. •Current Affairs: I love being kept informed and up to date on world economics, political and social issues as well as being savvy in every day life issues as well. I plan to travel once my schedule permits and I enjoy airbnb hosting because I get to meet different people from other parts of the world and strike up relationships that hopefully leads to a place where I could stay on my travels. … and finally, About Me: I'm a MBA graduate who works Manhattan, NY and New Jersey. I am also involved in a plethora of projects and welcome like minded people like myself to collaborate and share ideas with, from ALL walks of life. I’m originally from London, UK and now live in NYC full time for the past ten years. People may say I am a New Yorker now but I like to claim this on a physical realm especially applying it to the term “acting like I belong”. Once you get this pegged down, there will be no stopping you lol. About You: I like to feel that you would be easy going, clean, tidy and independent, that you would feel comfortable in your space and visa versa. I am respectful of one’s privacy and trust that you would also be the same way too. Feel free to check out Casa De Bell Soleil listing by scrolling to the bottom left hand side of my profile page. Also, feel free to check out my reviews from past guests recommendations AND references so you can get a better idea of who I am. You will also find prices for nightly, weekly and monthly stays once you click on the listings tab on my profile page. I look forward to hearing from you soon … PS: My favourite motto for the moment “Natural talent, intelligence, a wonderful education – none of these guarantees success. Something else is needed: the sensitivity to understand what other people want and the willingness to give it to them. Worldly success depends on pleasing others. No one is going to win fame, recognition, or advancement just because he or she thinks it’s deserved. Someone else has to think so too” – John Luther
