Interaction with Guests
Interaction with guests: I like to arrange at least one social night for the house guests in the neighborhood as part of Casa De Bel Soleil’s “Welcome to Brooklyn ……”, subject to schedules. Usually the house guests are from all walks of life and busy schedules but it is nice to get to know one another if we can (no obligations) and I always like to make people feel comfortable during their stay. I ask myself when I travel how I would like to feel at “home” in the space I’m temporarily staying at.
What I LOVE about Ocean Hill?? It is that undiscovered hidden gem in the Bedford Stuyvesant sub section of Ocean Hill. As Bedstuy neighborhoods florish with more residents and great places to hang out at, the changes are rapid. Ocean Hill has a charm that it is slowly sharing with those fortunate to live here. It is an eclectic neighborhood mix where old meets new and boasting young urban professionals like myself with a sprinkling of family orientated fun that also offers pockets of stable refined residents, welcoming the burst of energy and diverse changes that the neighborhood brings.
The area offers great high street shopping on Rockaway and Pitkin Avenues. The area also boasts a wide choice of public transportation subway options with the 3 Train at Rockaway Avenue. You can also catch the A express, C, L, J and Z trains at Broadway Junction, considered one of the largest subway stations in Brooklyn. The Broadway Junction subway stop is also near the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) at East New York Station. Across the road you will find the L train subway stop at Atlantic Avenue. Bus options are widely available from the B60, B7 B12 and B14 connections. You can catch the B60 on Rockaway avenue going in two directions in Brooklyn; Canarsie and Willamsburg. The B60 will also take you to the J train subway stop at Chauncey Street. Take the B7 bus on Thomas Boyland Avenue which takes you down to the J train stop at Halsey Street. These trains lead you directly into China Town in Manhattan.

Casa de Bel Soleil is located on Bergen Street between Thomas Boyland and Rockaway Avenues, situated in Ocean Hill – a subsection of Brooklyn’s Bedford Stuyvesant neighbourhood (website hidden)
IMPORTANT: Recycling: Please recycle any garbage you have. Plastic and glass should be kept in one bag and regular garbage in another. Please keep paper and cardboard together as well. Recycling is big in NYC and it saves a LOT of time having to go through and separating as it can be cumbersome. We all want to work smarter and definitely NOT harder.
1)You can use all cooking utensils (including Pots, Pans), appliances and cutlery during your stay. Please be cautious in your cooking especially ensuring that the gas stove and other cooking appliances are completely turned off after use.
2)Please maintain upkeep on common areas such as bathroom and kitchen after using. Please clean bathroom and wipe down kitchen surface and cooker once finished.
3)Should you have guests come out to stay during your visit please be aware that there will be an additional charge per night for their stay (as stated on the website).
4)Once given a key, you will be responsible for locking up after yourself if you are the last person to leave for the day.
The house manual is subject to change from time to time with additional information being added to it. Please watch out for updates where necessary – many thanks.

As a AirBnb first-timer staying at Michelle's house was a great experience. Michelle was warm and welcoming and ready to solve any eventual problem.
The neighbourhood is pretty nice, with a well equipped grocery store nearby. Access to the subway is a 5 min. walk away.
I spent a great time at Michelle house, she is kind and always ready to help her guests. She gave me many informations about new york's life and the neighboroods, always smilling she is the perfect host. I recommend this house to everyone !
If i could say one more thing, it will be this one : many many thanks for these 3 months
Michelle was really sweet to me! My trip to New York was totally amazing, and it wouldn't have been the same if I haven't stayed at Michelle's. The room was really nice, I slept really well and there was a table where I could study or have lunch/dinner. I really loved to stay there, she is a really nice person, I miss her very much and also her gorgeous cat, who was my real friend during the whole month I stayed there. She lives very near the subway and it was very easy to go to Manhattan and to other places in Brooklyn. Many times I went to her house from the subway by walk really early in the morning (2 / 3 am) and nothing bad happened. Her house is really big and I always used her kitchen, witch is also really big and clean. I super recommend Michelle's house! It was much better than anything I could expect!
I had great communication with Michelle before I arrived, and she arranged to be at her house to greet me. Upon my arrival she immediately made me feel welcome with her easy going personality and we had a relaxed conversation about my plans and where would be good places for me to try and advise about using the subway. She then showed me the kitchen and how to use the appliances and also had kindly provided complimentary bagels, butter, croissants and cream cheese. British tea, Jaffa cakes and Mr Kipling cakes were also on offer, a nice touch for a fellow Limey. She gave me the keys I would be using to lock my room and the front door and showed me my cozy bedroom and well equipped bathroom. I was given the Wifi access details and shown the TV with Chromecast . The listing was extremely accurate, and was actually better than I expected. Michelle then left me to organize my stuff and have a shower. I got ready and then went out to explore the area for the first time, aided by the subway map Michelle had procured for me.
People in the area were generally friendly and I had no trouble at all in any of the areas I visited. I was even given a free subway ticket and asked "How do you like our city?" on my first walk into the local subway station by some local high school kids. That's something I cant imagine many British kids doing. I ended up getting off the subway only one stop away and I just explored the area on foot that first night, eventually getting lost and having to use my phone to find my way back, (I was never far away, but the new to me grid system, the different road crossing system and my phones crappy GPS made it abit of a challenge!). Within a couple of days the subway, the grid system and road crossing became second nature and I ended up visiting all the boroughs apart from Staten Island.
The area is great for food lovers, locally I recommend Edna's Soul food, Tower Isle Patties and Wah Sing Chinese, with Nostrand Ave having some excellent Trinidadian bakeries, Vegetarian (Ital) and Halal food. And with several small supermarkets and convenience stores very close by you will never be short of things you need. I probably only scratched the surface. I will definitely return and Michelle's is the place I will stay :)
I felt very welcomed by Michelle. She is thoughtful and organized, and she checked in often just to make sure I was enjoying my stay.
The room was precisely as advertised.

…… and welcome to Casa de Belle Soleil which is my humble abode – it is a quaint yet simple haven that will cater to your short term accommodation needs for your NYC vacation and beyond.
My home is a great hidden gem in the “NEWLY DISCOVERED” Ocean Hill neighborhood, a subsection of Bedford Stuyvesant. Off the beaten track, rich in culture and community, Ocean Hill is an eclectic and vibrant mix of people and where old meets new; young urban professionals, families and new residents eager to explore a part of Brooklyn that intrigues and tantalizes the mind. Ocean Hill also has pockets of established residents that are welcoming the burst of energy and diverse changes that the new Brooklyn Movement brings.
Hopefully from my commentary you may be able to decipher that I’m very down to earth, friendly and I definitely do have a positive attitude and outlook to life. I enjoy hosting especially on Airbnb as I like compiling itineraries, providing information to curious first NYC timers, basically providing guests with ample information hence making them feel safe and secure in their surroundings.
The things I cannot live without are:
•Books: I have many favourite authors but the main two that come to mind are Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Octavia Butler
•Food: I have a passion for cooking when I can and good food. I love Indian, Caribbean, African, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, Thai, Mexican, Italian, French, Chinese/Vietnamese (Notice how all the spicy foods are listed first).
•Traveling: I have traveled within Europe, West Africa the Caribbean and within the US. I plan to do a lot more traveling; Asia, Central & South America, you’re next . I love meeting like minded folks from all corners of the globe.
•Current Affairs: I love being kept informed and up to date on world economics, political and social issues as well as being savvy in everyday life issues as well.
I plan to travel once my schedule permits and I enjoy Airbnb hosting because I get to meet different people from other parts of the world and strike up relationships that hopefully leads to a place where I could stay on my travels.
… and finally, About Me: I'm a MBA graduate, a freelancer and investor. I am also involved in a plethora of projects and welcome like minded people like myself to collaborate and share ideas with, from ALL walks of life. I’m originally from London, UK and now live in NYC full time for the past ten years. People may say I am a New Yorker now but I like to claim this on a physical realm especially applying it to the term “acting like I belong”. Once you get this pegged down, there will be no stopping you lol.
About You: I like to feel that you would be easy going, clean, tidy and independent, that you would feel comfortable in your space and visa versa. I am respectful of one’s privacy and trust that you would also be the same way too.
Feel free to check out Casa De Bell Soleil listings by scrolling to the bottom left hand side of my profile page.
Also, feel free to check out my reviews from past guests recommendations AND references so you can get a better idea of who I am. You will also find prices for nightly, weekly and monthly stays once you click on the listings tab on my profile page. I look forward to hearing from you soon …
PS: My favorite motto for the moment “Natural talent, intelligence, a wonderful education – none of these guarantees success. Something else is needed: the sensitivity to understand what other people want and the willingness to give it to them. Worldly success depends on pleasing others. No one is going to win fame, recognition, or advancement just because he or she thinks it’s deserved. Someone else has to think so too” – John Luther
