About This Listing
Hello, i have it double since i had here my old opinions about the flat, you can check them here but to make reservations it has to be on the other announce, sorry for the inconvinience
I expect of you to love the house as it if was yours.
Hi would highly recommend Jojo's lovely apartment in the El born region of the city.
The apartment is compact but light, tidy and though there are restaurants and bars on the street remains fairly quiet.
The apartment is well placed to give you a great base in order to explore the city and get the most of your time in Barcelona.
My wife, son & I stayed in El Born for a long weekend after a week long business trip. Jojo could not meet us due to a family commitment, but her friend Charo was awaiting us, even after a late plane arrival. Everything in the home was exactly as in the photos and just as the other reviews had mentioned. We were thrilled with the neighborhood and we felt right at home. We absolutely loved our host's artist bend and the eclectic collection of decor and furnishings. We had a few questions regarding hot water and the wifi, but Jojo was quick to respond with solutions. She even arranged a 4am taxi ride to the airport for our departure. The narrow stairs could have been a challenge, but we took it in as a part of our adventure. We were thankful for the beautiful autumn weather, allowing us to leave the windows open for a comfortable night's sleep.
We've already discussed returning to Barcelona to see the many things we missed in our short stay. We certainly hope we would be able to stay with Jojo again.
We spent three days in Joanas apartment in El Born, and it really gave us a taste of Barcelona! With two children aged 7 and 10, we wanted something else than the average hotel-room, and we certainly got that!
The apartment is really rustic and has a personal touch. It was clean and tidy, and bed-linen and towels were provided. During our stay in July, we missed an air-conditioner at night, though. Ask Joana for a fan, and I am sure she will help!
The street is lively and very nice, with several cafes that served great food. It could be a drawback that they don't close until 2-3 o'clock at night in weekends, unless you plan to stay out till closing time... The house is old, and the sounds from the people outside is not easy to avoid. The sound is not noise, and there is luckily no nightclubs or bars with loud music nearby!
All in all we had a great time in El Born, and will recommend Joanas apartment for your stay i Barcelona!
Joana's flat is the sweetest thing you can get in Barcelona! Decorated with a thousand of beautiful details, antiques, pictures and objects full of history, charm, and a amazing natural light on a very typical Barcelona flat.
The bed was very comfortable and everything else was just perfect. It is a very special place to be.
On top of that you are facing the mythical Espai Joan Brossa, a theatre/performance space dedicated to the Catalan poet and visual artist which is still very special for the city history.
The flat is exactly as it shows in the photos. And being there for 3 days you can really experience what is living in Barcelona. I have myself lived in Barcelona for 10 years, and this is for me the best plaza to be at. It's beautiful for it's trees, nice bars, street animation, kids paying and there you can spot the real live of the Barcelona habitants. I just love it.
You have everything you need around, nice bars, restaurants, cocktail bars, Santa Caterina Mercat in case you want to cook yourself a fresh and "yummie dinner", the Ciutadella Park, the beautiful Santa Maria del Mar church and its surroundings, and not so far you can easily get to the beach.
You will be delighted and I will definitely contact Joana again for my future business or fun trips to Barcelona.
Enjoy the atmosphere!
Firstly, the apartment is EXACTLY as you see in the pictures. A beautifully, thoughtfully decorated space which is immaculately clean and light. The kitchen is stocked with everything you could conceive of to cook and there was a big bowl of fresh fruit waiting, which was delicious! The bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroom perfectly functioning and mould-free.
Secondly, you couldn't hope for a better location. It's right on the doorstep of The Gothic quarter and El Born, so you're surrounded by incredible restaurants, bars and all the tourist attractions too! The area is really nice - be mindful of pick-pockets but to be honest we never had any problems at all. Just use normal common sense! The door to the main street is very heavy and secure, and the apartment door was double-bolted, so there was no concerns there either. It's on the doorstep of Ciutadella Park too which is a great place to have a picnic lunch :)
A note about smells - I noticed cigarette smoke coming into the bathroom if you kept the window open, as it opens on to an internal opening in the apartment block which I assume one of the neighbbours must have used for smoking. But if you kept the window closed this wasn't a problem. As mentioned in the other reviews, there is an unpleasant smell from the shower drain, but they have provided a cover for the drain and also bleach to use a little of after each shower, which really helps. To the point where it really isn't a problem. Sometimes it smellt a little if the apartment had been closed up all day, but even then we just opened the windows and in a few minutes it was fine.
Note about noise - it is a noisy street, but only because it's filled with locals enjoying the open space and cafes. There's also the occasional busker, but to be honest, I actually liked the music coming into the apartment and the liveliness of the place. If you're a light sleeper though, just bring some ear plugs as a precaution - I used them on the second night and slept really well. I slept well the other nights too, but that probably had more to do with the mojitos ;)
Finally, it all went according to plan. Joana's friend Ramiro was there to meet us at the time arranged and generously allowed us to stay in the apartment until 6pm on the last day as we had a late flight out from Barcelona. Joana also paid a quick visit on the last day and was in touch during the trip to make sure everything was alright.
It might not the cheapest, but in my opinion, it was such an important part in creating / enhancing our experience that I will always recommend this apartment! A BIG thanks to Joana and Ramiro for making it all possible :D xx
We had a great time at Jojo's lovely apartment. It was a perfect choice for us, situated in the charming bohemian born area, close to the park and a nice stroll away from the metro stations through picturesque alleys. We especially enjoyed Jojo's personal touch in decorating the place - it really made the difference from taking a boring hotel room.
Jojo was most friendly, generous and helpful. We will surely try to stay at Jojo's again if we come to Barcelona.
Jojo's apartment is wonderful. Just as pictured, only cuter in real life. Clean. Very artistic! Perfect location!!! We had a wonderful stay! Jojo was very quick with communication and Ramiro was there waiting on us upon our arrival since she was out of town. We got to meet Jojo as we were leaving and it made all the pieces come together. A lovely woman and a lovely home. Would love to stay there next time we are in Barcelona!
PS on the (American) 3rd floor. Narrow staircase. Good thing we only had to lug the suitcases up once. Otherwise easy peasy!
