Neighborhood highlights

You will enjoy star filled and moonlit nights here at Riata Ranch. Our ranch is about 900 feet above sea level so we typically do not get snow here. It's about a 3 hour round trip to the General Sherman Tree and Giant Forest. See the park website for up to date info and road conditions.

In the winter, the park requires that you have snow tire chains in your possession to enter. You can either buy them at your local auto parts or rent them here in town. I recommend that you buy them before you get here.

We are a real working horse and cattle ranch. There are only about 12 dwellings in the Redstone Valley and our closest neighbor is about quarter of a mile away. We live on a dirt road that can be rather rough at times. Please drive slow to keep the dust down and watch out for animals, especially our friendly dogs as they run loose on the ranch.

Besides the occasional car, all we hear is the river, our cattle, horses, and wildlife which include black bear, deer, bobcats, coyotes, and more. You can watch them all from the safety and comfort of our front porch or take stroll down the road. DO NOT BE APPROACH WILDLIFE. Amazingly, I see tourists try to do it all of the time in the park. It's dangerous, stupid, not good for the animals, and could be very hazardous to your health. Your camera has a zoom, please use it.

The entrance to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks is about 12 minutes away and home to the largest trees in the world including the General Sherman Tree which is the largest living thing on planet earth and 850 miles of hiking trails. It's also home to the highest peak in the lower 48 states, Mt Whitney, and Kings Canyon which the deepest canyon in the lower 48 states.

Lake Kaweah is also minutes away and offers boat rentals, fishing, and water sports. The Kaweah River is the steepest in the lower 48 states and is world renowned for it kayaking and rafting in the spring when conditions permit. See our guidebook for professional guides to book your trip.
