The Space

Greetings! We are so happy that you are thinking of staying with us. If you are new to Airbnb: Welcome! Please read our listing very carefully so that you know what is included and what is not included. We want to be sure that we are a good match for your housing needs.

We include a wonderful breakfast and two Aquarium guest passes; together, these can save you over $90, making the cost of this room the best bargain in the Monterey Bay area! Be sure to read our 150+ reviews from happy guests!

We are asking for a two night minimum stay during the school year and especially on weekends. We can sometimes take one night reservations during our summer time school holiday: June 7 to August 5, however we still prefer two nights on a weekend. If you really want to stay with us for just one night, please email us and we will check to see if it is possible.

We have two guest passes for the Monterey Bay Aquarium, so if you are planning to go there, we can save you some big money: tickets are normally $40 for each adult, so this is an $80 savings! We are happy to loan out the passes, as long as we get them back. The money you save on the Aquarium tickets will almost pay for the first night! : -)

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO USE OUR TWO AQUARIUM PASSES, WE REQUIRE A TWO NIGHT STAY.

With a two night minimum, we often end up with "holes" in our calendar that are for just one night of availability. If you see one of those "one night holes" in our calendar, and you need just that date, feel free to ask about the date you need. If you are filling one of our one-night spots, we will loan you our Aquarium passes for $10 each ($20 for both passes), which is a 75% savings on the cost of the tickets (normally $40 each).

Because we only have two guest passes, and they can only be used once a day, they are available on a "first come, first served" basis. Because we have two rooms that we rent out, please request the day that you would like the passes when you make your actual room reservation. If the availability of the passes is a "deal breaker" for you, send an inquiry first to check on their availability.

PLEASE read the entire description before you book with us. Yes, the room is less expensive than most Airbnb rooms in the area (and MUCH cheaper than the other hosts in the area who offer Aquarium passes), but be sure that you understand why. Our family home is cozy and comfortable, but not huge ... in fact it is rather small by American standards. It is a family home, with a dog, and a cat, and a pre-teenager obsessed with dance, and mail piling up, and a mom who is a teacher who has lots of papers to grade ... our home is clean, but sometimes a bit disorganized.

Check-in is usually after 3 PM. If you need to arrive earlier, we can usually accommodate your needs. Check-out time is flexible.

This room is decorated with many photos, especially nature photos taken by my mother. It is my bedroom. This VERY small bedroom (approx. 10 feet by 10 feet, or 3.2 meters by 3.2 meters) has a queen size Temperpedic bed that is VERY comfortable. The room is really only for two adults, but there is room enough for a small child, either in a port-a-crib, or sharing the bed with the adults. There is a table in the room that you can set things on. This room is directly across the hall from the shared bathroom.

The bathroom has a shower / tub, and there is a bit of storage space for you in the bathroom closet. The bathroom is shared with my daughter and me, so we will need to coordinate bathroom time on school days, plus any guests in the other room. If you forgot any toiletries, or you just want to try our yummy smelling body wash, please help yourself. We have a
hair dryer that you may use.

Because the bathroom is shared by so many, our room rate is a bit lower than the others in the area. However, we have not found sharing the bathroom to be a problem, nor have past guests found it to be a problem. For my daughter's birthday party, we regularly have 10 - 15 girls overnight every year, and it always seems to work out OK, so a few Airbnb guests are no big deal!

Some of the listings compare themselves to a boutique hotel. Staying with us is more like visiting relatives: you get the parent's room, nothing fancy, but comfortable. Remember, we are not a hotel ... this is a family home. I will need to enter the room, from time-to-time, to get things. We will work together to make this as unobtrusive as possible.

Why are we doing this? We like meeting new people from all over. We also like to travel. And, my daughter is a dancer: lessons, costumes, and dance shoes keep us on a tight budget. By booking with us, you are helping Gabby keep dancing!

Be sure to check the Guidebook on our other listing (Monterey area + 2 Aquarium tickets) for lots of recommendations for restaurants and tourist attractions. Many local favorites listed!

The kitchen is available to you, provided you clean-up after yourself. We have a gas stove top, oven, toaster oven, microwave, and dish washer. There will be room for you in the refrigerator, if you need it. We also have a very nice gas grill on the patio outside the kitchen.

On school mornings we will set out a breakfast for you, but we will probably be running off to school/work. However, you are welcome to help yourself to breakfast items in the house; we will show you the night before. Just clean-up after yourselves and we'll be all good!

Most of the time, our schedule does allow us to make breakfast for you; we will keep you informed as to our schedule. Most weekends we make breakfast for everyone: coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juice, croissants, fresh baked bread, cheeses, yogurt, and fresh fruit. We love to entertain. Please let us know if you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions to the items listed, and we will work to accommodate your needs.

If you don't need breakfast, let us know, and we can take $5 off the room rate, per person ... although who can pass up fresh baked croissants and hot coffee, while still in your jammies??? : )

From the outside, the house doesn't look like much. In fact, it is kind of ugly. It is a part of an older, military housing neighborhood, but inside our home is filled with love.

We do have a small, very friendly dog (Bella), and a somewhat friendly cat (Ginger). Sorry, but we cannot accommodate your pet ... two pets are enough for us! If you have pet allergies, this is not the house for you.

NEWS FLASH: Thanks to a wonderful guest, we just got wi-fi!!! We've been pirating for years, so this is a REALLY big deal for us. : ) If you have AT&T service, be warned that many guests have said that our neighborhood has very weak reception for AT&T.

We only have over the air TV reception, no cable, no satellite. This is such a beautiful area, with so much to do ... so we don't spend a lot of time with our TV or computer. We do have a DVD player.

Our home is a duplex. We never hear the neighbors talking or other noises, but we do sometimes feel/hear the vibrations of them walking on the wood floors of our shared home site.

If you need accommodations for more than two people, we have several air mattresses that you may use in other parts of the house. There is room for a port-a-crib for a baby or toddler, but not much else ... this room is very small. We are family friendly, but not baby or toddler-proofed. We can also put an air mattress on the living room floor (the cat will visit you), or in my office (care to file some papers for me???).

If you are a cycling enthusiast, our location is EXCELLENT! CCCX (Central Coast Cyclo-Cross) hosts cross-country mountain bike and road racing events literally in our backyard. The start line for the road races is just steps from our home. Check out their website for their race schedule: (website hidden)

If you are a car, motorcycle, or bicycle racing enthusiast, we are just minutes from Laguna Seca Raceway. Check out their website for their race scheudle: (website hidden)

If you like to golf, we are less than a mile from Bayonet & Black Horse golf course, 36 holes of great golf! See their website for more info: (website hidden) . In addition, there are loads of amazing golf courses in the area.

Our home is located in a VERY safe neighborhood. It used to be an active military base: Fort Ord. Our neighbors are mostly military families attached to the Defense Language Institute and the Naval PostGraduate School. Here are a few websites:

  • Auf unserem Weg von San Francisco nach Las Vegas waren wir 5 Tage bei Teri und Gabby. Die Unterkunft war super: Sehr gute Lage (Monterey Bay Aquarium, Seaside Beach, Fort Ord National Monument), viele sichere Parkmöglichkeiten und eine herzliche Gastgeberin, die die Unterkunft zu einem Zuhause macht (z.B. durch selbstgebackenes Brot).

  • Teri’s and Gabby’s house is an excellent choice for accommodation. It’s clean, has comfortable big bed, you can use kitchen and do laundry without any problem. We especially enjoyed breakfast which Teri prepared for us every morning. Delicious coffee, croissants, cheese and interesting conversation - what a great way to start a day! Our little daughter liked this place as well, because an extremely friendly dog Bella kept her company. We also really enjoyed the day spent at Monterey aquarium. Thank you for everything!

  • We had a great time staying with Teri and Gabby. The bed was very comfortable, even for me, my husband, and our toddler. Breakfast was delicious and the company was pleasant. We also had a great time at the aquarium. I only wish we could have stayed longer!

  • We had a fabulous time in Monterey with Teri and Gabby. They are wonderful hosts and their home (email hidden) to have as a base as you explore the Monterey area. Breakfasts were great and they were ready with helpful info (in a binder no less) and this started our days off on the right note. The tickets to the Aquarium were a big added bonus. Book now!

  • Teri was one of the most generous and hospitable folks we have had the pleasure of staying with (on AirBnb or even with family haha!). Her tidy home with daughter Gabby, dog Bella, and cat Ginger is conveniently located and well priced. Room was clean, bed was comfy, and Teri even provided a delicious breakfast with a cheese plate, croissants, and fresh fruit. Teri was very flexible with the aquarium passes and let us use them the day before we stayed- they were easy to pick up and she was easy to communicate with ahead of time. She is truly gracious and we will definitely stay with them again next time we are in the area. Thanks so much!

  • Teri & Gabby were the most amazing hosts I have encountered on AirBnB. We actually spent good quality time getting to know them. Their house was quaint and family-sweet. The house was in a pretty unique neighborhood and close to everything, Carmel, Monterey, Salinas, etc... They were amazing hosts and extremely detail-oriented. Both mornings we had a beautiful and lavish breakfast with home-baked goods. It was just like being with old friends and family. The room was elegant, private, and very close to the bathroom. Unfortunately, I was sick the entire weekend, but Teri & Gabby made the whole weekend an incredible experience. Their warmth and curiosity toward guests and learning new things is infectious. And wait until you get to pin the maps! Stay here and you'll find out what that's about!!

  • Teri (email hidden)e prepared everything to welcome us as best as possible. Gabby works hard to become a dancer but find time to discuss and train with my daughter. We spent two wonderful days in Monterey and the opportunity to use the aquarium pass is a real advantage.
We were able to share a meal with Tery and Gaby, I learned a lot and Marion was able to improve his English.
The house is very quiet and Bella and Ginger very friendly animals.
We had a great time in the home of Teri and Gabby !

  • Teri and Gabby made our first Airbnb experience one to remember. It was a great one-night stay, and we would definitely stay with them whenever we visit Monterey again. My 4 year old grew very fond of Bella the dog who is really cute and very friendly. Everything was perfect, the room, the bed, the breakfast and the company.
Teri is a wonderful hosts and we recommend them to anyone.

About
I am an 8th grade Social Studies teacher at a local, public middle school. I teach U.S. History and (sometimes) World History. My daughter and I live in a small duplex on the former Fort Ord base. We share our home with a cat (Ginger) who loves to have her chin scratched, and a dog (Bella) who will wag her tail and love you instantly. FYI, Bella is a small, quiet dog ... she is older, and has only barked three times in the last year. Really! We have a busy schedule that includes a lot of time spent at my daughter's dance studio (she does ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, contemporary, and lyrical). We love to go hiking in the local area. If I had all the time in the world, I would do more quilting. I am a former National Park Service ranger and one of our favorite places to visit is my former work site: Yosemite National Park. We go camping there at least once a year. If you are planning to go to Yosemite National Park as a part of your trip, I would be happy to assist with travel info. I have noticed that many international visitors make hotel reservations at locations that are a VERY long drive from Yosemite Valley; perhaps I can make some suggestions to you to save you some driving time. We love to travel. Gabby and I have been to Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Nevada, Virginia, Washington, D.C, New York City, and Denmark. We have gone by planes, trains, and automobiles (as well as car ferry). We have stayed in fancy hotels, campgrounds, youth hostels, people's homes, Motel 6, and even a tepee. Each experience is different, and each is an adventure. When I was younger, I had three study abroad experiences: in Belgium (the summer after high school), in Denmark (a year of college), and in France (a summer internship in grad school). All three involved living with a host family, and all three deeply shaped the person I am today. Part of why I would like to host travelers is to "pay it forward," to thank those who gave me a place to stay. Languages spoken: my daughter is able to help you with Spanish, however, I don't speak it. I used to speak some Danish and French, but both are very rusty from lack of use. Another reason to stay with us is to help a single mother pay for braces and ballet : ) Staying with us will help my daughter continue with her dance lessons and competitions. We are grateful for your consideration and look forward to having you visit us soon!
