About this listing
Our 2 bedroom open plan cottage overlooks the rainforest with mature gardens and a private creek with swimming hole. The cottage is adorned in handmade mosaics and is on the edge of the national parks rainforest, regularly visited by cassowaries
The master bedroom has a king size bed and verandah looking out onto the forest so that you wake up to stunning views every morning
Surrounded by birds, butterflies and wildlife, Moo Bay Muse is a beautifully decorated eco-cottage in the heart of the Daintree rainforest in Cow Bay next to the Great Barrier Reef.
Purpose built as a place to rest, relax and unwind, the Muse sleeps a maximum of 4 adults (or 2 adults and three children). It has has an airy open plan design to let the house and its guests breathe, with four verandahs allowing guests to enjoy views of mature gardens and ancient forest from every room.
The Muse has one master bedroom and one loft bedroom, both with verandahs. The rooms have king size beds and the loft can also be made up as 2 king single beds on request. It also has a semi outdoor shower (connected to the house, but overlooking the forest), full kitchen, dining room, outside dining, bbqs and fire pit for outdoor cooking.
The original owner and builder of the Muse was a landscape gardener and mosaic artist so the house is filled with beautiful artistic touches and mosaic masterpieces (the reason we fell in love with the place when we were guests) peppered through out the house and hidden around every corner.
Guests escape to the Muse to experience an eco-friendly lifestyle with the cottage run on solar power and a rain fed water supply. You can enjoy the peace and tranquility of the Daintree in this private retreat which enjoys year round gentle sea breezes. Explore the surrounding rainforest alive with abundant birds and wildlife.
The property backs onto world heritage listed national park and has a private creek at the rear of the house which meanders its way through the property with several small "bathing" holes to cool down in. Deserted and beautiful Cow Bay Beach is nearby.
The Daintree Rainforest is one of the oldest remaining rainforests in the world and remains unspoilt despite the increasing pressures of encroaching civilisation. It is home to thousands of plant species and is alive with a diverse selection of native fauna including the Cassowary. Cassowaries, rainforest monitors and lizards, several types of tree frogs as well as many species of birds and butterflies live in the forest that surrounds the Muse...and on a recent trip a biologist found an endangered species of frog - the mist frog - thriving in our creek ;-)
We have been named one of Trip Advisor's top vacation rentals for the past three years with a five star rating across 30 reviews. You can see what previous guests think of the Muse on Trip Advisor
*The Muse is a pet friendly property - but please advise you are bringing them when you book.
When visiting Cow Bay please tread lightly as the Daintree wilderness is an important environmental asset
The Muse has a large selection of books, CD's, and DVD's as well as an IPod dock; camp-fire, gas hot-plate and weber BBQ; guitar, snorkelling gear, kayak, four bicycles, incense, candles and more.
Moo Bay Muse is close to a wide range of activities and adventures. Guests can easily access rainforest and wildlife walks, swim in freshwater creeks, snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef, horse ride along deserted white sand beaches, sea kayak to nearby Snapper island, cruise on the Daintree river in search of crocodiles, birds, butterflies and other wildlife, 'surf' the jungle canopy and have the chance to see cassowaries in the wild.
Other Things to Note
The things I love most about Moo Bay Muse is the outdoor shower overlooking the forest, the butterflies dancing in the garden, the creek to cool off in and the wide variety of birdsong throughout the day.
We'd love you to come and experience the Muse - the cottage where time stands still. Please treat it with respect, as if it were you own ;-)
Moo Bay lounge area leading out to kitchen and dining room. We leave all the doors open so that the forest comes to life in the house
What a lovely stay we had at Moo Bay Muse. It has everything you need and the location was serene, beautiful as well as private. The creek made it even more special. We hope to be back again soon.
Liz is a great help in planning your trip to the area, providing friendly advice on what to visit. The location of Moo Bay Muse is great for exploring, and feeling part of, the stunningly beautiful Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation area. The house is basic in construction but pleasingly quirky in style and well equipped. There is a gas hob, hot water, and a fridge running on solar electricity, so it's really only power-hungry appliances that you don't have the use of. You'll certainly experience life in the rainforest - be prepared for geckos, tree frogs and insects sharing your rooms, and drive carefully to avoid and appreciate the many wild animals that cross your path. The noise of the forest is captivating at dawn and dusk. We were considered a great delicacy by the local mosquitoes (to be fair, it was apparently a particularly bad year for them), so recommend packing a decent repellant and insect spray, making use of the mozzie coils and nets provided, and lighting a fire in the fire pit outside; if you're going to venture down to the creek, take a smouldering branch with you. While you're staying at Moo Bay Muse, we suggest a Daintree River trip with Dan Irby, a kayak trip to Snapper Island with Pete at Paddletrek, and sampling the wattle seed ice cream at the Daintree Ice Cream Company.
Spent a wonderful 4 nights at the Muse. It is right in the forest and the bird song and insect noises are amazing. The house is very well equipped and the photos are accurate. Lee, the manager was very helpful and gave us some great tips for activities in the area. We loved the fire in the evening and made good use of the barbecue. Although it is solar powered, this was no disadvantage in any way. This is truly a unique property. We loved everything about our stay, except the mossies!
Amazing place to stay and totally unwind.
Lee made us very welcome on our arrival and gave us great information on the area.
The perfect place to stay if you are looking for a totally natural environment away from every day life.
Thank you for letting us stay in your awesome home :)
Muse at Moo Bay is just a gem of a place...set in the middle of the Daintree forest with all the beauty, peace and quiet that goes with that.
The beautifully designed Eco friendly house brings the outdoors inside, but in a controlled way...doors and windows can be closed if you like but we found it much better to leave everything open to allow the breeze through. Mozzies weren't really an issue, especially if we used the bed mozzie nets.
The design of the house, all of the fittings, the landscaping all beautifully done...
Cow Bay beach is an easy 1 km walk away and is definitely worth the trip.
We cooked over the fire pit most nights - prawns on the grill, barra in foil...beautiful way to cook.
Thanks Liz for sharing your place with us (and to Lee for meeting us on arrival and explaining everything). See you again!
Wow! The most amazing home in an incredible area. We loved our stay at the muse. A comfortable, relaxing home with many different things to do if you want to stay in and tonnes to do in the surrounding area. We loved walking the private creek (where we disturbed a Cassowary cooling off), cooking in the fire and just relaxing out the front in the sun. Thanks for having us Liz and hopefully we will make it back up.
Thank you Liz for having us at this delightful property, we felt extremely relaxed! On arrival we were pleasantly suprised as the property looked so much better than the photo's on the net, Lee the caretaker met us and showed us around the property, explaining everything that we needed to know about how the property worked. All basic staples were catered for (another pleasant supriise) right down to glad wrap and shamppo! What a place! We loved our time at the Muse and the CD collection provided the perfect ambiance for a chilled few days away from work. The beach was amazing, the swimming holes near by were gorgeous and the tranquility to die for. We will be back and I am sure that anyone who stays at the Muse will love it just as much! Thanks Liz see you soon.
P.S make sure you cook over the firepit, excellent tucker.

About the Host, Liz
Three years ago my husband, Chris, and I had a chance to buy our honeymoon cottage in the rainforest - Moo Bay Muse. At the time I was 6 months pregnant and we wanted to give a precious gift to our newborn son Oliver so that he could grow up surrounded by nature, away from big city life. While he's still tiny and we are living in Bondi we'd like others to have the chance to enjoy this very special house and part of the Daintree. It's the perfect escape from busy life just to chill out, unwind and relax and the sounds that surround the cottage are just amazing. We both fell in love with it from our first stay and I hope you will too. The things I love most about Moo Bay Muse is the outdoor shower overlooking the forest, the butterflies dancing in the garden, the creek to cool off in and the wide variety of birdsong throughout the day.
Recently, in Aug 2014, we were lucky enough to welcome our second son, Benjamin, into the world. At the same time a wonderful homestead at Cape Tribulation in the Daintree became available on an exotic fruit farm which we thought would make the perfect complement to Moo Bay Muse. The farm, now named 'Wildwood' is set on 15 acres of rainforest, half of which is uncleared virgin rainforest and World Heritage listed.
Wildwood offers guests a choice of accommodation to stay in to suit 2 -14 guests. Available on the property is a 2 bedroom house, an adjoining granny flat, and two raised log cabins all set among a wide range of exotic fruit trees, including 21 mangosteen trees, miracle fruit, jack fruit, starfruit and jaboticaba trees.
From Dec 2014 we will be offering guests the chance to stay at Wildwood, for groups of 2-14 people.
If you have any questions about our cottages and cabins, the amenities provided or the Daintree just drop me a line and I'd be happy to help
You can find out what other guests thought of the Muse on Trip Advisor where we have a 5* Excellent guest rating across 30 reviews and a certificate of Excellence for (phone number hidden) and 2013.
Have a great day, smiles and butterflies
Liz, Chris, Oliver and new arrival Benjamin
