Lovely home in beautiful surrounds, it was a pleasure to stay in Peta's home for a few nights. Highly recommended for a place to stay in Ocean Shores.
We would highly recommend Plantation Cottage to anyone looking for a charming home away from home. Peta's created a perfect stylish coastal hideaway.
We had a really great stay at the Plantation Cottage - it's a gorgeous light space, filled with an eclectic mix of fabulous furniture, art pieces, a great library of books and magazines. Peta was really great at communicating and always got back to us quickly.
Our only complaint was that we found the bed in the main room a bit hard.
Everything else was great - we didn't get to use the pool, but the setting out there is gorgeous too, as is the beautiful tropical garden.
We'd all definitely recommend this as a great place to stay. It's in a fabulous spot too, right near Brunswick Heads, which we love and only 15 minutes drive to Byron, so you've got access to some hustle and bustle and then can come back to the lovely retreat of the cottage.
Thanks again for having us Peta - hope to visit again :)
We had excellent contact with Peta our host prior and during our stay. She have helpful hints of things to do in the area, and made sure we had everything we needed at all times.
Plantation Cottage was AMAZING! We were a little thrown when driving through a suburban estate, but as soon as we stepped in the door we knew we had made the right choice. The relaxed feel washed over us with every turn. The beautifully decorated spaces, fabulous wooden furniture, tropical sunroom kitted out with day beds and couches, a sun deck with BBQ and bedrooms which felt they were a part of an indian hideaway. Basically the house was stunning and set up to feel like a retreat. Our own oasis was topped off by the huge pool. This totally private lush green delight was another gem which made us feel like king and queen of our own private resort. We will be back, as our experience was well beyond our expectations.
You would need a car as we had when staying here. Ocean Shores itself is more of a residential area, but has a great cafe by the river. It is a short drive to Brunswick Heads where we enjoyed some meals out and a sunset river cruise. Byron, Minyon Falls, Tweed Heads Gallery, Crystal Castle are all easy drives away.
Enjoy! We know you will!
I stayed at Peta's house with my mum, brother and his girlfriend. Everybody loved the house. Peta's house was perfect for a summer holiday in that it was beautiful and inspiring (full of her own artwork, interesting and beautiful books, lovely magazines). The beds were lovely and comfortable with boutique hotel quality linen etc. The house was fantastically equipped with everything you could possibly need: extra rugs, dog beds and bowls, beach towels, tea, coffee, salt, olive oil, insect repellent, organic body wash. The kitchen has absolutely everything for cooking and entertaining. A 2 minute drive is a beautiful beach and dogs are allowed, which ours absolutely loved. We loved the local YumYum Tree Cafe for breakfast..I also recommend the local pizza place for take away pizza..lovely! The house has a huge couch and a lovely day bed so if you need extra sleeping space for unfussy people, it's there. The swimming pool was lovely..it's hard to keep perfect (I see another person complained) as it is surrounded by beautiful trees and foliage..we loved it. We'll be booking Peta's house in the future for sure.
From the moment you walked in you felt comfortable and chilled. The ambience of the place complete with quirky artwork, scatter cushions and plenty of little places to chill solo if you wanted to. Both bedrooms were equally as good as each other so no arguments needed about who gets what room. The kitchen is stocked with utensils, crockery, cookware so we just came with our groceries and wine and never had to eat out.
The place is decorated thoughtfully without you ever feeling tense about not being able to put your feet up.
Peta was easy to communicate with and made the process of booking simple and easy. Her house is filled with lots of lovely thoughtful touches from pool toys and beach towels to board games and music. However, whilst Peta has created a beautiful space the photos do not capture the neglect evident throughout the house with regard to cleanliness and wear and tear.
Despite the fact that the place had supposedly been cleaned prior to our arrival, filthy kitchens bins, which stank and had not been emptied and a pool in need of a clean greeted us. Attempts to raise these issues were dismissed by Peta who claimed that the pool had recently been cleaned and that she had not noticed the bins when at the property earlier that day. Whilst we accept that there are different standards of cleanliness, we did not appreciate having to clean items that were covered in food from previous occupants or too dirty to use. This included finding corn chips all over the floor and couch in the sunroom and a coffee grinder so filthy that it had to be soaked and cleaned before it could be used. Most of the kitchen appliances, including the toaster, had obviously not been cleaned recently with foodstuff evident either in or around them or alternatively covered in grease.
The lack of window coverings, some of which are broken or filthy, make VERY EARLY mornings inevitable for families with small children.
Overall, this is a lovely house that would benefit from a thorough clean and some TLC. However, if you are looking for a relaxing break that includes a break from cleaning and housework, this may not be the property for you.
Wow...I am really shocked at that response. I personally do the cleaning with another lady so there are 2 people cleaning for 4 hours. I believe my standards are high as I manage 3 other holiday properties, and strive to give our guests a really lovely space to stay in.
I had the pool cleaned by professional pool cleaners, and do each time a guest comes to stay.
I take on board there needs to be a blind in one of the bedrooms,at present there is a bamboo blind there so I shall replace it.
