This is the second time we stayed on Dan's yacht and it was as wonderful as before! The only difference was colder weather (Not Dan's fault of course) so we spent more time inside in the evenings and got to use the heater. We did use the barbecue on the boat one evening and had superb steaks very easily.
As Dan wanted to sail on the glorious sunny day we left, we got the extra bonus of watching the boat sail out into the lake, as we chilled out with a frozen yogurt in the Harbor cafe!
Super hot showers in the Washroom next door to the boat, free internet (which works really well in the Cafe, for those morning emails!) Clothes washing and dryer, are all great facilities of the Harbor.
We had one friend drive down from NY state and park his car for free all week in Chicago with Dan's pass and found that if we walked up to the Shedd Aquarium (around 1/3 - 1/2 mile) we could always get a cab in the morning! All was perfect and we do intend to be back next year - It beats a Hotel hands down!
Thanks again Dan - Roger
Beautiful boat in an excellent location - only 15 minutes walk from the McCormack conference centre and very convenient. The owners were very welcoming and helpful - even going out of their way to give me a tour of the best places to eat and shop that were within walking distance. I'd defintely have this as my preferred place to stay for next year's ASCO conference, or a holiday in Chicago.
What a GREAT way to experience Chicago. We booked the sailboat on a whim as we were having trouble finding reasonably priced hotels and our sense of adventure led us down to the water.
The boat is wonderful. I highly recommend it for anyone who likes adventures, is somewhat familiar with RVs, and doesn't need a big, spacious hotel room to have a good time (it is small and not very roomy, but come on it's a boat...). The beds were surprisingly comfortable and we slept great. One of the three nights during our stay we had a little movement on the boat, but it was nice to have the reminder that we weren't on land. Otherwise, it was a very peaceful stay.
Bathroom facilities were great - there was the option to use the bathrooms on the boat, or at a harbor facility 1 minute walk away for a little extra space and unlimited hot water. The boat bathroom is fun, but having options is always nice!
The hosts were unbelievably communicative and helpful. I had replies within two minutes of my initial inquiry and every other subsequent communication. I really can't say much other than the hosts are great people and were wonderful to chat with.
We spent a lot of time sitting on the boat enjoying the view of downtown. It was a magical trip! I will be back next trip to Chicago!
We loved staying on the yacht, it is a great spot and Daniel (represented in our case by Sarah and Adam) were very helpful, for example the kids wanted to fish and Adam returned with a rod and bait. Didn't catch anything however. Adam showed us the ropes, cookers, heaters and heads (bit of a novelty) and made sure we were properly settled in.
We would stay again but would recommend this only if the weather was warm and guests could make full use of the deck area. In our case the temperature had dropped sharply (nearly snow) and outdoors was off the agenda.
We note the weather is beyond the control of the hosts and we think that Daniel is a great member of the AirBnB community.
It was great fun and an inexpensive place to stay within a short walk of Soldier Field, The Museums, Sheds, and McCormick Center. As is the case with anywhere near downtown, parking can get tricky. But there are some options.
A beauty of a boat. Also Daniel's dock neighbors were quite kind and helpful. Really nice showers / private lavatories in the dock area. Which also has laundry facilities. We will do it again sometime.
Parking for guests is anything but tricky. we supply at no charge a parking pass so guests can park right next to dock at no charge. Denis arrived by cab and never indicated he would have a car so we did not supply the pass. He only mentioned some people might visit. we do not supply parking for visitors but there are pay lots available.
Our stay on the boat was fantastic. We have a new appreciation for Chicago as a result of our visit. Sitting on the boat with a view of the downtown was amazing. We will never stay in a hotel again in Chicago. The lakefront yacht is the only way to go.
My girlfriend June and I stayed on the boat for Lollapalooza weekend. Dan was very welcoming and helpful. The boat was beautiful, clean, and in a perfect location. We had such an incredible time. I would absolutely recommend staying here. Don't miss out on an amazing and unique way to experience Chicago.
Staying on a boat was really an experience. First of all, location is great, steps away of the Shed Aquarium, Soldier Field and Bus to downtown (146). Next store is about half a mile away, but simply hop off the Bus at Roosevelt and take the next one for food aso. Showers are just a few steps away and clean. We were prepared that a ship is not a hotel, but for us 4, there was a little bit to less place on it. Fortunately, we had good weather so we could stay on top of the boat all of the time. Daniel answered very quick and showed us all of the stuff and the boat was clean.
Everything about this experience was wonderful - booking was easy, and Daniel kept in touch and worked with our arrival schedule to be able to meet us at our cab and show us the way to the boat. He and his wife explained everything well -- there are a lot of little tricks and twists to working boat life! -- and provided everything from fresh linen and towels for bath and beach to a garden bouquet that brightened the cockpit. Was it a tight squeeze? Yes, but there was actually plenty of room for sleeping, enough room in the kitchen area to make a meal (pasta & salad) and to prepare breakfasts and a beach pic-nic. Having two full bathrooms was terrific, as were the boat house facilities (full bathrooms and laundry), which were located steps away. We loved watching fireworks from the boat. Easy access to museums, the 12th St. beach and downtown Chicago. We can't wait to return, and would love to have a sail next time.
Good location & secure.
We expected separate sleeping cabins but one was used as storage so the living area gad to double as a bed. Not too much of a problem as we spent most of the time on deck enjoying the sunshine.
