The easiest way to the house is by car service, which you can secure immediately as you depart the airport terminal.
Also, note, any guests who do not check out promptly by 11a will be charged a $20 late fee for every hour they are late. Unfortunately, we need to implement this now as many people are not honoring the check-out times and our time that we need to get the room and house ready for the next guests. We ask that everyone please be mindful of the check out times so we can be considerate of the next guests. We would be happy to hold luggage for you if your flight takes off later on in the day, but we absolutely need to have the room vacant by 11a. Thanks!
We really enjoyed our stay on Staten Island in Alissa's airbnb! The key was waiting for us when we arrived. She texted us with clear arrival instructions and was quick to respond when we had a question. It is a cozy basement apartment within a couple of blocks of New York City harbor. Taking the Staten Island ferry into the city in the morning and returning at night while enjoying a beautiful view of the NYC skyline and statue of liberty made our visit complete. We had no problem finding parking when we arrived, and after that we just walked and took the ferry. It looked like it could be difficult to find a parking spot at certain times of the night, but driving is not required unless you have difficulty walking uphill for a block or so. The ceilings are low, but that was no problem for us since we are all under 5'11". We loved the neighborhood and enjoyed eating at a local pub. If we ever return to New York, we would love to stay there again. Thank you, Alissa!
We arrived late around 21:30 due rain and airplane delay but easy to find with GPS. The door was opened and although made mistake with room and keys- self service..we got a two bedroom with private bathroom. The rooms and beds were clean and felt safe in the area with three kids. Its a good place and price to pick to have the chance to see (email hidden)anks for opening your house to us!
The listing description was accurate the Alissa was available over the phone whenever necessary. The apartment was in the basement of the house and it was absolutely wonderful. I found parking right in front of the house. The location of this place is really convenient if someone needs to go to Manhattan, it is as the title suggests, walk to the ferry and Manhattan in 20! Neighbourhood included schools and a church and NYPD building is not too far away making it pretty safe! I would recommend this place if one wants to travel to Manhattan without spending big and having no worries about driving in Manhattan.
This was my very first time living in a space listed on airbnb so I didn't know exactly what to expect, what comparable spaces are like etc. etc. etc.
It was very clean, and the bathroom facilities were good. The kitchen appliances work well so we were able to prepare a quick breakfast. There was a space heater, if needed. This a basement room with it's own entrance and was reasonably warm.
Alissa responded reasonably quickly to my messages, and we followed her instructions (example re: trash disposal and recycling disposal) carefully. I never met her but her communication was always warm and friendly.
You could hear folks (adults and kids?) walking/running upstairs in the morning; if that bothers you, this may not be the place for you because the sound really carries. We were fine with it.
As other reviewers mentioned, if you are tall, you will likely hit your head on the ceiling --- again, we didn't have a problem with this! :)
There is free street parking outside, and we were fine the first night but had a little trouble finding parking the second. We had to circle around a couple of times till we found a spot a 3-min walk away. But not a problem.
My only concern about the place are the sleeping arrangements: unfortunately, the main bed was lumpy and the air bed was barely inflated so we were all a little uncomfortable. We are partly to blame for the airbed issue for the second night, though! When I messaged Alissa about it the next morning, she immediately told us where the pump was located. By the time we got ready for bed the second night, after another long tiring day in the city, we couldn't figure out how to use the air pump! LOL and *facepalm*. So we used a couple of sleeping bags she had stored there, and were just fine. The main bed, though, wasn't too comfortable. :(.
Other than that, we were fine. It's a good, very clean, functional space.
My wife and I arrived late at night and Alissa left the key for us so that we could come and go as we please. We found a parking spot right outside and from then on we were able to walk to the ferry in about 20 minutes. It takes about 45-60 minutes to get from the apartment to get to Times Square, so just make sure you know the schedule when you leave and plan accordingly. The apartment was exactly what we needed, a place to sleep and rest after long days of walking. It was nice to have internet and have Netflix hooked up on a tv. If you are taller than 5'10" you might have some issues with the roof (I'm 6'3" and I bumped my head multiple times).
If you are planning on traveling with a large party, this apartment is perfect. Sleeps six people in the apartment, the main bed is a little lumpy and hard, but because we were so tired from traveling all day it was totally fine.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and would definitely look it up again to see if it was available if we return to NYC.
The apartment was clean and a great location. Alissa responded quickly to all of my questions, including the night before our arrival date and even the first night of our stay. It was just as described, a quick walk to the ferry- I don't even think it took us 20 minutes. The ferry ride itself was wonderful and provided a scenic and relaxing start and end to each day in NYC. It was a very private apartment with a separate entrance. It really felt like our own space. I would definitely stay here again.
