About This Listing
Our completely modernized farmhouse is situated on a mountain-top overlooking the beautiful wide valley of the Conca de Barberà in the northern limits of the province of Tarragona, where we offer you Self-Catering or B&B-style accomodation.
Located on the outskirts of a historical picturesque farming village, which itself is situated on a mountain-top overlooking the beautiful wide valley of the Conca de Barberà in the northern limits of the province of Tarragona, our large ancient stone farmhouse, completely renovated in rustic style, eco-friendly and most comfortable, holiday rent as a base to enjoy the Route of the Cister, with fantastic views, where we offer you B&B-style accomodation, more-or-less vegetarian and non-smoking, in a friendly and comfortable atmosphere.. We offer a good amplified Continental breakfast 5€ a head
The house is equipped with solar-heated hot water, which has electric back-up in case the sun doesn't shine in more than 2 days, which is extremely rare. There are either summer or winter duvets on all the beds. The windows are fitted with anti-fly screens, and there are virtually no mosquitos in the whole village. Each guest is provided with a hand and shower towel, which are checked before departure, as is the kitchen equipment. The flushes in the 3 separate WC's and the water taps are fitted with water-saving devices, and the central heating is a special low-consumption electric system. There is a big satellite dish, so in the visitor lounge, (shared by the 4 double bedrooms) the TV receiver gives all the Spanish channels and some French and British news channels
The great advantage of staying up in our village and not down in the humid sweltering heat of the coast in summer, is that although it may be as hot outside as the coast on a very sunny day, in the evening there is a delicious freshness, when one can open the windows and let the cool into the house, keeping them closed during the day, as the very thick s stone walls of the house keep a steady temperature of 23-23ºC in summer and with the heating on the rest of the year at a steady 18-20º.
So apart from a walk up to the top part of the village for the views and to visit the 1000-year-old Romanic church and wander round the old village, or taking a walk in the local countryside to visit the ancient spring or to pick aromatic plants, there many interesting visits to be made locally.
Our place is in the lower part of the village, which avoids being shrouded in clouds as is the top part when it's cloudy, but just as cool in summer, and is at more or less the same altitude as several local places that can be cycled to (we have 2 adult +1 child's bike we can hire you very cheaply) along the tracks improved by the windmill installers. The windmills provide great wondering for younger visitors, and although initially their presence scared off most of our local eagle population, recently we have been noticing the return of soaring great birds of prey in the skies over the Conca..
We are very lucky to have a few minutes drive away the brand-new 5-star thermal spring establishment of Rocallaura, extremely well-equipped and guaranteed to make you feel a new person in two hours. We have multi-ticket entries which reduce the price from 23 to 15€ all-in. We have also installed a foot-massage and steam sauna therapy cabin on the ground floor next to the yoga room; afterwards you feel 50 times better than taking a shower. Cost 3€ per half-hour session approx.
With the village strategically situated on the Route of the Cisters, and the public rambling route GR Saint James' Track passing in front of the house, giving easy access to the 3 famous historic monasteries, Santes Creus, historically fascinating, Vallbona de les Monges, quaint and still functionning, and Poblet, beautiful and much-appreciated. 50 km. away from Tarragona and its wonderful beaches. 115km from Barcelona.
There are two ways to have an interesting and pleasant stay with us: being accompanied, or under your own steam. So, unless you come in your own car, you will be met at the airport (Reus the nearest) and helped with accepting a hire car (best booked previously), and we will show you which routes to take. Or, being accompanied, when we will meet you at Reus airport with our 9-seater VW, and once lodged, we will take you to visit nice places in the afternoons. In the mornings you can take walks nearby or round the village, or stay and rest or study in the relaxing atmosphere of the house. We have (website hidden) internet.
In the lounge you will find a scrap-book, full of information on places to see and visit, a walk or a short car ride away.
In the ground floor bathroom, where the washing machine is, there is a steam sauna/shower cabin with music, lights and foot massage. Session 3€ half-hour aprox.
Interaction with Guests
Apart from welcoming you (with a cup of tea if you want), we are always on hand in our separate appartment to help you with whatever problem or to give you information on the best value restaurants in this gastronomically-well-known area, or nice places to visit, and how to get there.
This being a mountain-top village, there are unparallelled views over the wide valley of the Conca de Barberà right the way down to the sea 50kms away, and from behind the village we see the whole long chain of the Pyrenees, covered in snow except in summer.
Forès is one of the municipalities in the Medieval and Cistercian routes. The village has 66 inhabitants.
It is located on a fortified hilltop of 864 m., which dominates the fertile valley of the Conca de Barbera and looks out over the sea, the Pyrenees mountains, and the sacred mountain of Montserrat. From a geological and landscape view, is one of the most interesting places in the county.
At the top stands out the ornate octagonal tower of the Romanesque church of Sant Miquel, which is dedicated to the archangel praised as overcoming demons.
The church is a point of the Forés Ley line which starts on the coast near Terrassa (Barcelona) and reaches Lleida, where it connects with the great way that marks the Ley line of the Camino de Santiago from Catalonia to Compostela (Campus Stellae),the line that follows through Zaragoza (Caesar Augusta) to Logroño, where it connects with the French path that passes through Roncesvalles and Estella (Navarra).
This aligns Forés with all churches which are consecrated to the Archangel San Miguel, a straight line following the axis of the nave of the church. At 90º exactly from this Line, following the direction of the transept of the church, about five kilometers away is to be found on a hill 750 m high the hermitage of Sant Pere de SAVELLA (S. Pedro), part of another alignment consecrated to San Pedro, or Sant Roc churches, note that both mean "rock" (petrus).
It is within the telluric alignments, power center where many Ley Lines concur, similar to Montserrat.
North of Forés is the Spring of Light whose water is reputed as miraculous.
A short walk away in the middle of a vineyard is a field of Iberian urns (burial); all the graves are oriented exactly in the same direction as the Ley line and aligned with the source and Forés church.
The hermitage of Sant Pere de Savella, chapel of a single nave, one of the oldest in Catalonia, where there is also a small Romanesque cemetery in the XII century floor, and also the ruins of the castle of Savella and an Iberian fort.
The Ley follows the line dedicated to Sant Pere (St. Peter) churches, coincides as well with the spring, which also has a reputation as healing water, located in the naturist village of El FONOLL, where there is also another chapel. El Fonoll is situated 3 km behind Forès, at the other end of the valley whose watershed behind Forès stands as the divide between waters flowing straight down to the Mediterranean via the River Gaia, or flowing north-west towards the Ebro.
If you come in your own car, or hire a car (best booked previously), even at the airport (Reus the nearest) and we will show you which routes to take. Alternatively, we can meet you at Reus airport with our 9-seater VW, and once lodged, we can take you to visit nice places in the afternoons. (from 1pm onwards; 15€ p.p.p day, minimum 3 people) In the mornings you can take walks nearby or round the village, or stay and rest or study in the relaxing atmosphere of the recently and tastefully renovated house.

Y si tenéis cualquier duda, ¡preguntad a Philip! Os indicará el camino más corto para llegar a los sitios y los sitios más interesantes.
Philip was very communicative with us before and during our stay giving us good information about best routes to local sites and good restaurants. He was available if there was any needs for the apartment and tried to fix problems.
The village is very sleepy and it is short lovely walk from the apartment to the top of the village where you are treated to spectacular views.
The space is a renovated granary and stylishly furnished.
The apartment is suitable for a smaller group than six people. The table could not accommodate all of us to eat together.
There was the inconvenience of no internet as it is advertised in the amenities and there was a problem with the bathroom shower not draining properly.
I wish people who have a little problem like not fitting at the table would mention it, as very easily the table extends perfectly to oval shape to take 8. As Dion had such a good understanding of engineering I presumed he wouldn't need me to see the split-open table.
There is a little hitch with the shower, as the people there before kept coming back from the beach covered in sand and showering it off in my shower and so have partially blocked the pipe. I'm working on it putting down buckets of boiling water to dislodge it. I have installed a super new shower cabin in the downstairs part of the house, and if they had told me they weren't managing with the upstairs shower, they could have used the downstairs shower for free.
The Telefonica company announce last year it had bulit a new antena to give good mobile internet, but more lies typical of Telefonica Movistar. So by next year I will have a sateliite antena installed to give decent wi-fi (website hidden) any case,

About the Host, Philip
Casi-Vegetariano. No fumador. Comunicativo pero me gusta el silencio para oir la naturaleza. I'm English but have lived in Catalunya for more than 30 years. As I explain on (website hidden) you can either hire a car and I'll explain where to go in thius beautiful area, or alternatively if we agree, and if I'm free, which is likely, it would be my pleasure to take you in my nice car to show you around this beautiful area rich in history and sites. Which will cost 15 € each from 1pm onwards, to pay my food and costs. In the mornings, there are nice walks round the village or there are 2 bicycles in the house Previous to 1pm, you won't get a peep out of me: I'll be in my part of the house doing my yoga, meditation, etc.
