Bob and Sue could not have been any nicer and their main house as well as the cottage apartment match their warm and hospitable personalities. Attention to little details like welcome snacks, a bottle of champagne and candles was so appreciated. Meticulously clean and a very comfy bed! We hope to come back here soon.
Our stay in Sue & Bob's English cottage was a great introduction to Portland. Located in the beautiful Laurelhurst neighborhood, it was peaceful yet close to many restaurants and parks. Although Sue & Bob weren't in town, they were extremely communicative and made sure we had everything we needed. After a very long day of travel, I arrived late at night only to find a bowl of snacks/fruit and a bottle of wine waiting for us! I was moving to Portland and stressed from the move, so these little details made all the difference. Also, the weather was amazing during our stay and the 2 available bikes were perfect for a quick ride downtown. Also, there was a bus stop only 5 min walk which was really convenient. Even after our stay, Sue was really helpful in providing recommendations for our road trip to the coast. Fantastic host and wonderful experience. Definitely recommend.
We absolutely loved our stay at Sue and Bob's Quaint English Cottage in Portland. Sue and Bob are the most fantastic hosts! Two of the kindest people you'll ever meet who go out of their way to make sure you feel at home and comfortable. The cottage is gorgeous! We loved our stay and wish we could have stayed longer. The bed is super comfy, the kitchen is beautifully decorated and has everything you need (and more - even a blender!) to cook a full meal and the bathroom is impeccable - great shower with solid, hot water and a bath for relaxing. We also loved the garden surrounding Sue and Bob's beautiful property - it looks and smells wonderful! Sue and Bob are two very special people who really know how to host guests. Thank you so much for everything, both of you, you made our first few days in Portland very memorable! An absolutely top notch, brilliant experience!
Bob and Sue were great hosts and gave us lots of tips on what areas of the city to see and things to do. Even before we arrived, they were easy to get in touch with any questions we had. The Cottage was in an amazing location. We could walk to Laurelhurst Park in a few minutes and there are more than enough restaurants and coffee shop options around. We recommend it and will visit again ourselves.
Sue was out of town when we arrived in Portland, but Bob was extremely helpful and welcoming. The house was absolutely beautiful and had everything we'd need over a three day stay. The W/D was especially helpful as we'd been on the road a few days. Nothing but good things to say about the home and Bob and it comes highly recommended.
We had a lovely stay. The description of the "Quaint English Cottage Apt" was perfect and the apt lived up to our expectations. It is delightfully furnished in period appliances from the fifties with dishes and furnishings to match. At Sue and Bob suggestion we tired the neighborhood and local park, and my wife and both agreed that pleasant stroll with the diverse architecture was a highlight of our stay. The cottage is very convienently
located for both downtown excursions and exploring the east side of Portland. The bed was super comfy! Our visit was in January so we missed the lovely garden area in its full glory, but even so it felt so English!
We plan on returning in the early summer so that we can enjoy sitting in the garden in the evening.
Bob and Sue were very welcoming and made us feel at home. The apartment was charming and very comfortable. The setup afforded us a great deal of privacy but also allowing us to interact with our hosts.
The neighborhood is very beautiful with great walking and things to explore. It is also very well served by bus lines which allowed easy access to downtown Portland. Closer by are several good restaurants, movie theaters, and shopping.
We live in a historic home in Laurelhurst, in Portland. Sue is a retired principal and Bob retired from the big aerospace company in Seattle (Boeing). Sue has a passion for decorating and gardening (is very creative and good at both), Bob is into art and also enjoys and appreciates creating and living in a tasteful environment. We both enjoy entertaining, hosting frequent social gatherings in our home in our English garden or just having friends over for a "glass" of wine. We also have a house on the Oregon Coast that we love and enjoy sharing with family and friends and that is also available for short term rental. We stay constantly busy with our "projects" spending time with the grandchildren, try to fit some time in for a little golf and getting away for a few days from time to time. Now that we have joined "airbnb" we might just find an excuse to getaway a little more.
As hosts we would be happy to invite our guests for a tour of our historic home, sit with us and enjoy a glass of wine in front of the inglenook fireplace or on the patio in the garden. If our guests prefer to left alone we are sensitive to that as well. Our goal is to provide a welcoming, comfortable, and tasteful environment for our guests, and possibly develop new friendships.
As guests we appreciate friendly, but sensitive to our privacy, hosts that provides a clean, comfortable environment that makes us feel at home. We also appreciate hosts that provide recommendations and insight into places to visit and things to do.
As to a life motto we both think that, Live, Love, Laugh and Learn is how we approach life.
