As the south-facing half of a side-by-side Asia Town duplex, each of the eight rooms and even the hallway of this home enjoy natural lighting. Renovated by architects, new furnishings create cozy gathering spaces within the historic charm of this century residence. All spaces have fresh paint and the upstairs has new wood floors, creating a clean and relaxing setting. Shade and fruit trees, vegetable and herb gardens, and seasonal flowers fill the shared and fenced backyard from spring to fall.
The space
The first floor features original, cognac-stained wood floors with most rooms having operable windows along the south, where the adjacent open lot allows plenty of light in for our many house plants. All windows have wood blinds.
The kitchen is stocked with 12 sets of dishes and glassware, including a few serving pieces for a charcuterie or cheese board. Have coffee your way (drip or French press) with a milk frother and electric kettle.
The light neutrals of the upstairs provide a bright and warm setting with new wood flooring throughout, new beds, and a minimalist hanging dresser in each closet.
Guest access
Up to two vehicles can fit on the parking pad at the front of the house. Ample street parking is also available. Local restaurants are a short walk away and downtown Cleveland landmarks are easily reached in minutes by car, public transport, or scooters.
Other things to note
This old house. . . has a clawfoot tub for the shower, so the head is a bit lower with controls at the tub and the footprint is a bit smaller than in new homes.
With the tracks a block away, occasionally trains rumble past on the bridges.
The single bathroom is located upstairs.

Both architects, we've been travel partners since 2014, and then husband and wife since 2020. We purchased our first home five months later (to the day!) and celebrated that anniversary with the opening of our first short-term rental after fitting in renovations between the architect-ing. We are excited to bring the little pleasures we've experienced in various places to our guests. We look forward to adding even more amenities to this property.
Sarah: From the experience of a sweat lodge on the Turtle Mountain Reservation in North Dakota to 2+ years living in Cape Verde and various other trips or internships across 5 continents, I've benefitted from wonderful encounters of hospitality that have been humbling, joyful, and inspiring. Hostels, eco-tourism accommodations, and homestays have often left me imagining my own place to host others. I might have envisioned the surrounds to be closer to the equator, but (for now at least), our location in Cleveland has much to offer.
