Kaye's place is a safe, luxurious haven in the comfortable suburb of Karen. It was an ideal place to be based for our first few days in Kenya.
She helped us arrange airport pickup with a driver, and gave helpful recommendations on things to do and restaurants to eat at. We enjoyed waking up and lounging in the sun in her beautiful gardens, which are the nicest in Karen!
Even though Kaye wasn't around, she was incredibly responsive and helpful the entire time and gave us tips on what to see and even connected us with some friends in Tanzania.
The house is enormous and lovingly furnished. We loved the kindness and friendliness of the staff and enjoyed chatting with them and playing with the dogs every day. The entire compound is very secure and we felt very safe the entire time.
Highlights of Nairobi-
-Kaye's house is only a short drive from the giraffe center and David Sheldrick elephant orphanage, which we recommend doing.
-We also took a tour of Kibera slum found on Vayable that was led by a local that was a valuable glimpse into the way of life of so many people and felt inspired by the amazing community projects happening.
-Relaxing in the garden playing with the dogs
-Dinner in the tropical gardens of Tamarind restaurant
My wonderful home away from home! Thank you Kaye and Arnie and your wonderful staff and dogs, I luxuriated in the splendor of your gorgeous abode for 3 glorious months!
I stayed for two months at Kaye's place where I found my haven and happiness amidst a bucolic English garden, four beautiful dogs, caring and helpful staff and a tranquility that allowed me to work, study, relax, cook and socialize. The house is gorgeous with tasteful details and a serene location. I walked to work on Langata road, stopping off on the way home for a mango smoothie at Art Caffee and picking up a fresh pineapple at a stand near the house. On Saturdays Id walk to Karen Professional Center for a massage and shampoo, followed by some sushi at Haru's or a cappaccino or ginger tea at Karen Connection. All in all, Kaye's place was my home in Kenya, and Kaye and Arnie made it magical.
A wonderful stay at Kaye's place. The place is clean, spacious and beautiful. Kaye is very friendly and provided me with tips of getting around and even lent me a phone for communications. Overall, great experience!
A wonderful stay in a beautiful home in Karen, Nairobi. We were overwhelmed by Kaye's hospitality and were sad to say goodbye. Karen is a beautiful area and Kaye's home is a good base. The host was congenial and helpful in every respect, and our stay came complete with a farewell breakfast cooked by the host for a small cost. Be sure to ask Kaye for restaurant tips because her options are well worth it.
The location is great, in a nice, quiet part of Karen and only 10 min drive from the shops. The studio is big and private and Kaye was really welcoming and nice and ensured we enjoyed our stay fully!
I had no idea what to expect when arriving in Nairobi, but the brief week that we got to spend in this beautiful city was amazing undoubtedly due to Kaye (and her family's) hospitality and helpfulness.
Even though she was on travel when we arrived, her sister Grace was accessible at any time and made us feel right at home. Kaye was responsive from the moment we first reached out to her on Airbnb and ensured we had a little tub for our toddler, a clean, beautiful room, water (and coffee!) upon arrival. The only problem I can think of is that the beds were too comfortable, making it a little difficult to get up out of bed to go explore and enjoy the new city.
The house itself is beautifully designed and decorated and the house staff was very polite and helpful at all times (thank you Joseph and Henry!) Having the four dogs made you feel extra safe as they quickly bonded with us and kept us company out in the garden (which is very relaxing and peaceful). Their home is in a perfect location for going out and about in Karen (and Nairobi in general). Very close (keeping in mind the local traffic) to the giraffe manor, karen blix, tamarind, junction, galleria, several shops and restaurants, mamba village, anything you could possibly want.
One last note, I'm typing this review on my (unfortunately) new iPhone screen after dropping it the day before we left. Kaye stopped what she was doing the minute I showed it to her, contacted a local repair shop and I had a repaired/like new phone within 4 hours. I can't thank her enough for the resourcefulness, hospitality and sharing her beautiful home.
Highly recommend staying here is you are heading to Kenya.
thank you so much for your kind words…and the beautiful card you left behind for us! It was so delightful to have you, Alya and Amine.. you made my home lively with your laughter and happy sounds from the baby.
I hope you shall be happy when you finally come to settle in Nairobi in the near future….
