Hello, I was really sorry to read your review today. I believe communication is number one ingredient for a good stay, you could have enjoyed your stay in the apartment more, or made a better choice for your needs.
The washing machine was repaired and worked perfectly even already during your stay, may be you haven’t turned it on correctly.
In every description of my apartments is mentioned that early-check in or check-out are for extra fee, if guests want to make check-in the day before their arrival time, they need to pay for the extra day they live in the apartment. I think it is common rule for all owners and host all over the world. By the way I also made early check-out for you at 4-30 AM without any extra fee.
Taking the passport of one guest (or taking the copy of the passport or drivers documents) is the usual rule mostly of all Ukrainian hosts. It is explained by realities of our Ukrainian life and experience of owners of the apartments. First of all it is necessary from considerations of safety of the apartment and all furniture and valuable things which are inside of it. Sometimes security deposit helps to save property and to compensate losses, but not always.
For example, during this winter some guests that lived in one of my apartments damaged it (my review about their stay is possible to read in my reviews below), they crashed the glass in a balcony door, broke a double bed, burnt expensive mattress and sheets, clogged up the wash basin, WC, dishwasher, left dirty spots on walls…And all this damage I saw only at the last day of their stay, when came to make the check-out for them. But I did not find guests in an apartment! They escaped with the keys (!!!) some hours before the check-out time, because they didn’t want to explain what had happened in the apartment and why it was so brutally damaged. To replace a glass window, to change the door lock, to repair everything, to make the general cleaning up and to paint the walls I had to spent more than 500 dollars ! Well, the security deposit which Airbnb returned to me was 100 USD. It was enough only to buy a new door lock to make the apartment safe, all other losses I had to recover from my pocket. And unfortunately it was a not the first case of damaging the flats. Logically in such situations security deposit must compensate to the owner all his loss and damage of his property. But I can not ask for a big security deposit (more than 400 dollars) when the cost of apartment is very cheap (less than 60 dollars per day), as it was in your case, Walter. Nobody will book such cheap apartment with such big deposit. Therefore sometimes I take a passport for a guest or make the copy of passport. And I never take the passport of foreign guests, in your case I took the passport of one of guests, citizen of Ukraine from the Luhansk city.
I am an owner of 5 apartments in Lviv city center, for other apartments (not 22, there are much more of them in my profile) I work as a broker for years, I communicate with guests, make check-in and check-out for them, make cleaning, take care of the apartments and try to do all my best to make the stay of my guests comfortable and unforgettable.
