I had a summer sublet from hell so I'm a little gun shy about this rental season, but here goes. Please, please watch the video and read the following before you inquire about booking.
The house is in an urban neighborhood; I have added pictures of the street to give you an idea. If you want to stay at the Ritz or in a gated community, please do so. This is New Orleans and it is still in the process of being re-built. We have never had any safety issues on my street, but this is a city and like any city there is traffic, graffiti and homelessness in the area. If you are not ok with seeing any of those things, then please look for a hotel.
My house is a project house. My boyfriend and I are fixing it up as we can but it's no where near being perfect. The wood floors need to be refinished, the paint is not great, the kitchen and bathroom need new flooring, doors need replacing, and bathroom is a hot mess of spray insulation. My intention is not to be abrupt. I love my house. It has charm and it is an authentic New Orleans experience. I just don't want anyone to think this is a luxury rental, it's not even close. That being said, everything works -- you can cook, relax, watch tv and sit in the overgrown backyard until your heart's content when you're not out exploring.
Thanks for reading. Wherever you stay I hope you have a wonderful time in the Big Easy.
Whole apartment-- full kitchen, bedding, towels, basic cable tv, wi-fi, iron, blow dryer, fenced in backyard, and on-street parking.
We love our neighborhood and the vibe. It may come off as a little sketchy and uneasy but the locals are friendly and inviting. You can walk or bike to just about anywhere - coffee shops, bars, pubs, clubs, movie and drama threater, yoga studios, spa, Co-Op, live jazz venues, restaurants, parks, cleaners, mini food marts.
Getting around is easy on foot or bike within the vicinity, or take a very short cab ride...5 minutes into the French Quarter. If you drive your own vehicle, parking can be tricky in and around the French Quarter...read the street signs.
If you want to venture out to other parts of New Orleans, and prefer public transportation use the RTA bus and street car line. You can go on the RTA website and actually type in where you want to go...and it'll list and map out your route with times.
Flying into town - the easiest way to and from the airport is taking a taxi ($33.00 rate for 2 people), about a 20 minute commute.
Other Things to Note
Inquire about the monthly summer rental rates. Pets welcome with a small fee.
- Smoke free property...please smoke outside.
- Be respectful of our neighbors - they are really great and we like them a lot!
- Common courtesy is very appreciated.
Great experience. Everything was exactly as described. Heidi was extremely responsive and the location was great!
This place was great for a weekend in New Orleans. It was about a 10-15 minute walk to the heart of the French Quarter. We felt the apartment was bigger than it looked in the pictures too. I read a couple reviews saying they felt it was in an unsafe area. I don't agree with that at all. We walked home every night comfortably. If nothing else you can take a 3-minute cab ride. A+
Heidi's place was perfect for our trip! It was charming, spacious, close to everything we wanted to be near (Frenchmen St, parts of the French Quarter) and far enough away from the things we didn't (Bourbon St). The street was quiet, parking was easy, and the neighbors were great. The gas heater worked well to keep us warm on one of the cooler nights. We would definitely stay here again.
We loved our (email hidden), although I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a 4/5 star accomdation experience, as there are a few things that need fixing in the house, but this is reflected in the price. However beds were comfortable and a good amount of utensils in the kitchen. Marais st is in an excellent location, about 20 minutes walk to the French quarter. Host let us check in early, which was great.
Comfortable shotgun house in a great location - Frenchmen St. is two blocks away and the FQ is a 10 min walk. Home is definitely a work-in-progress but has the basic amenities needed for a short stay. Neighborhood might seem a bit worn down but neighbors were friendly and we never felt unsafe.
Heidi's home is in great condition and we found it really comfortable! The neighborhood is rough around the edges (which she outlines in her description), and every single cab driver (and our friends in NOLA) all told us not to walk alone at night and to be especially careful. We didn't have any issues though, but took cabs in the evenings to be on the safe side.
It's easy access to the French Quarter and there are some good eateries and bars nearby (apparently we missed Beyonce the night she (email hidden) right around the corner!)

I'm a happy single woman in my mid 30s. I spent my 20s overseas (Europe, Asia, Australia) so I know how hard that travel bug can hit and how great it is to find a nice/cheap place to stay. I'm in the middle of starting my own business but still have a day job in mental health (with the corresponding sense of humor). I'm laid back but no drugs please. But beer and wine? Oh yeah.
I'm happy to show you the sites on my days off. I love people and am super friendly, but not looking to make a love connection here.
Anything else? Just ask.
