I had a summer sublet from hell so I'm a little gun shy about this rental season, but here goes. Please, please watch the video and read the following before you inquire about booking.
The house is in an urban neighborhood; I have added pictures of the street to give you an idea. If you want to stay at the Ritz or in a gated community, please do so. This is New Orleans and it is still in the process of being re-built. We have never had any safety issues on my street, but this is a city and like any city there is traffic, graffiti and homelessness in the area. If you are not ok with seeing any of those things, then please look for a hotel.
My house is a project house. My boyfriend and I are fixing it up as we can but it's no where near being perfect. The wood floors need to be refinished, the paint is not great, the kitchen and bathroom need new flooring, doors need replacing, and bathroom is a hot mess of spray insulation. My intention is not to be abrupt. I love my house. It has charm and it is an authentic New Orleans experience. I just don't want anyone to think this is a luxury rental, it's not even close. That being said, everything works -- you can cook, relax, watch tv and sit in the overgrown backyard until your heart's content when you're not out exploring.
Thanks for reading. Wherever you stay I hope you have a wonderful time in the Big Easy.
Whole apartment-- full kitchen, bedding, towels, basic cable tv, wi-fi, iron, blow dryer, fenced in backyard, and on-street parking.
We love our neighborhood and the vibe. It may come off as a little sketchy and uneasy but the locals are friendly and inviting. You can walk or bike to just about anywhere - coffee shops, bars, pubs, clubs, movie and drama threater, yoga studios, spa, Co-Op, live music venues, restaurants, parks, cleaners, mini food marts.
Getting around is easy on foot or bike within the vicinity, or take a 5 minute taxi to the French Quarter. RTA is the public transit line.
Other Things to Note
Pets are welcome with small fee.
- Smoke free property...please smoke outside.
- Be respectful of neighbors - we like them a lot!
- Common courtesy is appreciated: take care of our home.
Perfect location! It was only a 15 minute walk to the French Quarter. Couldn't have asked for a better stay.
We found the accommodations comfortable and spacious, and the descriptions of the property was accurate. The location is great, walking and biking distance to all parts of the city. Additionally it is centrally located near major street arteries for easy access to other parts of town. There is no outside area, front or back to sit/relax, which would have been nice.
We never met or had any contact with Heidi during our stay, only an initial email prior to our visit giving us information about key location and wifi connection, so I can't provide feedback on her hosting.
The location was ideal, only 5-10 minutes from Frenchmen Street, and had street parking right in front. We were able to easily walk to many tourist locations, including the French Quarter, the cemeteries, jazz venues, and other great well known NOLA places.
The house was clean and Heidi made it extremely easy for us to pick up the keys for the place. Heidi also left various supplies at the house, i.e., towels, coffee, bedding, far exceeding our expectations. [I found the Community coffee left for us to be an especially nice gesture since I can't function in the morning without coffee.]
The house was roomy enough for my small group and we found the kitchen to be a great location to eat our late night takeout Cafe Du Monde beignets.
We felt comfortable walking in the neighborhood at night, in a group, and felt secure within the house; however, I'm not sure if I would walk around the neighborhood by myself. I would definitely book this place again if I was in the area with friends.
This apartment was absolutely great. It's in a wonderful location for anyone trying to experience what New Orleans is really about: a stone's throw from Frenchman Street (for music lovers), a short walk from Lil Dizzy's (for soul-food aficionados), and in a diverse residential neighborhood (for those trying to avoid the lifeless hotels of the business district). The apartment itself is nicely furnished and charming. The only problem with it was that the bathroom door had to be pushed hard to get it closed; compared with all of the benefits of the place, a very minor and ultimately unimportant inconvenience.
This house was pretty much exactly as described. I've heard about shotgun houses but this was the first time I actually got to see the inside of one which was pretty cool. Had everything we would really need and was just a hop, skip and jump to the quarter. Neighborhood seemed friendly enough as well.
Cool place at the best location in New Orleans. Nice neighbors, we made some friends and had a little bbq. I would gladly stay there again: )
Heidi's house is lovely; fantastic accommodation just moments away from the bars and music of Frenchman St. As she states by her own admission, it is not a 'perfect' B&B, but real and authentic. We all felt it had bags of charm and character.
We stayed there as a group of four friends, and there is ample space. Would definitely stay there again when visiting NOLA.
Heidi was very helpful before arriving in terms of logistics, and on arrival into New Orleans in the dark, all was made very easy. Is also worth noting that the accommodation is less than a 5min walk from the 'Megabus' terminus, so if you do book and are exploring travel, worth considering.
Thanks Heidi! Tom, Maddie, Laura and Tara, UK.

I'm a happy single woman in my mid 30s. I spent my 20s overseas (Europe, Asia, Australia) so I know how hard that travel bug can hit and how great it is to find a nice/cheap place to stay. I'm in the middle of starting my own business but still have a day job in mental health (with the corresponding sense of humor). I'm laid back but no drugs please. But beer and wine? Oh yeah.
I'm happy to show you the sites on my days off. I love people and am super friendly, but not looking to make a love connection here.
Anything else? Just ask.
