Come stay in our shotgun style home and experience the local life and all that New Orleans has to offer!

The space

The bedroom has a queen bed and in the living room, the sofa and futon are sleepers. The bathroom has a claw-foot tub with a shower. Take the house tour on youtube: just search for Mackenzie House New Orleans.

Updated Fall 2012

I had a summer sublet from hell so I'm a little gun shy about this rental season, but here goes. Please, please watch the video and read the following before you inquire about booking.

The house is in an urban neighborhood; I have added pictures of the street to give you an idea. If you want to stay at the Ritz or in a gated community, please do so. This is New Orleans and it is still in the process of being re-built. We have never had any safety issues on my street, but this is a city and like any city there is traffic, graffiti and homelessness in the area. If you are not ok with seeing any of those things, then please look for a hotel.

My house is a project house. We are fixing it up as we can but it's no where near being perfect. The wood floors need to be refinished, the paint is not great, the kitchen needs new flooring, doors need replacing, and bathroom is a hot mess of spray insulation. My intention is not to be abrupt. I love my house. It has charm and it is an authentic New Orleans experience. I just don't want anyone to think this is a luxury rental, it's not even close. That being said, everything works -- you can cook, relax, watch tv and sit in the overgrown backyard until your heart's content when you're not out exploring.

Thanks for reading. Wherever you stay I hope you have a wonderful time in the Big Easy.

Guest access

Whole apartment-- full kitchen, bedding, towels, basic tv, wi-fi, iron, blow dryer, and on-street parking.

Other things to note

On street parking available, usually right infront of the house. Please leave enough space for two vehicles to park in front of the house.

Pets are welcome, but we don't recommend letting pets wander alone in the back yard, house is elevated. However, there's plenty of grass infront of the house.

A/C window units are used for cooling the apartment, and space heaters for heating. Which may not be ideal for small children.

Heidi's place looked JUST like the photos! It was comfortable and it honestly felt like home. I strongly recommend Heidi's home to anyone looking for a reasonably priced place to stay!

The place was great. Definitely would visit again. Loved how close it was to everything and the neighborhood was really quiet.

We loved this house! You felt you were really living in New Orleans. Very traditional, really close to Frenchmen Street, and definitely the French Quarter was walkable as suggested. The area was just on the edge of the jazz district, so maybe not a really child-friendly district, but for us it was perfect. Our car sat parked on the street outside the house for four days, and we felt very safe. I would definitely stay here again.

It's in a very convenient location like the description says, but the neighborhood seems unsafe. Despite that, we never had any problems while we were there.

Simple shotgun home with all your basic needs. Stayed in a group of 4 and had no issues. Heidi was also very helpful in providing us with an additional air mattress. Good stay for a great price.

I'm a happy single woman in my mid 30s. I spent my 20s overseas (Europe, Asia, Australia) so I know how hard that travel bug can hit and how great it is to find a nice/cheap place to stay. I'm in the middle of starting my own business but still have a day job in mental health (with the corresponding sense of humor). I'm laid back but no drugs please. But beer and wine? Oh yeah.

I'm happy to show you the sites on my days off. I love people and am super friendly, but not looking to make a love connection here.

Anything else? Just ask.
