About this listing

We offer accommodation with an artistic outlook. Our fully self contained and independent apartment, re-built in 2011, is a completely re-worked 1890 end terrace. Our apartment is a short walk from Carriageworks, King St., Sydney Uni. and RPA.

The space

The King double bed in the master bedroom can be substituted for 2 singles to enable a twin bed arrangement in that room.
The architect has made the most of abundant natural light and ventilation.
Setting the scene for your exploration of Newtown's galleries, shops, music venues, theatres, & restaurants (and exclusively for the enjoyment of guests), is a retrospective by Australian artist Tony Twigg.
(In conjunction with Tony's SLOT gallery, we also host the DIP 24/7 Street Art project in our old Shopfront window.)
The bedroom features a King size bed, or 2 X extra length single beds. Your unit has a separate den with two King single sofa beds, suitable for two or three accompanying children. There is a second separate toilet just off the lounge.
The full sized kitchen has a cooktop, microwave, oven, complete with a 4 place dining setting.
There are adjoining laundry facilities with laundry tub and combined front loading washing machine/dryer.
Your ensuite bathroom features twin head and twin control showers, stone top vanities and heated towel rails.
Your kitchen opens onto our fully grassed courtyard where you will find an authentic Italian woodfired oven and mains connected natural gas barbecue.

Guest access

We will meet you at the apartment whenever you should arrive between 7AM and 10PM.
If you arrive outside of these hours we have a special collection point for your access card enabling you to let yourself into the apartment.
A small to medium size car can be parked in the courtyard of the apartment. Access is through a remote controlled roller door.

Public transport from Sydney airport.....
If you take the train to our place, it will cost around $16:50 per person and it will take nearly half an hour to complete the train journey + 10 minutes to walk from Macdonaldtown Station to our place.
(From Macdonaldtown head up Burren Street and turn right into Wilson. Golden Grove is the next roundabout you come to.)
If you catch a taxi, it will cost about $33. The taxi ride will take about 20 minutes, and you will not have to do any walking. So for 2 or more people it is a no-brainer! Catch a taxi!
Even for 1 person we do not believe the $10/15 saved catching a train is worth the time lost- the hassel of changing trains & the final walk. Try to have cash for your taxi ride. In Sydney taxis have a 10% surcharge if you use a credit card.
By bus, heading out of the city, alight on King Street just past the intersection with Queen Street. Walk, back in the direction you came, North, into Darlington Road, (old Sydney Uni. Regiment on the corner). Turn right into Golden Grove.
By bus, heading towards the city, alight at the corner of King St. and Carillon Ave. The old Sydney Uni. Regiment building is virtually opposite the bus stop. Cross the road at the lights and head round the old regiment building into Darlington Road. Soon Golden Grove Street appears on the right.

Interaction with guests

As your host I am at your service to the degree that suits you best.
After showing you your unit I generally assist folks with a short orientation tour of Newtown.
However, if you prefer independence and know the lay of the land, you can enjoy solitude and privacy within minutes of arriving.

Other things to note

We get your visit off to a flying start with the supply of a range of breakfast foods, sufficient to enable you to enjoy a morning meal whenever it suits for the first 3 or 4 days of your stay. Thereafter we ask that you take advantage of our awesome King Street shopping precint and the nearby Saturday Eveleigh Farmers' markets to top up your supplies by choosing food items to your taste for the balance of your stay.
We supply some fresh fruit, milk, juice, yoghurt, bacon, cereals, plunger coffee, tea bags, quick oats, Kelloggs variety, Wheatbix cereals and a loaf of bread and spreads and margarine.

Lloyd - thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your fantastic apartment. You were right - it was a very easy walk to Sydney Uni - lots of great places to eat - a very easy stagger back from the Royal after the post Graduation celebrations. The apartment was bright. light and airy on two perfect Sydney autumn days and warm and cosy on a grey and wet day. We will definitely stay with you again when we next have to be in Sydney. Once again many thanks for being a warm and wonderful host. Marisa

Every thing was good, the house is clean, same as showed on website, close to city and transportations. A little bit pity was that you can hear someone walk outside, talk outside or someone walk upstairs.

Response from Lloyd:
Hi Lugo, Being close to the University and having no set back from our public footpath we do occasionally have intrusive noise from passers by who seek shelter under our footpath awing. This is raised as an issue by guests on average about once every 12 months. Clearly there may be an issue here for lighter sleepers so I will add a photo to our photo gallery that brings this issue to the attention of potential guests. Also sometimes heavy footed steps from upstairs guests can be heard. That is a situation we have more control over. If it is a bother you must tell me and I can speak to the offending guests. It is clearly stated in our House Rules that folks should not be stomping round upstairs, and I am more than happy to remind guests of that fact, but you do have to draw the problem to my attention for me to be able to fix it. Thanks for your feedback, Lloyd

After disembarking our P&O cruise at Circular Quay, it was all smooth sailing with great thanks to Lloyd and his warm welcome and beautiful property. The property itself was clean, spacious and is fitted with a surround sound system which can usually always set the mood on any occasion. We had no issues with noise and slept comfortably. I would like to see more hosts like Lloyd on Airbnb! I'll be back. Much Love, Vandi & Friends

Lloyd is a fantastic host and the accommodation was great. Great location with public transportation easily accessible. Lloyd made sure that we were happy with everything before he left. Place was clean and tidy, and very comfortable. Thank you Lloyd for your hospitality and will highly recommend your place to anyone wanting easy access to the city using public transport.

This apartment is in a great location for walking to Sydney Uni and King Street, Newtown. Great modern apartment. It is perfect for 2 people. If you have a third person like we did and they sleep in the den, be aware of the noise from passing foot traffic and vehicles as the apartment sits on the corner of a roundabout and is in an area where quite a few people walk past.

Response from Lloyd:
Hi Sharla, Thanks for your commentary concerning noise in the front room. It has not been raised as a significant issue before. We have acoustic seals to minimise noise penetration into that room. I will double check they are in good condition and functioning properly. There are also louvre windows above the glass behind the old shop front. I will make sure these are correctly positioned, (shut!), when folks stay in that room. Obviously the people walking past when you stayed must have had fairly strong voices, because footsteps alone are not going to be audible from that room in any way shape or form. Art lovers checking out our installations in the old shop front window have been know to engage in conversation close to the door into the den. I will display a sign near the door which requests passers-by to respect the amenity of residents by avoiding conversation near the door. I won't put a noise warning into the description yet, but I will ask all guests staying in the den over the next few weeks if it has been an issue for them. If it is confirmed as an issue by other guests I will add a warning to the description. The space is having a lot of usage this month so we are well positioned to confirm one way or another. Thanks again for your feedback, Best regards, Lloyd

Lloyd was absolutely brilliant, and the house was incredible. Loved the art installation in the front room, and the location could not have been better. Will be back next time we're in Sydney
