The Space

My home is in a quiet, beautiful, safe neighborhood in Northeast Portland. It is a small bungalow with a queen bed in one room and a twin in the other . The rooms have a dresser, desk and chair, along with closet use. Both rooms can be rented through Airbnb. There is a shared bathroom if both rooms are rented at the same time. Otherwise it is private. There is shampoo, conditioner, soap, shaving cream, and toothpaste for you to use in the bathroom. Also, a curling iron, hair dryer and flat iron for the ladies.
In the twin room for this listing, comfy twin bed with plenty of covers, quilts and pillows.
There is a large kitchen for your use, a living room and a piano room, wifi and a beautiful backyard with a deck where you can take your coffee or tea in the morning.
There is a coffee machine, an electric pot for heating water,a blender, a toaster and a toaster oven. There is plenty of cabinet and frig. space for your food if you are here for a longer stay. There will be either fruit or rolls and eggs or oatmeal for you to have for breakfast, along with some juice and coffee or tea.
There is also a washer and dryer for your use.
There are three major bus lines within 2 blocks of the house; one that goes directly downtown, a 15 minute ride. There is also a train(the Max) connection right in Hollywood which will take you to the convention center, downtown to the airport and many other places. The drive to downtown is 10 minutes and 10-15 minutes to the airport. There is no airplane noise. There is street parking in front of the house. It is plentiful and free!
I am 10-15 away from the airport, bus station and train station and will provide transportation to and from any of these for a $10 fee if my schedule allows.
My neighborhood is between the Beaumont and Hollywood districts, both within walking distance with many shops, restaurants and brew pubs. It is a beautiful area just to walk in or ride bikes. I have 2 bikes that you may use. One is a recumbent and the other, a Townie.
You may use Instant Book to reserve if you find the place to your liking. You do not need to contact me first. However, please do not reserve for anyone else except the Airbnb member unless you have first conversed with me.

Guest Access

Guests may enter through any door. Usually you will come in the front door. You will then find your room from a note left on the front door. Like a treasure hunt. You will have access to the whole house and yard except for my bedroom and bathroom. There are laundry facilities in the basement for guest use.

Interaction with Guests

I will spend as much or as little time with you as you like. I am a fun loving, open minded 60 something and I love to brag about Portland and all the special areas there are to see. I am happy to point you in any direction you need to go and help you figure out how to get there. I will be available in the mornings in the kitchen. You can call me any other time if you need anything.

The Neighborhood

My neighborhood is between the Beaumont district and the Hollywood district This area has a few coffee shops within walking distance, 5 or 6 micro breweries and many many shops and restaurants, also within walking distance. Close by in Hollywood is the historic Hollywood Theater for just $7/ticket! The neighborhoods are great for strolling or biking to look at houses and gardens. There are usually families out playing and walking or biking around.

Getting around

There are three major bus lines with one that goes directly downtown. There is also a train connection right in Hollywood. The bus ride is only 15 minutes to downtown and to many other interesting areas such as Mississippi Ave, Alberta Arts, Hawthorne and the Pearl. Everything is close and easy. I am a15 minute drive from the airport. Many people have stayed without a car and found it very easy.

Other Things to Note

I leave a note in the bedroom detailing anything you might need to know about the house, such as recycling, how to work the shower, front door policy, etc. I have one old cat who likes to be petted. She is very friendly.

  • This was my first time to Portland and Leigh's place was the perfect spot for me - easy walking distance to great coffee shops, restaurants and transportation. She offered a great balance between being available for me to chat and ask questions and also giving me my space. The room was comfy, the neighborhood quiet, and the house clean. What more could you ask for?

Walking in the neighborhood is a real treat. the Portland gardens are so creative and unique as befits this town. I love the feeling of being in a real neighborhood instead of a nameless hotel.

I am a single woman, who teaches piano for a living. I am fun loving, easy going and open minded. I love interacting with my guests and helping them when they want it. However, I will not intrude. When not teaching piano, I sing in choirs, do gardening and explore Portland. There are many neat neighborhoods and places to eat and drink here. Occasionally I travel to visit family in Illinois, California and England. If you come and stay here, I will be able to point you in the right direction of many different places to have fun in Portland. I have lived here for 7 years and still find it fascinating. Before living here I lived in southern California for 13 years and before that in Wisconsin for 15 years. I am one of six kids and have 2 grown children of my own.
