There is no airplane noise. There is street parking in front of the house. It is plentiful and free!
I am 10-15 away from the airport, bus station and train station and will provide transportation to and from any of these for a $10 fee per person each way if my schedule allows.
My neighborhood is between the Beaumont and Hollywood districts, both within walking distance with many shops, restaurants and brew pubs. It is a beautiful area just to walk in or ride bikes. I have 2 bikes that you can use. I also have a cat, if allergies are an issue.
You do not need to get my approval to rent the room. You may instant book. There is no need to inquire first if the room is available. Airbnb does not let you inquire about certain dates unless they are already available.
I will do everything I can to make your visit pleasant and comfortable.
Guests may enter through any door. Usually you will come in the front door. You will then find your room from a note left on the front door. Like a treasure hunt. You will have access to the whole house and yard except for my bedroom and bathroom. There are laundry facilities in the basement for guest use.
Interaction with Guests
I will spend as much or as little time with you as you like. I am a fun loving, open minded 62 yr. old and I love to brag about Portland and all the special areas there are to see. I am happy to point you in any direction you need to go and help you figure out how to get there. I will be usually be available in the mornings in the kitchen. You can call me or text any other time if you need anything.
My neighborhood is between the Beaumont district and the Hollywood district This area has a few coffee shops within walking distance, 5 or 6 micro breweries and many shops and restaurants, also within walking distance. Close by in Hollywood is the historic Hollywood Theater for just $7/ticket! The neighborhoods are great for strolling or biking to look at houses and gardens. There are usually families out playing and walking or biking around.
There are three major bus lines with one that goes directly downtown. There is also a lite rail connection right in Hollywood and on 60th Ave. The bus ride is only 15 minutes to downtown and to many other interesting areas such as Mississippi Ave, Alberta Arts, Hawthorne and the Pearl. Everything is close and easy. I am a 15 minute drive from the airport. Many people have stayed without a car and found it very easy.
Other Things to Note
I leave a note in the bedroom detailing anything you might need to know about the house, such as recycling, how to work the shower, front door policy, etc. I have one old cat who likes to be petted. She is very friendly. She stays indoors at night and in the winter. I have 2 bikes that are pictured and you may use free of charge.
Quiet is observed after 11 pm and before 8am for consideration of others sleeping.
Smoking is not allowed in or near the home.
Careful use of utilities is appreciated; lights and fans turned off when not in use. No windows open in the wintertime.
I would like to keep the storm door tightly closed in the winter.
It will be expected that if you rent the room, you are the only one staying in it. You may bring a guest in to show him/her your space, but not to stay for an extended period of time.
Cleaning up after yourself in the kitchen is expected, including the coffee machine.
Just common courtesy, kindness and responsibility is expected.
This was such a great experience. Leigh was a perfect host. She was there for me when I needed directions and she was very respectful of my privacy. The twin room was cozy and bright. I really liked the charming neighborhood filled with homes built many years ago. I decided not to rent a car this time so there was a short bus ride to visit everything I wanted to see. Thank you Leigh!
Leigh was very welcoming when I arrived. She had a welcome note on the door saying where to go in case she wouldn't be home when I got there. Notes were also in the bathroom and kitchen so that the Airbnbers would know which shelves or cabinets to use.
The neighborhood was very nice. I felt safe while there. The room was as described, with a comfortable twin bed, two soft pillows, clean sheets, and 3 windows that I could use to adjust the light as I saw fit. Leigh also provided me with a towel, wash cloth, and a hand towel for use during my stay as well as allowed access to the laundry room (although I did not need it while I stayed). She also had a shelf in the bathroom containing face wash, shampoo, toothpaste, and other bathroom necessities that were fair game for all guests to use.
On the first day I arrived in Portland, I felt a bit overwhelmed, so Leigh drove me downtown to the Saturday Market and provided me with detailed instructions on how to use public transportation to get back to her house. She also made some very good suggestions for places to see and/or eat.
For the cat lovers, her cat is adorable and very friendly! Overall, I liked staying here and would highly recommend the place to others both for the great price and the welcoming nature of the hostess. :)
Leigh is a great host! Her house is cute, comfortable and clean. (So does her cat!) The house is also in a nice and peaceful neighborhood and has plenty good places to dine in around. Though it doesn't locate in downtown, it is easy to access to downtown through public transportations. Besides, Leigh is knowledgeable about Portland. I got wonderful advice from her and really had a great time traveling in this charming city! I really appreciate my stay in her place and would definitely come back again next time when I drop by Portland!
Firstly, Leigh is a person who is professional but completely friendly. The house is also very comfortable replete with a beautiful garden area and adorable kitty. And, lastly, her ability to assist people with their needs (such as directions, great food in fridge, driving to out of the way places-- excellent uber driver) was also greatly appreciated.
Staying with Leigh was a wonderful experience. I arrived late at night due to my flight schedule and she was kind enough to leave a sign on the door about where my room was etc. The "manual" on the desk was helpful as well on navigating her place. There were a lot of brochures about portland which i flipped through that night. The next day (and the day after) we had conversations about portland, where to go and such. She also has a garden at the back where you could just relax and take some sunshine. She responded to all my needs, and pretty much was an awesome hostess. I would be glad to stay at her place again!
On a side note, her cat was very nice as well!

About the Host, Leigh
I am a single woman, who teaches piano for a living. I am fun loving, easy going and open minded. I love interacting with my guests and helping them when they want it. However, I will not intrude. When not teaching piano, I sing in choirs, do gardening and explore Portland. There are many neat neighborhoods and places to eat and drink here.
Occasionally I travel to visit family in Illinois, California and England.
If you come and stay here, I will be able to point you in the right direction of many different places to have fun in Portland. I have lived here for over 8 years and continue to find it fascinating. Before living here I lived in southern California for 13 years and before that in Wisconsin for 15 years. I am one of six kids and have 2 grown children of my own and 2 young granddaughters who are one of the lights of my life. I was born and raised in Evanston, IL and am a Midwesterner at heart.
