Room in a chalet

Your own room in a home, plus access to shared spaces.
You'll feel immediately at home in our beautiful mountain chalet. At 8000' elevation, we are surrounded by countless opportunities for hiking and photography year round from our location in Roosevelt Nat'l Forest. Relax in your own private suite on the main floor with breakfast each morning. We also offer gourmet dinners and picnic baskets/charcuterie boards for hiking and / or travel. We offer a full cooked to order breakfast with your stay. See menus on Cassidy Ranch Bed & Breakfast.

The space
The home was built in 1997 with extensive views over the surrounding horse pasture, meadows, trees and rock formations, with mountains in the backdrop. This suite includes a bedroom and a private bath. The bedroom is small but bright and airy, with large windows overlooking the deck and meadow views. It offers a new full-size Serta firm pillowtop mattress with hotel style pillows and high thread count 100% cotton sheets and down alternative comforter under a quilted coverlet. There is also a mini-fridge exclusively for guest use, which we're happy to stock with local beer and wine upon request (addt'l charge). The guest room has its own bathroom directly across the hall with full tub and tiled shower and a marble vanity with plenty of room for personal items. We provide bath linens and toiletries, such as soaps, shampoo, conditioner, etc. The rest of the main floor holds the common formal living area with fireplace, the dining room and kitchen, and a huge deck filled with flowers in the spring and summer months. The owner's private suite is on another floor.

We have cats, horses, and chickens, and sometimes host guest animals as well, so please note that if you have allergies.

Guests are welcome to use the microwave, coffee-maker, and nespresso machine in the kitchen. Full kitchen privileges can be arranged as well, depending on guest needs. We offer meals at additional charge as well due to limited menu options in the area.

Our menus are posted on our website and FB page under CassidyRanch Bed & Breakfast!

Guest access
The home is within the Roosevelt National Forest, in a private community where walking is a popular pastime on the dirt roads and many hiking trails. GVM also has private fishing lakes (guest passes for our stocked lakes are $10pp), ponds and some waterfalls as well. In June, the meadows are covered in wildflowers including pink phlox, blue wild iris, blue larkspur and yellow/red gaillardia. There are private hiking trails on the property, and additional State and Federal Trailheads within 5-10 minutes. Favorite trails are Lady Moon, Mount Margaret, Hewlett Gulch, Young's Gulch, Grey Rock and many others. We're 1.5 hrs from Rocky Mountain National Park and 40 minutes to the gastronomic haven that is Fort Collins. Fort Collins is also known as the Napa Valley of beer for the many breweries and beer gardens in lovely settings.

During your stay
Our private rooms are on different floors from the guest suite, which is on the main floor. We cater mostly to hikers and visitors who want to enjoy the mountains. We can also provide picnic baskets or packed lunches for hikes. Our place is heart-centered, warm, and inviting, you'll feel right at home. We can also provide cookies for the horses, or you're welcome to help us gather eggs or visit the gardens.

Other things to note
We are on a school bus route, and therefore our roads are regularly plowed and maintained by state highway crews, however, four wheel drive is highly recommended during heavy snowfall periods (about 5% of the time - call ahead from Jan-Mar). We sometimes have late and early snows, so checking on current road conditions is always recommended during the winter months.

To keep rates low and only charge people for what they use, we do not list all available amenities and offerings via AirBnB (they don't have ala carte pricing). Please keep in mind that gear rentals and office rental are separate charges). We also charge for each additional guest. We do accept pets, and pet fees are $10/night/well-behaved pet, with a minimum of $50. If you are bringing pets, please make sure to let us know when you book your reservation.

Neighborhood highlights

Set on 3 acres at 7700' elevation with pine groves, wildflowers, perennials and pastures. We have horses, chickens, a turkey, ducks, & cuddly cats, We daily see deer, marmots, pica, foxes and many species of wild birds who visit our feeders on the deck.

Our property is in Roosevelt National Forest with direct access to many private trails that connect all the way to Grey Rock and Hewlett Gulch. Many additional State & Federal trail heads are within a 15 minute drive. We are just 8 miles from several mountain lakes for swimming, fishing and canoeing/kayaking & paddle boarding. There are two horseback riding facilities within 10-20 minutes with trail rides into the mountains.

Beautiful photographic opportunities of flowers, pastures, farm animals, wildflower fields, rock formations, amazing birds and wildlife are available on-site.

For places to see and things to do, I recommend Soapstone Prairie for the earliest spring wildflowers (May 15-Jun15); Molly Moon Trail for Summer Wildflowers(July 15-Aug 15) and Crellin Nature Trail (see the Glacier View website for private maps) for early summer wildflowers (June 5-July 15). For waterfalls, I recommend Crellin nature trail very early in the spring (not tall, but it follows the creek, so lovely) and Mount Margaret for summer (very pretty - check out pictures on alltrails).

For stunning day drives, I recommend (from our place) taking 74e west from us about 5 miles, then turn left on CR69 (signs for the boy scout ranch and Shambala Center). Then take 69 all the way over to Rustic and County Highway 14. If you turn West there, you can explore Big South and some incredible high lake trails just over the pass toward Steamboat Springs. There are many more, but these are the ones that are just to die for. If you have a disabled/or shortwinded person -this is worth a drive and they can stop at the reservoir and several campgrounds just before and just over the pass for incredible photo opportunities within just 100 yards or less of the car. Same for Big South - but serious hikers will not want to ignore the opportunity to experience it at it's fullest. It is my favorite place to hike outside RMNP.

If the driver turns left (east) at Hwy 14, they'll be heading downriver and through some of the most incredible canyons and photo ops outside of the grand canyon. There are also many incredibly beautiful car-campgrounds and short hike-in sites between Rustic and Fort Collins - but either book way ahead (some sites are reservable) or get there by 10am or don't expect to get a site. My favorite hike along this route is Young's Gulch. It very gently climbs about 3.5 miles along a year-round creek - it covers all the most lovely parts of low-elevation poudre canyon flora and fauna, including shady waterflows with rock crossings, unique rock outcroppings, photo-ops galore, early summer - early autumn wildflowers (mid- August, and more towards the top) and lots of family-friendly mini log-balance and rock climbing opportunities that won't scare parents. I also like that it's a gentle climb up, and by the time you're really tired, it's all downhill on the way back. Visitors are likely to see lots of butterflies and tadpoles on this trail.

Visitors can do both the west to the pass and back again all the way to 287 in one day, but must have to choose between Young's Gulch and Big South for their real hike. Further east past Young's Gulch, visitors will get to Mishawaka - the first real stop for food - but it is a very popular nightlife area with live bands almost every night, so I recommend if you have kids, to get there by 3pm. Some more kid-friendly features driving back to 287 include often sights of rafters on the rivers, and a bona fide cut tunnel through the mountain.
