This gorgeous apartment has a new Bosch dishwasher, Turkish leather couch, antique lacquered wardrobe, hand knotted Shiraz carpet, luxury linen and original art work.
The apartment is a three minute walk from Acland St St Kilda which is the oldest, most popular area of Melbourne. Not only visitors from Interstate and Overseas visit Acland and Fitzroy Streets (nearby), but even Melburnians flock there on weekends.
At either end of Acland St are trams to the city (20 minutes) and Balaclava (5 minutes) where there's another whole world of interesting shops.
Acland St itself has the best restaurants and cake shops you'll find in Melbourne, from Blue Corn, the best home made Mexican food (hand made burritos, tacos and tortillas) you'll find in this half of the globe, to Leroys, the coffee connoisseur's choice, delicious Chinta Ria's Malaysian kitchen and Santa Anas Tapas Bar to die for.
A three minute walk behind the apartment is the 100-year-old St Kilda Botanical Gardens with gazebos, a lake and rose garden. The beach is ten minutes by foot. There is a bicycle path which goes for kilometres along the beach and you can hire bicycles nearby at St Kilda Cycles.
Large rooms, sunny, an aesthetic pleasure. New ikea kitchen.
Delightful atmosphere with lovely lamps, original artworks and intriguing, unique prints. Kitchen has good quality cooking gear.
Please note, for stays of three nights or less, a cleaning surcharge of $60 applies. This should be left in cash for the cleaner in the apartment.

Four of us spent 3 nights at Barbara's place. It's a solid building with a rustic charm. It was unfortunate that there was a heatwave on as it got very hot inside. There were 2 fans, but only so effective. We still enjoyed our stay there, as it was handy to everything we needed. The beds and couches were very comfortable with a large TV screen to watch the tennis. The beach was a short walk away which was very pleasant at the end of an extremely hot day. Overall
the apartment is in a good location which would make it a good choice for anyone visiting.
Mary-Anne was a lovely guest and kind in her private response to me. I only wish she had posted in the public view her comment "The weather was out of the ordinary, so usually probably not such a problem" This is the case. Temperatures while she was there wer ein the mid-40s and went on for some days which iis not typical of Melbourne summer weather. Normally the apartment stays cool for three days during hot weather because of the solid double brick construction..I was in Europe at the time and the winter was positively balmy, so freak weather conditions are possible.
I have recently returned from a 3 night stay at Oberon. The whole experience was excellent, from the booking through to our meet and greet on arrival. Barbara was a great host and very accommodating. The apartment itself was just what we were after and it was in a superb location in St Kilda, 5 mins walk to Acland Street and easy transport links into CBD. I would highly recommend this property and would happily return one day
It's a great place to stay, very close to shops and cafes, yet very quiet. Spacious rooms and also very comfortable beds!
Finally well organised and Barbara was lovely to deal with.
would definitely recommend
Location was the only thing that really tallied with the description of the apartment I had read online. The photo online made the place look three times bigger than reality. It was comfy but not 'luxurious'. It was somewhat grotty and not adequately cleaned. Doors didn't close, kitchen tap very loose etc etc. Described as art deco was misleading ..it was just red eclectic mish mash of eras and styles with some art deco plaster work on ceilings only.
The rate was too high and I left with a feeling that I had been misinformed and overcharged.
This guest was happy enough with the apartment that he asked to stay
another week but at a reduced rate. The threat was that he would write a
negative review of the apartment if I did not comply. When I refused to
offer a rate 50% less than advertised, he carried out this threat which has
resulted in no bookings through this site since his review. The main
legitimate complaint was that the kitchen tap was loose. This, has now
been rectified. The 'somewhat grotty' comment, as he said in an email to
me, referred to two cups hanging up which had streaks on the outside and a
couple of things in the dishwasher which previous guests had left and the
cleaner had missed. The listing says the apartment is art deco, not the
furniture, which is electic as this guest mentions, but as other reviewers
have noted, is also tasteful and stylish. The lounge suite alone is of the
highest quality (cost $20,000) and few people would describe it as a 'mish
mash'. No other review has reflected this guest's assessment, with those
taking the time to review, having found quite a different experience:
Scott: ' The apartment was as advertised...
Helene: Everything was neat and clean and well organised....
Leisbeth: The apartment was very luxurious and comfortable...
Kerry: We stayed for three nights at Luxury Art Deco while in Melbourne to
visit family and see a show. We were very comfortable - loved the decor and
Adele: Beautiful apartment ...
I can only hope that anyone considering booking this apartment takes the
time to read other reviews and considers possible reasons this one is so at
odds with all the others.
Alexis: The interior was very pleasant to live, very functional, quiet and
Sophie: The place itself is nicely decorated...
Hi Barbara we had a fabulous time and your apartment was lovely and so cosy. Thanks for having us!
We stayed for three nights at Luxury Art Deco while in Melbourne to visit family and see a show. We were very comfortable - loved the decor and furnishings and it was close to shops, restaurants, cafes and public transport. The photos are accurate and Barbara was very responsive in our communication.
Enjoyed our stay and Barbara's apartment was nice & cosy. Would definitely come back!
Great place about 5 mins walk away from tram stop. Close to handful of wonderful cafes on Acland street to while away a lazy morning.
Beautiful apartment and helpful host. Couldn't be better located to enjoy St Kilda and the city while avoiding city crowding and noise. We had six people and did perfectly fine.
