  • A great hideaway! The fiancée and I enjoyed a very peaceful weekend in Ojai, and couldn't have been more pleased with the accommodations. The studio had plenty of room and was extremely convenient to several great hiking trails. No real windows, but a great view of the mountains upon opening the front door. Otis was an attentive and friendly host, and even shared some delicious homebrewed beer with us. Highly recommended.

  • Otis was incredibly accommodating, prompt, and friendly. He lent us his bicycles which added an incredible value to our stay at Casa Verde. The space was clean, efficient, and comfortable. Location was beautiful. I couldn't have asked for more in a place to stay. I stayed on the pull-out bed that I found surprisingly comfortable. I would recommend Casa Verde to anyone looking for a simple and clear space in Ojai from which to grow and expand.
Also, Luke and Lucy were complete dears, and very well behaved.

  • Otis and his Labradors are very personable and welcoming. Clean and modern accommodations. One of the nicest (if not only), garages we've experienced. Otis's fridge stocking (coffees, beers, chardonnay) pleasantly unexpected and nearly offset the unexpected spiders, cricket and ants. "Accuracy is the twin brother of honesty; inaccuracy, of dishonesty", Nathaniel Hawthorne. Contrary to it's description, this is not a "loft", which Webster defines as "an upper room or floor". It is a garage. Careful examination of the photos will confirm as much, but will nor relate the sleep depriving sound of some kind of water related pump directly adjacent to the garage that activates every time the host flushes a toilet or turns on a valve upstairs.

    Response from Otis:

Interesting quote and oddly backhanded compliment! I have adjusted the description to note "garage door" so there can be no confusion. The photos show the space exactly as it is. Loft is also a description for an industrial type use converted into a living space. Most people seem to love the space and it's hip rawness with polished concrete floors.
The water pressure pump is only on in daytime hours. Thx

  • This little studio apartment is very serviceable and pleasant. It is clean and comfortable, with warmth if needed, and a most comfortable bed. The kitchen is perfectly adequate, using a microwave and a plug in hot water heater. There was plenty of space for storage. It is important that know in the door, and the only normal full size window in the little apartment was placed behind the bathtub in such a way that someone showering was in full view of anyone going up the stairs! It was clean and pleasant with a nice bathroom, hot water that seemed unresponsive to adjusting to less hot, and a functional kitchen. Amenities were missing: enough toilet paper, tissues, a drain board for the sink, easy access to the microwave. It suited our purposes well, to have a safe place to stay and nearby a lovely walk up the mountain.
Three of us were quite able to stay quite comfortably.

  • Clean, quiet studio with interesting architectural details. Convenient to downtown but far enough to be away from it all.

  • Great location in Ojai. My wife and I were in town for a wedding and were looking for something well priced and close to town - this was perfect. There are great grocery stores and food options at the bottom of the hill - a decent walk or a short car ride. We were also happy to discover a trail with access to the Los Padres National Forest along with some other local trails (just walk up the hill a little further and the entrance is on the right by a water tower!) We were able to get in a 6 mile hike the morning before the wedding!

As some other reviewers have noted, there is not a full kitchen but a fridge for food storage. The garage door on one wall shouldn't put anyone off - the apartment is well finished and it doesn't take away from the accommodations.

  • The Guest House was clean, modern and exactly like it is in the photos. The location is very convenient as it is only a 0.5 mile walk to the center of town or a 0.25 walk to some good hikes. Otis is a responsive and attentive host. The only thing I missed was a stove in the kitchen because I was looking forward to some cooking on the weekend -- but Otis was quick to offer his outdoor BBQ grill for our use!

  • My sister and I recently stayed here for two nights and had a wonderful time. Otis and his friendly dogs greeted us when we arrived (and Otis even treated us to some of his delicious home-brewed beer!). The studio is spacious, clean, and modern. The main room is divided into a sitting area and a sleeping area, and my sister and I had plenty of room to spread out. The full size fridge and microwave made it easy to make breakfast and lunch and heat up leftovers. The studio has a ceiling fan and also ac/heating, so we were very comfortable. We found it to be an amazing location. Only a 5 minute walk up the street to get to hiking trails and about a 10-15 minute walk to get to downtown Ojai. We didn't need to get in the car the whole time we were there. We definitely plan to return!

  • This was a cute and delightful little apartment nestled up against the hills in the middle of an olive grove. It is basic but very tastefully appointed. It is located very close to downtown Ojai and is a wonderful place from which to explore the town and valley, or to catch some quiet moments between busy, intense workshop sessions as I did. The host lives upstairs and is very gracious and accommodating. I will definitely seek this place out on my next trip to Ojai.

  • Otis was friendly, easygoing, and open – he made it easy for me to get in when I arrived late in the day, was available to chat once in a while, and when I had a question or a request he engaged promptly with an easy solution that worked for both of us.

I appreciated the simplicity of the space, and how easy it was to bring the temperature down when I came back after a hot day. The space is very IKEA-studio-apartment-in-converted-garage… though if there's ever been a car in here, I'd be surprised. The ceiling fan and mini-split heat-pump make it easy to choose how warm or cool it is. The location is great too – about halfway between downtown and the hikes that overlook Ojai. Dogs were friendly, and not overbearing.

The one reason I might warn a friend to look elsewhere would be if they were sensitive to mechanical sounds – something about the water system, I think, makes a noise whenever the water runs, either in this space or in the apartment upstairs. A shower by the caretaker at night meant listening to the sound of a water pressurizer as I fell asleep one night. Not a deal-breaker for me, but I know people for whom it would be. For me, it was an amusing juxtaposition with the otherwise serene quietness of the place, and the canvass of visible stars at night.

I'd readily stay here again. It's not fancy, but it's clean, simple, and easy.
