Interaction with Guests
We believe that check in should be as easy, simple, and stress free as possible and strive to make it so. We live here so depending on scheduling you may see us or another guest come and go. Otherwise this should be considered a private space and the level of interaction is up to you. We are always happy to answer any questions that guests may have about the house, area, getting around, tours, etc. Just ask!
Our house is in the heart of downtown Ithaca, we've lived here for 14 years and love it. Guests coming from cities tend to find the area quiet and charming, while those those coming from the suburbs tend to find it edgy and alive. We of course think it's is the best location in town.
The neighborhood is somewhat urban, sometimes lively, and always safe, friendly and culturally diverse. Working class families rub elbows with Cornell professors and massage therapists, and your favorite baristas share the sidewalks with loitering kids and community center volunteers.
We are walking distance to the commons, shopping, great grocery stores, playgrounds, trails, and awesome coffee shops. The area is loaded with excellent restaurants and convenient to all area attractions. Parking near the house is amply available, safe and free.
Ithaca - Catch a bus two blocks away or on a beautiful day walk to the farmer's market or visit Cornell campus for a tour. Public transport is very convenient from our home, as is anything you may like to see, do, eat or drink in downtown Ithaca. Walking distance to everything. On bus route. Area taxis available. Cornell University 1 mile uphill. Ithaca College 1 mile uphill. Airport 6 miles.
The Finger Lakes Region - Our place is a great home base for guests exploring other Finger Lakes areas and attractions. We are convenient by car or tour to Corning, Watkins Glen, Hector, Skaneateles, Trumansburg, Geneva, Seneca Falls, Cayuga and Seneca Lake Wineries, The Fingerlakes National Forest, Filmore Glen State Park, the list goes on...
Other Things to Note
We want to be sure that our guests are happy with their accommodations. Our home is a good fit for people that like staying with others and appreciate what a city location have to offer. While there is a good amount of privacy here it is good to keep in mind that you are staying in a bedroom in our home that we also live in with other guests. Our goal is to offer a clean, safe, friendly and affordable place for visitors. It is much different (and we think more interesting, charming and fun) than staying in a hotel, traditional bed and breakfast or a private apartment. If this sounds like something that is a good fit for you, our family would be so happy to host you and yours.

Awesome experience overall. I highly recommend staying in The Cheerful Room!
Easy and thoughtful check-in process. Great location - walking distance/a short drive to almost anywhere in Ithaca. The bathroom is clean and spacious! Everything was as described.
My room was very clean and the house was great. I recommend this air bnb without hesitation.
Thank you so much! Spent a night with these guys after a day of racing. Perfect little house for a weekend getaway. VERY accommodating and helpful.
Really enjoyed staying with Alexis and Mark. The house is creatively and beautifully decorated. The dog is a legend and the conversations were friendly. They make check it easy to check in with a lock box at the door and a welcome note to help find everything. I'm a regular user of Air BnB and often go for an entire places just to have privacy, but this house is big and has a young and friendly feel, would go back any time. Highly recommended for a great AirBnB experience.
First, Alexis and Mark were great communicators. All of my communications received responses within the hour. Also, I had to change the date to the following day due to illness and they graciously facilitated the change. When we arrived Alexis was there to warmly greet us. The house is a work in progress--in the best sense of the word. It is full of personality and happy surprises. Very fun! The room is ...very cheerful!--and thoughtfully laid out with a closet lined with interesting books. The bathtub was used immediately (I was sick) and that was a luxurious experience. The neighborhood is diverse and so close to coffee shops, etc.
I highly recommend staying in The Cheerful Room.
I had a great experience staying with Alexis and Mark for a night. Everything was made easy by clear information and a book of local recommendations for food, coffee, drinks, etc. Lovely dog too, which is an added bonus for dog lovers. The Cheerful Room is spacious and bright with light coming in from three sides of the room. They're great company too.
My girlfriend and I slipped into Alexis and Mark's for one night on a weekend trip to Toronto from New York. We stayed just one night, but had a fine, peaceful sleep in a cozy and charming house. We had the "cheerful room," an upgrade they offered when I originally booked. Because we were arriving late and leaving early, we never actually encountered the hosts, but the process of key exchange and welcome was so well devised and thoughtful I thought nothing of it. Alexis and Mark were, then, a breed of the perfect host -- perfectly accommodating and generous but, at least in my case, not visible! Five stars for "value." I hate that word but that's what this place is, a great value in a cool town.
