Sailors Sandbox was built and designed with Love. We have shared our cottage with family, friends, and guests from many areas. Our beach cottage reflects authentic beach vibes inside and outside. You immediately get a feeling of home when you enter and will appreciate our attention to detail with pine and juniper wood from floor to ceiling, boat lights, brass port hole mirrors, etc.
It's a place to relax, fish, kayak, commune with nature...great sunrises and sunsets.

The space
4x4 Vehicles are an Absolute Necessity! No exceptions…it’s a sandy beach road.
Sailor’s Sandbox (previously known as Sound Serenity, is now named after our Granddaughter Sailor) is a cottage with an open concept design. While cooking in the kitchen you can easily converse with people sitting at the bar area and den.
Laundry room is adjacent to the kitchen and can be closed off with a French door when needed.
The Master bedroom is accessible to the downstairs bathroom with a pocket door. There are french doors leading out of the master bedroom to a cozy reading nook. There you can enjoy books, game’s, and movies provided in the bookcase. This year contrary to our beliefs of “beach life “ we have added WiFi…remember this is a rural area and internet speed is slow. Be sure to bring your info for logging into Netflix, HBO, Pandora, etc. for the ROKU TV and sign out before leaving. We only have one TV… remember it’s a vacation to enjoy the bonding time with your significant other, family, friends, etc.
Upstairs is an open loft design with a queen size bed at one end and bunk beds at the other. There is also a bathroom upstairs.
Plan to relax on one of the two covered porches or bring some lawn chairs to enjoy the beach.
We have stairs leading down to the water and sandbars (when the tide is low). Sailor’s Sandbox is a place to come unwind, savor the moments away from the noise and hustle of everyday…Sailor’s Sandbox is a place where a child or children or grown up’s can come to just relax. As a child I was blessed with the opportunity of growing up on the Outer Banks and I want to share my rural experience with others. Our cottage is not a fancy place, but it’s a home that has been built with love and we plan on sharing many many memories with our Sailor.

We have several neighbors, so far not overly developed, and with our bulkhead enclosure we have our own little sandbox to enjoy outdoor lounging in the sun, fishing, playing games, etc.
Two miles south on Hwy 12 local fish house where you can inquire about local seafood.
Bay Breeze Restaurant is a short drive or walk as well as the Cedar Island/Ocracoke ferry down the beach from the cottage.
The beach on the opposite side of the ferry is home to wild horses and cattle. Please don’t disturb them and admire them from a distance. The nearby resort has information about horseback riding and kayak rentals.

My husband and I designed and built our cottage with the intention of having a place of refuge from the everyday fast pace of the world…you will truly lose track of the time and days at Sailors Sandbox.
I grew up on Cedar Island as have my family generations before me. My husband’s family is from the surrounding OBX area as well.
In our spare time we also enjoy traveling in our country, abroad, boating, fishing, and soon to be beach days with our grandchild Sailor.
