:: Hi there and welcome to my listing! ::
This two-bedroom, one-bath cozy ground-level apartment makes a great home base from which to explore hip Logan Square's restaurants, coffee houses and farmers market as well as a perfect point of departure for the rest of Chicago's sites and attractions. The apartment is an eight-minute walk from the Logan Square Blue Line el station (so about 40 minutes from O'Hare and 25 minutes to Downtown via train).
:: The Place ::
It is an English Garden apartment (ground level) in a vintage 3-flat; I live upstairs. The apartment is decorated and furnished in a fun vintage modern style with comfort and function foremost in mind. It combines historic charm (wood floors, claw foot bath tub and quirky closets) with 21st-century must-haves (WiFi, every kind of coffee maker possible and shared washer/dryer). Oh, except for a TV; sorry, no TV!
As someone who has traveled quite a bit for business and pleasure the last 20 years, I kept my own standards and wishes in mind when outfitting the place. This means comfortable furniture, good mattresses, great 100% cotton sheets, excellent artwork, decent barware, and it will be super clean when you arrive. ;) I can't function in the morning without coffee, so all sorts of java accoutrements will be waiting for you.
:: The Neighborhood ::
The Logan Square neighborhood is very residential but has pockets of great restaurants and bars (Fat Rice, Hachi's Kitchen, Longman & Eagle, Lula Cafe, Masa Azul, Revolution Brewing, Telegraph and The Whistler, among many others) all in walking distance, as well as coffee houses (Intelligentsia, Leticia's, New Wave and Starbucks) and a handful of small independent shops and movie theater. In summer, the Logan Square Farmers Market runs every Sunday from 10 am to 3 pm, and is a very short stroll away.
Please NOTE that the neighborhood is hip and "upcoming," but it is NOT in the heart of activity for a tourist/visitor to Chicago. Downtown and the lakefront is 3 miles away. To get to the north side neighborhoods requires a cab ride or bus/train combo travel.
:: Important basics ::
- Accommodates four people only.
- On-street PARKING is easily available and free (it requires a neighborhood permit which is provided).
- In summer, a window unit air conditioner cools the place down.
- You are welcome to enjoy the front patio and a shared backyard with Weber Grill/BBQ.
- There is a radio/docking station for your iPhone/iPod.
- Yes, towels are provided.
- No dishwasher (sorry).
- No pets. No exceptions.
- No TV set.
- Again, it is an English Garden apartment AT GROUND LEVEL so it doesn't get a ton of sunlight (just don't want anyone to be disappointed), but large windows and good light fixtures work to combat that.
:: The "Hotelier" ::
I live upstairs in a separate apartment and am available for anything you need during your stay (directions, recommendations, etc.), but I will generally be invisible unless you need me -- or run into me gardening in the back yard! Honestly, I just want this to be a cool and accommodating getaway for visitors who wish to experience Chicago as a local would! That being said, I want to know a little about your travel style in your profile to help assure this is a good fit for your needs.
:: Guests We Like ::
The guests we like are respectful, tread-lightly types who are easy to get a hold of, can follow a couple of simple rules, and clean up after themselves. They are not put off by an urban environment and generally appreciate the arts, culture and good food. They hang wet towels to dry, do not leave a sink full of dirty dishes and they leave a review shortly after their stay.
Thanks for reading. I look forward to hearing from you.

Our stay in Chicago at Sarah's place was great! She left us bagels, cream cheese and orange juice, which was really nice to have, along with all her great restaurant and neighbourhood recommendations. If you stay here in the winter, it is a bit chilly because it's a garden apartment, but you have your own thermostat and lots of cozy blankets. I bet this place would be extra great in the summer months when the backyard could be of use. Great place, and Logan Square is a great neighbourhood to be in if you are like us and enjoy being a bit away from the downtown crowd.
Sarah was a fantastic host! The apartment was really clean and decorated to our tastes. The location was great for our needs, being close to our friends who live in Avondale. Sarah put together a wonderful binder full of restaurant info in the area and was kind enough to leave breakfast items for us. We would definitely stay here again.
Great spot, tastefully decorated.
Clean, lovely space and conveniently located.
My husband and I had a great four night stay at Sarah's. Sarah is attentive to every detail in furnishing and stocking the apartment, as well as surprising us with a gift basket of treats, juice, and wine as well as a basket of delicious muffins that supplied us for the weekend. With 2 bedrooms we had plenty of space, although with the book of suggestions and map Sarah provided, we spent most of our time exploring the area. This is a fully equipped apartment with available on-street parking in a quiet neighborhood near mass transit and many restaurants. We would hope to return when we next visit Chicago!
Sarah's place was amazing. A great find. She baked for us during our stay! Banana bread and pumpkin muffins! With chocolate and walnuts! Exclamation points!
The space is definitely well put together. Really comfortable beds. Nice warm comforters. Clean design. Even a couple of plants. And thankfully no television set. Way better than any hotel.
We visited in the midst of a cold snap in late November, and the apartment had a little bit of a draft at night. But I don't think it really affected us in anyway. The furnace in the kitchen was super warm, and we just tended to sit in there to socialize.
Oh! And there is a really detailed listing of all the local eateries, with menus and maps and phone numbers. Really really helpful!
If you stay here, I highly recommend Maza Azul for their tequila, and Quesadilla La Reina Del Sur for their veggie/vegan Mexican food. Also, get yourself an unlimited ride Ventra pass (1 or 3 or 7 days) -- the train is convenient for getting around, and the unlimited pass makes it easy.
Sarah was so helpful and the apartment is lovely, wonderfully designed, and comfortable. Choose this place!
Sarah's apartment was absolutely perfect for our visit to Chicago. Charming, comfortable and incredibly well equipped with supplies and information for finding our way around the neighborhood. Wonderful restaurants nearby and convenient access to the EL Blue line. it was exactly what we were looking for.
Clean and convenient, tastefully decorated, well equipped kitchen, easy access to lots of GOOD food places and transportation, in a very very cool part of the city. What more could you ask for????
We had such a great time staying in Sarah's lovely flat! She left all kinds of sweet extras (coffee, bagels, binder full of restaurant recommendations, hair dryer, etc), and the place was warm, clean, and totally inviting. It was a wonderful experience all around. Thanks so much, Sarah!
