:: Hi there and welcome to my listing! ::
It's my third year of being an AirBNB host, and I can't wait to share Chicago with you! A newly renovated modern bathroom and full kitchen await you, and the Logan Square neighborhood just keeps getting better and better. Get yourself over here!
This two-bedroom, one-bath cozy ground-level apartment makes a great home base from which to explore hip Logan Square's restaurants, coffee houses and farmers market as well as a perfect point of departure for the rest of Chicago.
- 10-minute walk to/from the Logan Square Blue Line el station
- 40-minute train ride from O'Hare
- 25-minute train ride to downtown
:: Important basics ::
- Accommodates four people maximum, but can be COZY for four adults.
- On-street PARKING is easily available and free (it requires a neighborhood permit which is provided).
- In summer, a window unit air conditioner cools the place down.
- You are welcome to enjoy the front patio and a shared backyard with Weber Grill/BBQ.
- There is a radio/docking station for your iPhone/iPod.
- Yes, towels are provided.
- No dishwasher (sorry).
- No pets. No exceptions.
- No TV set.
- Again, it is an English Garden apartment AT GROUND LEVEL so it doesn't get a ton of sunlight, but large windows and good light fixtures work to combat that.
:: IMPORTANT DETAIL::
There is no TV. I do not want you to be disappointed, so if you are an avid TV-watcher, this is not the place for you.
:: The Place ::
It is an English Garden apartment (ground level) in a vintage 3-flat; I live upstairs. The apartment is decorated in a fun vintage modern style with comfort and function foremost. It combines historic charm (wood floors and quirky closets) with 21st-century must-haves (WiFi, every kind of coffee maker possible and shared washer/dryer). Oh, except for a TV; sorry, no TV!
I want you to be comfortable: This means comfortable furniture, good mattresses, great 100% cotton sheets, excellent artwork, well-equipped kitchen, and super clean everything.
:: The Neighborhood ::
Logan Square is very residential but has pockets of great restaurants and bars (Fat Rice, Hachi's Kitchen, Longman & Eagle, Lula Cafe, Masa Azul, Revolution Brewing, Webster's Wine Bar and The Whistler, among others) all in walking distance, as well as coffee houses (Intelligentsia, Letizia's, Gaslight and Starbucks) and a handful of independent shops plus a great movie theater. In summer, the Logan Square Farmers Market runs Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm.
PLEASE NOTE that the neighborhood is hip and "up and coming," but it is NOT in the heart of Chicago tourist attractions (downtown). Downtown and the lakefront are 3 miles away. To get to the north side neighborhoods (Wrigley Field, Lincoln Park Zoo) requires a cab ride or bus/train combo travel.
:: The "Hotelier" ::
I live upstairs in a separate apartment and am available for anything you need (directions, recommendations, etc.), but I will generally be invisible unless you need me. Honestly, I just want this to be a cool and accommodating getaway for visitors who wish to experience Chicago as a local would!
:: Guests We Like ::
The guests we like are respectful, tread-lightly types who are easy to get a hold of, can follow a couple of simple rules, and clean up after themselves. They are not put off by an urban environment and generally appreciate the arts, culture and good food. They hang wet towels to dry, do not leave a sink full of dirty dishes and leave a review shortly after their stay.
*** Please do not make a reservation request until you have completed your profile, including a photo and verifications. That is part of what makes AirBNB a "community," as opposed to staying at a hotel. As well, it gives the hosts a better level of security as we are letting people into our homes and on to our private property. Much appreciated. ***
Thanks for reading. I look forward to hearing from you.
•Check in: 3 pm. You are welcome to drop your bags if you arrive earlier, but I need to know in advance. If we have not communicated otherwise, please call or text me so I know you have arrived and all is well. After 10:30 pm, please text only.
•Check out: 11 am. You may store your bags for up to four hours after that, but please let me know in advance. Call or text (phone number hidden) confirm you have departed.
•Cigarette smoking is allowed on the front patio or back yard. No smoking inside the apartment. Please do not empty ashtrays inside the building.
•No pets please.
My son and I stayed at Sarah's home for our one week stay in Chicago and enjoyed our home away from home during that time. The space is as depicted in the photos, although the lighting in photos makes suite appear brighter in nature than it actually is. The suite itself is found in the bottom floor of her home (more of a basement suite). It was clean and spacious for two. Sarah has guide books, brochures, personal notes, etc. placed throughout the suite to assist you in choosing your destinations while in Chicago. The backyard is a little piece of heaven with one majestic tree providing canopy to an eating/lounging area. We found the wi-fi connection to be poor and this made it difficult to research outings, buy tickets on-line, etc. Overall, we had a great stay and I would not hesitate to recommend this suite to future travellers.
Yes, that's true, it is a garden-level (or ground floor unit) which is mentioned several times in the description. So sorry if your expectations were different.
I do wish you would have let me know about the bad WiFi connection. (I cannot address problems that I do not know about. ;) ) Apologies for the inconvenience. I will test the signal more often from the unit.
Our experience was great. The place was great. Clean and stylish and cozy. We were in a fun neighborhood with plenty to do after a day in the downtown. Sarah was great and accommodating and very professional. We are already planning our next visit . It was positive all around.
We had a fantastic experience at the Logan Square Modern Vintage Garden Apartment. The apartment was clean and beautiful, and we felt very welcome and comfortable here. It worked perfect for our family of 4. The neighborhood was nice and quiet, while also being conveniently close to everything we wanted to do while in Chicago. Thanks Sarah!
We absolutely loved the space and the location. The apartment is even more charming in person and filled with interesting and pleasing design details. Sarah was extremely nice, super responsive, and helpful. I'm obsessed with the rocking chair which I used with my 3 year old each night reading to her from Sarah's small and pristine collection of children's books. The place was extremely clean and our 5 nights there were maybe the best airbnb experience we've had--and we've had lots of great ones. The neighborhood is just beautiful with a great number of really interesting restaurants, bars, and even an independent children's toy boutique.
Sarah's place is great--nice neighborhood, close to the train, clean, nicely finished/decorated. It was a nice stay, and Sarah even met me when I checked in to make sure I had everything I needed.
Thanks--I'll return if I'm back.
Sarah was an excellent host and the apartment is very impressive - incredibly well situated to great eats and drinks! There was plenty of information from Sarah on where to go in the area. Would definitely stay again. Thank you, Sarah!
About the Host, Sarah

I wear many hats, among them interior decorator, writer, corporate marketing veteran, vintage/antique dealer and landlord. I've owned my Logan Square property for more than 11 years and have lived in Chicago on and off for the last 25 with a stint in Washington, DC. I am excited to welcome fellow travelers who like to explore "off the beaten path" and proud to welcome them into my home, which is my pride and joy.
My personal recent travels include a long weekend in Detroit, some great hiking in Park City, Utah, a very long break on Kauai and some urban fun in NYC.
