Set in the heart of our 400 acre certified organic farm, The Coop at Laing Family Farm is a quiet, cozy cottage surrounded by open fields, orchards, and the gentle rhythm of farm life right between Canton and Potsdam. It’s the kind of place where mornings start slowly with coffee on the porch and evenings end under dark, star-filled skies. Perfect for visiting families attending college events, alumni weekends, and campus visits — a quiet place to unwind after a full day.

The space
Inside, The Coop has everything you need for a simple, comfortable stay: a small kitchen and living area, a bedroom, and a full bath. There’s free Wi-Fi and a Roku TV, but most guests find themselves drawn outside — to the rocking chairs, the trails, and the peaceful views.

From the porch you can see our hay fields, orchard, barns, greenhouse, and gardens, all changing with the seasons. In warmer months, enjoy hiking the farm trails; in winter, snowshoe or cross-country ski right from your door. This is a perfect place to unplug, reset, and enjoy the quiet beauty of the countryside.

Guest access
Our guests have access to the area around the Coop and to our hiking trails. The Coop has parking in the driveway that leads to it. The circular driveway continues to the left after The Coop and will lead you back to CR 35.

If you’d like a farm tour to meet all the animals here and learn about life on the farm, we would be happy to show you around - just let us know.

Other things to note
Good to Know: Laing Family Farm is a working beef farm, so for safety we ask that guests stay out of barns and away from machinery unless accompanied by us. While many of our animals are friendly, they can be unpredictable, so meeting them during a guided tour is the safest and most enjoyable way.

Since LFF is a working farm, there are times that the sound of tractors working or cattle talking to each other may be heard.

We enjoy sharing our hiking trails with our guests but please stay on the trails to avoid trespassing on our neighbors’ property and to avoid damage to the vegetation and woods along the paths.

Neighborhood highlights

Our farm is halfway between Canton and Potsdam (10 minutes to each) and just a little over a mile away from Route 11.

There are many hiking trails around to enjoy as well as places to kayak and bike in the summer and cross country ski or snowshoe in the winter.
