Description

The space

The living area has a queen-sized firm bed, TV with DSTV (satellite television including a selection of international channels), broadband wi-fi, wireless speaker (to connect to your smart phone, tablet or laptop) and underfloor heating. The efficiency kitchen has a microwave, fridge, Nespresso coffee machine, kettle and toaster, and crockery and cutlery are provided. Note, there is no stovetop-oven. The bathroom has a shower (there is no bath), underfloor heating and heated towel rails. Linen, towels, and a full set of toiletries are provided.

We provide a selection of teas of the world, Nespresso pods, a bottle of wine, and a breakfast starter pack: muesli, yoghurt, milk, bread, jam, honey, and seasonal fruit. There's also a selection of South African spirits: from an award-winning whiskey to a small-batch grappa from a boutique distillery. Enjoy responsibly! And if there's anything in the vege garden that takes your fancy harvest away.

For a rainy day or if you'd like to stay in there's a selection of board games, and if you play tennis there are public courts just down the street. Ask us for rackets and balls.

The cottage is suitable for a single person or couple. Maximum of two people. We can provide a crib for an infant.

If you don't have any airbnb reviews please tell us a bit about yourself when booking: what you do, what's your reason for visiting Joburg, and the like.

Guest access

There is off-street parking available, and guests have use of the pool, as well as two mountain bikes; and while Joburg isn't geared up for commuter cycling there's a fair amount of recreational biking in the area.

The neighborhood

If your trip allows for it Joburg has more than enough to occupy you for three or four days. So don't just fly in and out of the city!

The property is a mere two blocks from the lively 7th Street with dozens of restaurants, pubs and bars, and boutique shops. So you're close to the action but also sufficiently far away that you'll hear none of it.

The cottage is within walking distance to the University of Johannesburg, SABC, and Johannesburg Country Club, and a short drive to the University of the Witwatersrand, and central Johannesburg. Rosebank is a 10-minute drive and Sandton 20 minutes away.

Getting around

A car is useful to have in Joburg, but not necessary. Many of our guests get around using a combination of taxis, Uber, the Rea Vaya bus service (which runs from nearby to town), and the Gautrain.

Grant was an amazing host, easily accessible and extremly flexible. I liked the cottage so much I extended my visit by 2 days and he worked with me without hesitation. The cottage is very comfortable from the heated bed to heated floors (its winter), kitchen and bathroom are fully stocked, lots of guidebooks, maps and Grant also created a guidebook for visitors. The cottage is close to great restaurants, bars, coffee shops and boutiques. The neighborhood is safe and very quiet. I HIGHLY recommend Grant's cottage. The cottage went above and beyond my expectations! I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Johannesburg!

The cottage is so peaceful and beautiful. The attention to detail and little extras like the breakfast items and drinks are much appreciated. Melville shops and restaurants are an easy walk away and most of the city is an easy drive. Would absolutely stay again!

Grant and Angus' place is a great oasis of calm in Johannesburg - a cute cottage set in a beautiful sunny garden. The welcome pack of goodies was much appreciated as was both hosts' care and attention. Heartily recommended!

Beautiful cottage in a safe neighborhood within walking distance to shop and restaurants. Grant has thought of everything. The "cottage bible", as I call it, has everything you need to know about the surrounding area, places to eat and services nearby. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it for anyone (or couple) looking stay in Jo'Burg.

Our 2 days stay in Johannesburg started with a very warm welcome. The lovely garden cottage was absolutely satisfying; very well equipped, stylish and clean. The beautiful garden and the pool are perfect to have a rest. Melville is a safe area to walk around with a lot of restaurants, bars and shops in walking distance. Grant is an excellent host, it was a pleasure to meet him. We could say, that we had a perfect stay. Thank you so much and hope to see you soon.

Beautiful cottage in a great area. Loads of cool bars and restaurants right round the corner. Brilliantly stocked kitchenette and bathroom and the furnishings were great. Grant and Angus excellent hosts with great suggestions of things to do in Joburg.

Wonderful small cottage in a nice, quiet area sufficiently close to the city center and other important locations within Joburg. In walking distance of useful shops as well as lively and hip cafés and restaurants. A beautiful garden with a shady terras and even a small pool and pooldeck allows you to have a wonderful day in the city even without having to leave the premises. This is really an apartment to feel comfortable and at home at during your stay. All the more as the hosts are truly welcoming and nice people.
