Unique property in the historic centre of the Village of Sintra, just a stone throw away from major attractions, museums and restaurants.
This property is a large, open-plan, newly-refurbished one bedroom flat in the heart of historic Sintra. It is situated 150 meters from the National Palace in a quiet largo (cul-de-sac) with space for parking (first-come, first-serve). The location means that everything historic Sintra has to offer is within a few minutes walk. Handily, the bus stop to the Pena Palace and Moorish Castle is less than a hundred meters away. We've found that it's also a great base for exploring the greater Lisbon area, including the famous beaches of Cascais and Estoril and the surrounding Parque Natural de Sintra-Cascais. Lisbon itself is a half-hour drive away (40 minutes by train) and as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe is well worth a visit.
The ground floor of the flat is comprised of a living-room, dining area and kitchen as well as a tiled outdoor patio. The kitchen is fully-fitted with modern appliances, including a fridge/freezer, microwave, electric oven/stove and dishwasher. It has also been stocked with all necessary smaller appliances such as a hand-held blender, electric kettle, toaster and coffee-press. You will also find a wide selection of cookware and tableware. The living-room has a television, DVD player and iPod player. The sofa also folds out into a double bed.
The large bedroom and en-suite bathroom take up the entire lower-ground floor. In the bedroom you will find a king-size bed, clothes rack and chest of drawers. We have also included a room divider so if you're sharing the flat you can retain privacy while allowing access to the bathroom for those sleeping upstairs. There's also a small study area with desk packed full of guides to local attractions which you're welcome to use during your stay. The bathroom is fitted with a new shower and toilet as well as a modern washer, modern dryer and linen closet.
Guests will have exclusive access to the entire property and all amenities.
We do not get to interact with guests as we live in the UK. Alex, our property manager, will be your main point of contact. He will be in charge of check-in and coming to your rescue in the unlikely event that something goes wrong at the property. Alex has lived in the area all his life and runs a local family business, meaning he is extremely knowledgeable about Sintra and how it has changed over time. If there is something in particular you would like to go, ask him during check-in and he will be able to point you in the right direction.
Located in the heart of historic Sintra, the flat is perfect for enjoying everything this UNESCO world heritage site has to offer. In fact, you will be staying within a historic square, just meters from the house of one of modern Portugal's founding fathers and the hotel where Lord Byron used to stay. Restaurants, bars and palaces are all within a short walk. You can enjoy Sintra during the night, when most tourists go back to Lisbon and you get the place all to yourselves. Photographing it in the middle of the night or early sunrise is one of our favourite things to do.
There is plenty of public transport, including the train from Lisbon and local buses that will take you to nearby villages, large towns and over a dozen beaches to chose from. In summer you can also ride a 100-year-old tram to enjoy Sintra's romantic spirit to the fullest. The town of Colares, the first one to ever export Portuguese wine, is just a stone throw away and is well worth a visit for a sumptuous lunch and wine tasting.
There is parking outside the property - fist come, first serve. A public parking lot nearby also offers lots of free parking spots in case our cul-de-sac is full, which can happen during July and August.
If traveling directly from the airport, you can drive to the property (IC-19 about half an hour in total), take a taxi or public transport, connecting with the Metro at Rossio to the train into Sintra.
ONCE YOUR BOOKING IS CONFIRMED, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU READ THE HOUSE MANUAL, DIRECTIONS AND NEIGHBOURHOOD GUIDE THOROUGHLY AS THESE CONTAIN ESSENTIAL INFORMATION, INCLUDING CHECK-IN ARRANGEMENTS.
We LOVED this place! The apartment is well equipped with everything you need and in the perfect location - only a 2 minute walk to the center of this charming town. There were 3 of us and plenty of space and the shower is wonderful! Communication was excellent as were the recommendations and directions. Thank you!
lovely little apartment in the middle of Sintra close to bus, train, shops, castles, and many good reasturants. Very comfortable beds and nice bathroom with washer dryer. quiet neighborhood with a great kitchen for cooking. Loved everything about this little place.
We just spent a glorious 6 days in Sintra (Nov.9-15, 2013). The weather was perfect and the accommodation in a great location down a steep little street next to the main tourism office in Sintra. a euro 5.6 taxi ride solved the luggage problem, as the streets are cobbled and very hard on the suitcase wheels. Everything is within walking distance, and all the buses run from right beside the tourism office. The #434 does a loop up to Moorish Castle and Pena Palance for $5euros, the #435 goes to Monserrate for 2euros return, and the #433 goes into new Sintra, if you need it. There are 2 little mini-food markets, within a block or two of Casa Rosa, and a butcher up by the train station. All were surprisingly hard to find, before you knew where they were. The tourism office lady is not very helpful.
Our hosts were very responsive in organizing the stay and the little house is well set up, especially for 2 people. The kitchen is especially well equipped. The double bed is downstairs, and defiinitely needs a new thick mattress pad, as the bed is very uncomfortable without it. We solved that quickly by just putting the comforter under the bottom sheet. We highly recommend buying a combined ticket with the Pena Palace and the Moorish Castle.
quite a few restaurants are on the low street past the Municipal Hall which is in a little square after you walk along the low road that has the statues.
Overall Casa Rosa is a great place to stay; a really nice apartment in a fantastic location. From the moment we made our reservation, Chris and Jimena were always extremely helpful. We traveled with our 3 month old baby and they were always very responsive to all our many questions. Parking was the largest of two issues we had that kept us from giving our stay at Casa Rosa a 5-star rating. A neighbor verbally admonished us on a daily basis, sometimes in the middle of the night, offering condemnations for our lack of fluency in Portuguese and how we incorrectly parked our car (so as to facilitate his two full-sized cars!). This points out how difficult it was to park a full-size station wagon in this lovely cul-de-sac. The only other issue was the odd lighting arrangement that kept a light flooding the downstairs bedroom whenever the kitchen lights were turned on upstairs. We did have a flood under the front door and in the bathroom due to extremely rainy weather. We cleaned up the front door flood on our own, and Alex came immediately and fixed the source (plugged drain) of the bathroom flood and even cleaned it up without waking us from our jetlag naps. Overall, Casa Rosa was really nice, and we would definitely recommend it to others.
This place is fantastic! The village is lovely and this apartment is fully equipped and only 100metres (or less?) from the main square. We stayed four nights.....parked the car and left it there. We were tired and enjoyed chilling out where we could take short walks to food, since we were not cooking. We did go to Lisbon on the train and caught the local bus to Pena palace and the moorish castle. The bed was comfortable and the shower GREAT!!!!!
A word of warning, though. Take careful note of instructions provided by the host if driving. We were a bit blasé so late in our travels and our GPS took us to the wrong spot. This caused embarrassment as Alex was kept waiting. If you follow the instructions all will be well.
One of our best Airbnb finds!
The flat was awesome with all appliances in excellent condition and master bed is great condition. The hosts were very helpful, communicative and accommodative. The flat was right in the middle of historic Sintra and surrounded by hotels. Would definitely stay here when visiting Sintra next time.
We loved staying at Chris and Jimena's place. The pictures are exactly as it looks. We enjoyed resting on the patio each afternoon after a day of hiking and exploring Sintra. Chris and Jimena responded to our emails and questions right away. Alex meet us when we arrive right on time, showed us around the apartment and was very helpful. We would highly recommend Chris and Jimena's place it was perfectly located, very clean and a comfortable bed. Thanks again hope to return someday
Chris & Jimena were great. A small issue came up with the air mattress having a small leak and they solved it instantly. Much appreciated! Very convenient and quiet location. Great for day trips and evening saunters around Sintra.
This apartment is wonderfully central to restaurants and palaces. It is beautifully clean and is fully equipped in every way. Would definitely stay here again. Perfect!
Chris & Jimena's place was perfect! It looks just like in the pictures, and is supplied with everything you need. We met Chris & Jimena as they happened to be staying in the house just before us, and they are really nice hosts. Also, the location is great! SO close to all the main streets in the historic center, but down a little road so you are away from the crowds. Easy walk to Quinta da Regularia -- that was our favorite place of all that we visited. Lots of fun for the kids to explore. And not far from Pena Palace -- we took a cab as it was cheaper for the four of us, but the bus stop is right at the end of the street. We ate at Tuhlas, just up the street from the apartment and also had a great meal at Lawrences Hotel. No doubt you will be happy with your stay if you pick this place! Thanks Chris & Jimena!
