The Space

One large south-facing bedroom with four windows and a queen bed. Mostly private full bath next to bedroom, may be shared by one other guest. Ideal location to really enjoy the friendly, creative, intelligent and networked community that is the Berkshires. You can walk to the town of Lee which has restaurants and cafes, and is on the local or long distance bus routes. Close to Kripalu (6 miles) and in the summer so many great venues including Tanglewood, Berkshire Theatre, Shakespeare and Company, Jacob's Pillow. Great outdoor activities include hiking, biking, skiing and many cultural events in the small towns of the Berkshires. High speed wireless, on street parking, and limited access to kitchen. Home is quiet, bright, 114 years old with "character" and a happy vibe:) I am easy going, have traveled and like meeting new people. Washer, dryer, dishwasher in home and a great wood-burning stove! Breakfast not included. Please note there are steps up from the street, then more steps to the house, and then a staircase to the bedroom:)

Guest Access

Living room, porch, yard and limited access to kitchen, washer/dryer, and fridge.

Interaction with Guests

Generally, I am at work Monday to Friday during the day, so you may need to let yourself in and we will connect by phone, or in person later.

The Neighborhood

Lee has a small town, community feeling and is great for walking and exploring. Some new restaurants, cafes and even a micro brewery pub have recently opened. Close to Mass Pike exit 2. Neighbourhood is very safe!

Getting around

Limited local bus service. The long-distance bus stop is only one block away and there is twice daily service to Boston and NYC.

Other Things to Note

Close to Lee Volunteer Fire Department and occasionally siren can be heard when they are called up. Parking is on the opposite side of street or in nearby neighbour's driveway. Home is on a hill with two sets of steps to access. Access to table and chairs in the garden.

  • Margaret was a very considerate and thoughtful host as she communicated with us the time that the room would be available to when she would be away during our arrival. She also provided some pamphlets and foldouts that showcased the attractions in the Berkshires. The room and house were nicely furnished and comfortable for a summer stay. There is also a patio table out in the backyard with umbrella for outdoor lounging. Overall, another weekend stay at her house would be most welcome.

  • We enjoyed our stay. The room was one of two in a separate area of the house. As there was another guest in the other room, we shared the bathroom, which was no problem at all.

Our Hostess, Margaret, was most helpful and accommodating and should we stay in the area again, we will certainly consider returning here.

  • Margaret was a delightful hostess. Even though a weeknight, she was flexible with our arrival time. We were sad that we didn't have more chance to chat with her as we arrived late and she was off to work early next morning. Her home is lovingly cared for; the bedroom and bath were almost their own wing. She clearly understands the needs of travelers as everything was thought of - which we will really appreciated. We'll be delighted to return to her place when we are next in the area. We highly recommend it! The only downside for some will be you do need to walk some street stairs and stairs in the home - but if you can do stairs, it's worth it! Those stairs were worth it, as you can leave your car there and walk to town for breakfast and shopping!

    Response from Margaret:

Sharon thank you for your lovely review! The siren is part of the Lee Volunteer Fire Dept and not a usual event - you just had bad luck to have your sleep interrupted - but a good reminder for me to warn folks about. Enjoy your summer, and your retirement, Margaret

  • Margaret is a wonderfully congenial and conscientious host with a lovely house and A+ communication. The room was perfect: comfortable, spotless, private. A desk with convenient outlets was a real plus for me. Thank you, Margaret!

  • This stay was amazing. Even the toilet paper was the softest ever. Margaret has thought of everything...from fresh flowers in my room to wifi. Margaret's home is so lovely, and you really have what feels like a separate little wing. Room was really large, and I felt like I was in a get away. She was also the most reasonably priced. Will only stay here if I come back to the area.

  • I can't say enough nice things about Margaret and her house.

The two bedrooms are located in the back of her property with a curtain to afford a modicum of privacy. The rooms themselves have very comfortable beds and are nice and cozy. The downstairs space is comfortable and open, with a wood-burning stove for added coziness in the winter.

I stayed with my two girls for a ski weekend at nearby Ski Butternut. After my daughter hurt her ankle on the first day, Margaret provided us with an ice pack and was very accommodating as I brought in takeout for dinner.

All in all, a great experience with a delightful host. Highly recommended.

  • The stay with Margaret was wonderful! Her house was lovely with a porch that you can relax in. The view from the bedroom was also beautiful.
The location of the house was perfect for what I needed to do. It was walking distance to the bus stop, a short drive to Becket, Lenox or Stockbridge.
    Margaret was a charming hostess!

  • This was my first time staying at a place booked though Airbnb and the overall experience was above and beyond my expectations!

Margaret was the perfect host - communicative, helpful and gracious. She had prepared the rental room beautifully for my arrival, complete with fresh-cut hydrangeas from her garden on the dresser. Her home is clean, spacious and well-decorated. A dream vacation home!

  • Margaret was a wonderful host. We didn't spend much time together, but she was very kind. She drove me to a train station the day I left and was a very kind person. I would recommend her place. It was clean and in spite of walking up a hill and stairs outside, her house was
    inviting and interesting.

About
Originally from London, I grew up in Dublin and have lived in the US for 30 years. In my twenties, I travelled widely and at times it feels like coming full circle as the culture and people of the Berkshires remind me of Dublin. I work as a hospice nurse and am very grateful for good friends and community.
