FOR THE SMOKERS - possible to smoke outside on the covered balconies, not in the flat. Smoking with a view and ventilated - what can be better? ;-)
HELIPORT 1 - between Utopia and History.
This area has a glorious past as a place for "rendez-vous" of the elegant society of the Capital (Leopold the 1st - first Belgian King - did here his "Joyeuse Entree" in 1830) and has lived a succession of utopias starting with the construction of the first public European train station in 1835. A century later the traveling traffic slew down and the station was closed, making room for the Second Utopia. On the occasion of the Brussels Universal Expo of 58, the Sabena Heliport is build in the city center: on March 3 1957, the first European passenger helicopter takes off until 1966. Following the closure of the heliport, this area is abandoned for a few years, but in 1989, another utopia see the day here : the only animal farm in a city center opens its door.
It is today part of North/Canal/Thurn & (email hidden) shared by theaters, clubs, expos, leisure and new homes.
The whole appartement.
A stone trough form the busy center with easy access to all parts of the city via bikes, metro, tram bus and train to the rest of Belgium or airport...
Metro station Yser 250 meters away, North train station 15' walk...
Other Things to Note
Have been living there and sharing the place via Airbnb, had great guests to whom I had great contact with. Place has a rough edge with a mix of objects and images I love... Its lived, orginal and comfortable.
Simple respect of the flat and the neighbors, leaving the place clean and tidy as it was at your arrival is always appreciated. A full cleaning of the flat gets done professionally once a week.
FOR THE SMOKERS - possible on the covered balconies, not in the flat. Smoking with a view and ventilated - what can be better? ;-)
It is my home and I really like it, hope you do also and respect it as it was yours ;-)
This is an unbelievable apartment and awesome place to base yourself for exploring Brussels. 4 of us stayed here in great comfort. The views are amazing with a balcony on both sides of the apartment. The stereo system is impressive, coffee / bar superb and all the furniture is great. We loved it and many thanks to Jean for letting us stay.
The listing was very accurate.
Jean was a wonderful host. Unfortunately we weren´t able to meet him during our stay, but he kept in contact with us throughout our time there. His lovely friend Mo checked us in and gave us some good recommendations of places to eat. The flat is absolutely gorgeous. It is very cozy and has everything you could need. We felt like we were staying at a friend´s place while they were away. The views are amazing and the flat is well located. You have the metro right on the corner, you are 15-20 mintues walking from the center (5-10 from Sainte Catherine) and there is a little farm in front of the building that you can visit for free! I would highly recommend Jean´s place to anyone staying in Brussels.
Jean's apartment was wonderful! Fantastic views of the city and great amenities in the flat. The city centre was easily accessible via uber. Jean left great recommendations of things to do and events occurring that weekend. Great place!
We had a wonderful time staying at Jean's high-rise flat. He has put lots of thought and creative energy into furnishing and decorating the space and it is well-appointed with everything a traveler might need. I especially appreciated the non-traditional guidebooks on Brussels -- they helped us find places we never would have heard about otherwise. Recommended!
My boyfriend and I stayed at Jean's beautiful flat in Brussels for five nights. We had an amazing time and if we came back to Brussels we would want to stay here again!
Jean was really helpful and communicative when we were arranging check-in, and was happy to facilitate the timings we asked for. As he was not available when we checked in, he arranged for a friend to meet us. He also left us lots of helpful info for getting around Brussels and books/maps with good places to visit.
We thought the flat itself was a really beautiful space and were very inspired by the decor and the amazing views over Brussels. From the living room you can see South into the centre, and from the bedrooms you can see North towards the Atomium. Aside from that, Jean's flat also has a brilliant shower, a kitchen with good cooking facilities, a massive comfy sofa and lots of interesting books. We spent a lot of time in the flat itself because it was such a nice place to hang out!
The only downside to the flat is that the area around the building is not so nice, and perhaps I wouldn't recommend it to a female travelling alone as there were some men hanging around outside the building after dark. This might just be the look of the place, though, as we did not have any problems all week, and once you are inside the building you forget about the outside. There is also a metro station literally a minute's walk from the flat, so it is very easy to travel around (and walking into the centre only takes 15 minutes).
All in all a really beautiful place and we would love to come back again. Thanks Jean!
Thanks for the lovely review and the little present left home :-) I am really happy your enjoyed your stay and the flat. Concerning the the young people hanging out downstairs, most of them live in the building and they are armless. I am currently in contact with the neighbourhood to find a project for them, not an easy one but interesting challenge for youngster living in the city and not very interested in their future. Again, was lovely to be in contact with you and next time, lets meet. Have a great start of 2015. All the best. Jean
A magic place..first impression from outside not very positive, but living in Jean'S Home leave us a very good sensaption.
Great panorama, all comfort and a lot of wonderful books.
I did'nt met Jean, but I can say he was present for our questions and similars.
