I spent over two weeks in Shanghai at Polly’s place – first in the big, then in the small room – and I had a good time there. The flat is very conveniently located and Polly is a great host. She answered my emails really fast and picked me up at the subway station when I arrived. The 3BR apartment generally is rather clean; exceptions can be found in the bathrooms (e.g. mould-infested ceiling) and the kitchen (e.g. dirty refrigerator).
The big room is quite spacious (around 30sqm), offers a nice view, is equipped with a king-size bed and a TV and has its own small bathroom. Due to the limited insulation of the building it was very cold, but Polly provided a heater, hot-water bottles and she even bought electric blankets for all the beds while I was there.
Polly and her daughter Qingqing are very kind, warm-hearted and helpful people. They invited me several times to share their meal, took me to Qingqing’s dancing performance in the neighbourhood during the New Year festivities and helped me right away when an ATM had swallowed my credit card. Thanks to my hosts, I have learnt a lot about the Chinese culture. So if you would like to get a glimpse on real life in China and you are fine with a no frills accommodation, I can definitely recommend this place. Thanks Polly!
Great host! Very helpful all around on how to get there, picking us up at the metro station and giving us tips for going around the area.
Room is very big and comfortable, with private bathroom!
Absolutely recommended when visiting Shanghai.
We had a great stay. Thank you Polly and her daughter.
Really friendly and a great place to stay! Was very accommodating for both my mom and I and made sure I knew when my mom came (she arrived first).
Polly is a great host. She was very friendly and she answered the many small questions I had about how to get around and other stuff. Her daughter was also very sweet.
The room is a spacious, clean and comfortable, part of a two bedroom apartment. I had a good stay. I recommend this place for anyone looking for a basic but comfortable room close to the metro station and French consession area in shanghai. Thanks Polly.
Polly was a wonderful host, she was really helpful at pointing out places I could go and things worth seeing. I spent one afternoon with her and her daughter visiting the Shanghai Glass Museum, which is definitely somewhere I wouldn't have gone without her help so I really appreciated it. Her apartment is big and clean, and in a very convenient location.
Amazing location. Fantastic value. But most importantly, the things you can't ever pay for, getting to know others people in Shanghai. The helpful attention and support from our host Polly to the lovely greetings of her daughter. Suggestions from other travelers thanks to introductions from Polly. Most of the delights of Shanghai came from these personal encounters.
Leaving Polly's place makes me sad. Oui, triste de partir...
Polly and her daughter have been special hosts. So kind and considerate, so helpful and with interesting advice.
I took advantage of the high quality teacher Polly is to get my feet into Mandarin. She is a real pro and will take in consideration your wishes. I've taken the opportunity to learn about the city she knows so well and how to get around, having learned the pronunciation of the street names.
The accommodation part is simple and very comfortable. The location great to get around. I will come back any time. Highly recommended.
We booked the stay for four nights but moved out the second day. Here are a few things for others who want to book the stay to note. Polly was nice and helpful. She was well-organized and had business cards with her address and a map of the area the apartment building is printed for her guests. The location is great. However this was probably the only few good things that I can say about her place. Polly's place was a typical Chinese apartment. The place was not well maintained, AC was not on when we checked in (it was hot in Shanghai even in late August). The apartment does have AC, however, if it's not turned on, or just turned on in one room, the whole place would still be hot. The master bathroom could have some work done to it. Paint on the ceiling was peeling. Shower curtain needs cleaning. I will think twice next time I book a Chinese apartment.
