The space

Hat Hill Cottage a standalone eco cottage set amongst scribbly gums surrounded by the Blue Mountains National Park. The two bedroom cottage easily accommodates a family or 2 couples.

It is a purpose built environmentally friendly mud-brick lodge with slow combustion fire with fantastic views across the National Park. The cottage is right by some of the most beautiful walks in the Blue Mountains – including Cliff Top Walk and Pulpit Rock. It is just a 5 minute drive to great cafes, gourmet restaurants, galleries and shops of Blackheath, 10 minutes to Leura & Katoomba, and within walking distance of the magnificent vistas of the Grose Valley and depths of the Grand Canyon.

The cottage is popular with couples looking for a quiet break, small groups needing a base for outdoor activities, girls pampering weekends and also families looking for a few days away from it all.

There is a queen bed in the main bedroom. The 2nd bedroom can be configured as a two single beds, or as a huge king sized bed. And there is a room for a fifth guest on the comfortable lounge. We also have a portacot for the little ones.

* Ambience *
The cottage will undoubtedly impress with cathedral ceilings and a sense of being connected to the bush. Native scribbly gum woodland is all you’ll see from most windows. You’ll feel the seclusion and privacy from the moment you arrive at the property, ensuring the perfect relaxing break. You will keep cosy with gas heating, a real log fire and electric blankets. The cottage has an open plan lounge/dining area, a full kitchen (including dishwasher, mircowave), inside toilet & shower, and is completely self-contained. The cottage has a TV & DVD.

* What to Do *
This is a great location to base the best Blue Mountains bushwalks from - explore the awesome Grose valley and Blue Gum forest, mountain bike from the front door or walk to many of the spectacular lookouts.

Blackheath is also a popular rock climbing destination. The Grose Valley and Centennial Glen are great starting points but there are many other climbing areas locally. There are over 100kms of mountain biking trails and bushwalks starting at the front door. There are four golf courses with 20 a minute drive, including Blackheath, Katoomba and Leura.

Children are most welcome, but we cannot allow any pets, as wallabies & 'roos with their joeys are frequent visitors to the property. Please note that the cottage has stairs, so small children will need to be supervised.

Please note that there is a two night booking requirement for weekends. One night stays are usually fine for the rest of the week.

Guest access

You have exclusive use of the whole cottage. You'll park right outside the door.

Interaction with guests

After you've let yourself in, we usually wander up and welcome you with a quick 5 minute chat, and then leave you to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere.

You are of course very welcome to get in touch with us throughout your stay, but we won't disturb you.

The neighborhood

Blackheath is still a quiet village - it doesn't have the weekend crowds of some of the other more touristy villages. The village has loads of character and charm - your visit will feel relaxed.

The cottage is located on the edge of Blackheath - five minutes from the station. There are a dozen great cafes and excellent restaurants, and two pubs that serve meals. Blackheath is renowned for its galleries, craft studios and artisans, including a glass blowers studio, a jewelry gallery, an antiques emporium to browse, and many local artists who display their work around the village. Not forgetting the markets days on the 1st & 2nd Sunday of the month - get there early!

And further afield it is only a ten minute drive (or a short train or bus ride) to the more touristy towns of Katoomba and Leura. There you’ll find larger supermarkets, interesting Cultural Centre and Art Gallery, the Scenic Railway and Three Sisters. Leura is famous for its gardens, galleries, boutiques and cafes. Also locally is horse riding, abseiling and canyoning. In the other direction are the spectacular Jenolan Caves and Mt Tomah Gardens. The mountains has a huge variety of attractions – something for everyone.

Getting around

Train station is a 5 minute drive away with taxis () available in the village. And the bushwalks start right on the doorstep.

Other things to note

Let us know if you want us to provide linen/towels at a cost of $25 per bed. You're very welcome to bring your own, or even bring sleeping bags for the kids. We provide doonas, pillows & electric blankets, so you only need to bring a fitted sheet, a flat sheet & pillow slips, along with a bath towel.

We also have a portacot for the little ones.

Please note that the cottage has stairs, so small children will need to be supervised.

We had a wonderful two-night stay. Beautiful bush location and a wonderful, cosy and spotlessly clean cottage.

A wonderful place deep in the bush. Although the main house is within sight, the cottage felt private. The rooms were spacious and clean and we appreciated helpful touches, like olive oil and a good selection of pots and pans in the kitchen. We thoroughly recommend the walk to Pulpit's Head.

A great and cosy place to stay. We loved the fact that Keith built the cottage himself.

I had a blissful stay at the cottage. It was beautifully located in nature and was whisper-quiet. It had everything I needed - firewood for the first night and nice little touches like blankets and candles. It was only five minutes from Blackheath village and a perfect base to explore the Blue Mountains area.

Our family loves the environment that the Blue Mountains provides. We enjoy the local bushwalks, the serenity, the vistas and the wildlife. And we're happy to share it with you.

We have lived in Blackheath area for almost twenty years now and have an excellent knowledge of all things Blue Mountains. From the local bushwalks, to the arts, growing food and cooking are my passions.

We volunteer in local organisations and this helps to ensure we are a part of the local community. We keep chickens and a large veggie garden (this year we've planted lots of garlic and shallots to share with our co-op), a small orchard and have recently planted hazelnut trees.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any queries - we will gladly answer any questions you have about Blackheath, bushwalking or our cottage :) And welcome to Blackheath and the Blue Mountains!
