After the tone of your final note upon leaving, the extensive negative observations you made following your visit came as something of a surprise. In particular, I am surprised at your criticism of the grounds. You asked for, and were sent, photos of the back yard. It is also described in the rental listing. "Pleasant Bay views" are not promised and should not have been expected. The pictures showed no grill back there. Perhaps the problem arose from the listing description (not written by me): "Outside, the back of the cottage faces conservation land and there is an outside dining table and charcoal grill to enjoy summer meals outdoors as well as an outdoor shower." The grill, chairs, and table are always in the front (which is why you found them there and why I asked you to return the chairs there.) I'll ask Margaux to make this clearer in the listing description. In all the years we have rented the cottage, no one has sought to use the back in the extensive way you did. (An indication of that is your finding a shrub where you sought to access the back of the cottage.)
When we renovated the cottage, we were required by the Conservation Commission to submit a planting/restoration plan which is still monitored by the Conservation Commission. We have to have their permission to remove anything previously growing on the property (trees, bushes, etc.) as well as all of the newly planted material contained in that plan--including the offending shrub.
I am sorry that you did not mention the problem with the fridge. (I have asked the people who are there now about it, and they say that it is fine.) If you had/will let me know how much your ice cream cost, I would have been/will be happy to reimburse you.
Better communication all around would have been helpful.
I am sorry that we did not live up to your expectations, it is the first review that is negative about the cottage.
