About this listing
This house really is 10 minutes from everything - the airport, downtown, east Austin, Zilker, and South Congress. If you want to retreat away from the crowds at night and don't want to get lost during the day this is the spot for you.
Come stay at a Mid-Century Modern inspired urban homestead conveniently located in South Austin just east of I35 and north of HWY 71(Ben White). 2 bedrooms sleep up to 4 people comfortably. Stay for a few nights or up to six months. The bedrooms are full of natural light and the view of trees from the windows. Each room has a closet and a dresser/drawers for storage. The bathroom is simple, small and clean with a tub and shower surrounded by white tile. There are shelves in the bathroom cabinet for storing personal toiletries. The kitchen is sufficient, stocked with enough tools to do some simple cooking. I am working on equipping the kitchen better, let me know if you have suggestions! You can do your laundry in the laundry room right outside of the front door.
Located in South Austin in between Oltorf and Hwy 71 on Burleson. It is a short drive to SoCo, SoLa, downtown, the airport and the Barton Creek Greenbelt. There are plenty of restaurants and grocery stores nearby. Hai Ky and 888Cafe are in walking distance. There are 4 grocery stores within 4 miles: Central Market, HEB, Sprouts, Wheatsville and a Randall's. We have a great neighborhood liquor store and pool hall. Oat Willie's is also right up the street.
This location is really best suited to those with a car. I have had guests walk to the bus stops and not find it too inconvenient. There are 3 different bus routes within 1/4 mile of a walk. One takes you downtown in about 10 minutes, the other 2 take you across town - one of those goes up Oltorf and crosses South Congress, South First and South Lamar.

As the host of ATx BnB, I want to make your experience as pleasant and trouble-free as possible. Here are some things I expect of each guest:
- no smoking inside
- no unregistered guests
- no heavy scents used in the bedrooms or the laundry
Sheila was a very accommodating host. The house was nice and clean upon arrival with all the necessities provided. House has a keypad to let you inside which is very convenient-no worries about how to meet up to receive keys. Sheila was great about being quickly available and responds promptly. We had contact with her for both the check in and check out time, with her making sure we had no questions for either. It was a very smooth stay and I would definitely recommend her as a host to anyone!
Two friends and I (traveling with a dog) rented this house for three nights, and it was a pleasant experience from the moment we stepped in the door. The house is very comfortable and cozy, conveniently located, and usually very quiet. Sheila was very fast to respond to our request and to facilitate check-in.
I hope to stay here again the next time we're in Austin (:
Sheila sent us an email to let us know her friend had taken their art.
Shiela also requested a later check in time as her current guests had some confusion about Check out and were still occupying the house. Luckily we were not in a hurry. So it wasn't a problem.
The house itself looked almost nothing like the pictures. Most of the accessories that were
in the pictures were not there. As well as other furnishings, rugs, plants etc.
The one bed was so bad we had to take the mattress off to sleep on the floor.
The place was ok we slept okay.
The roosters next door crows all day.neighbor hood was far from down town. It didn't appear very secure.
Shiela came to the shining rescue when we needed a baby sitter. For that she gets a gold star!!
Sheila was a great host, on top of things, and very responsive to our messages back and forth. Her place was very welcoming, charming, and had a home feel that we all loved! And as a bonus, we enjoyed evening tea made with fresh lemon balm from her garden;)
We had a great time in Austin, and part of the experience was definitely staying at her place. We'll do it again!
We would absolutely not recommend staying here. We were excited to stay in this "comfortable family vacation" house. Unfortunately, after traveling half way across the country, we arrived late in the evening with our toddler at a dirty, run down and uninhabitable place. Photos are staged and the decor has changed. Floor is dirty with many holes in the linoleum. There are tripping hazards between the hall way and each room as well as a cracked tile in the bathroom. Bathtub is dirty, rusted and moldy. The shower curtain is covered in red scum. Needless to say, we did not shower - let alone give our daughter a bath. We have never seen such a vile bathtub in our lives. She clearly did not take a photo of the bathtub for a good reason. The windows do not have seals. The bed makes an unbelievable amount of noise with the slightest turn. There were multiple dead and living bugs. My wife got out of bed in the morning with multiple spider bites. There was a dead moth on the floor. I don't know where the other reviews came from - I wish someone would have been honest and I could have spared my family from this place. We had planned on staying one month but left after one restless night - as soon as it became light. We drove to a hotel so we could bathe and sleep. My toddler (who always sleeps through the night) woke up complaining she could not breathe. My wife and I also were stuffed up and nauseous after breathing the dust and mold. We also listened to a rooster crow for about an hour before the sun came up (which would have woke us if we would have been able to sleep.) We had considered not leaving a review, but decided we did not want another family to go through the same dreadful ordeal.
Sheila is very responsive! Her place is very cozy and close to many destinations in Austin. The freeway is nearby so it makes a big difference. Would def recommend her place to my friends.
This is one of our favorite places to stay in Austin. I believe we've stayed there 3 or 4 years in a row. Sheila is sweet and accommodating and we love staying here. Check-in is a breeze, communication is great and the neighborhood has easy access to the highway and is located near many of the places we go to in Austin.
We always have a great experience and would absolutely stay again next time. Great AirBnB experience, Thanks!

About the Host, Sheila
Hi, I'm Sheila - I've been a long-time landlord (since 1998, actually) and I converted my duplex over to Airbnb in 2012. I've loved every minute of it! I have met some of the most interesting people - people just traveling through, people moving to Austin, people visiting as tourists, race fans, music fans, roller derby fans and players and wedding guests, you name it. I love providing visitors to Austin with a comfortable place to stay and some insider's information about traffic, getting around the city, avoiding tourist traps, and can't-miss Austin sites, sounds and eats.
I run a non-profit afterschool program for my other job. And my other other job is mom to 2 lovely children, 16 and 11 years old. Welcome to Austin!!
