She was an excellent host. The room was perfect. If you are in Jacksonville then this place is highly recommended as it is not just a peaceful place but Millie and her son will make you feel like you are home. Want a home away from home? This is it.
Millie was a wonderful hostess with excellent communication skills and even a thoughtful guest manual full of restaurant recommendations. We weren't able to take advantage of those, only being in town for one night, but the room was perfect for our purposes. Not sure if I could have stayed too long, though, as my fiancée likes to claim bathrooms as her own and scatter her toiletries and makeup everywhere, but if you are a respectful, low-maintenance person who doesn't mind sharing, this won't be an issue for you. Millie's yummy culinary creations filled the air in a good way, reminding me of staying in my grandma's house. Warm and inviting.
At first I was nervous from all the rules listed although I knew I could abide by them easily. However the rules did give me insight into Millie's quirky spirit-- I only got to talk to her at the end relating to nutrition. She also gave me plenty of "me time."-- A+++ immediately.
The room was clean and comforting especially with all the crafts also stored there-- I'm crafty myself so it felt more homely. I passed out on the bed but it IS kinda like a futon in feel. So not too too too soft. The sun also goes right into the room so you may want to bring an eye mask if that wakes you up. I barely strayed from my room so I have been easily pleased.
Perhaps I missed it in writing but Millie also has one other roommate in the house. It didn't bother me-- I barely heard him-- but it surprised me a bit.
Pu-leez! This was awful. Millie is a thief and a liar - and an ungracious hostess. This was advertised as having a real bed, but a futon is not a real bed. The kitchen was unbelievably DIRTY. I don't know how she calls herself a chef.
I emailed Millie around 6 that I'd be there at about 9:30, and I was there then. My cellphone battery was dead, so I was NOT talking on the phone. I had no one to call anyhow, even if I had had a battery. I did need a little refrigerator space - not much for my yogurt & fruit. I got in as quickly as possible and went to bed. She was upset because she had had emergency surgery. I felt bad for her. In the morning when I left, the front door wouldn't close. On my way to Miami and back, I encountered a lot of traffic and construction. There was also a family emergency in Miami, so I was delayed. I called Millie - she didn't respond. I texted & she said I had to be there by 11:30. When I realized I couldn't make it, I called (stupid me!) and texted to ask her to put my things on the porch. She never got back to me, so I texted again. Every time I had to text instead of call, I had to pull over and find a lighted place to text. Calling meant just pushing a button, but she refused to understand that texting was delaying me. Then, after I finally arrived and picked up my things (I continued on toward Savannah and went to a motel), I found out the next morning that she had not included some things, so I texted her to send them and told her I would reiumburse her. She kept my things - over $200 worth of cosmetics and medications!! I feel that she stole from me - probably she figured she was teaching me a lesson. I didn't deserve that. No one does.
I suppose she is nice to some people, but not to me. Millie made me feel like an intruder from the minute I arrived. I have stayed in many private houses, but I have never had an experience like this. She could have contacted me and cancelled after the surgery. I would have understood and would have made other arrangements.
Aston was an awful guest, I'll stay it again. I only informed her I had eye surgey when she was trying to hand her stuff to me to bring in the house (I cannot lift anything at this point). This was after she was TWO hours late and had not let me know, stood in the front yard talking very loudly (I assumed she was on the phone, I guess now she was talking to herself!). The bed is an organic cotton futon, with organic cotton sheets and comforter. I make it VERY VERY clear that there is no kitchen access, so why she is commenting on my kitchen I have NO Idea. BUT I did have two emergency eye surgeries in one week and my kids and friends have been coming to clean and help cook. I texted Ashton when I found her stuff (remember she had woken me to ask me to pack her stuff and put it on the porch, I did so, I missed her cosmetic bag. I txted her the next morning the minute I found it. She texted me 31 hours later and asked me to mail it, the trash had gone out and I had not heard from her at that point. I am NOT A thief, I wouldn't want her stuff. And the front door is hard to close, you have to push firmly...and this pissed her off because...??? She doesn't understand that she is staying in peoples home and need to arrive on time, be considerate of others and be responsible for their own actions. Please read the other reviews on here to see what kind of host I am.
Let's start by saying that Millie's response was fast and she accepted us on a short notice and thank her for that. But, Other than that we did not have a very good stay. We stayed there only for one night, thus I can not respond to all the aspects of the place. The room we received is NOT the one in the picture. It does not have a window, only a door to the back yard which we had to leave open for air circulation. The bed was not comfortable with a very thin mattress and the sheets had some smell to them. The room does not look look like a guest room, it is full with the owner's stuff. I would say it looks like a work space with a bed. All and all we felt that we are an intrusion in Millie's house- Like you would feel at a place of a distant relative that does a favor to you by letting you stay there. One more thing to mention- there is a train rails nearby and the train is heard very loudly in the room we stayed.
I have no idea what this guest thought they weren't "in the right room". There is a bed, desk, bed side table, a separate entrance (which is why I choose this room as a guest room, most people appreciate out as they can come and go and enjoy the beautiful back yard and huge patio!) When no guests are here I use it as a swing room, after all...I LIVE HERE!
Of course trials are provided; they are a large closet the bathroom. All you had to do was ask if you couldn't find them.
These guest booked last minute, arrived at 9 on the evening and left early the next morning. My profile plainly stayed that you are renting a room, not the whole house.
Millie was welcoming when I arrived. The room in her home was comfortable. The bathroom was shared but I never had a problem in accessing due to clear guidelines from the host. We had some very interesting conversations as Millie is a master chef and nutritionist, well worth the price of the stay! The location was convenient to most places in town and easily accessible.
