About this listing
Our large bedroom, with shared bathroom, is 20 minutes from downtown Seattle, by car. We are 7 minutes from the airport, in a quiet, residential neighborhood with easy parking.
For us, as experienced hosts, airbnb is a way to make the global village feel smaller. Our toddler son loves meeting new people and we like to know about folks before they book. To expedite your booking please tell us what your plans are (visiting family? tourism? business?layover?), including your **arrival** and **departure** times (approximations are fine).
We also want to ensure you have an exceptional stay and we like to make sure that our place is right for you before you book (please read our whole listing before you request!).
Northern Light Getaway (named for the large north-facing window in the room) features a queen-sized bed, a charming nook desk, and a 3 drawer dresser, and a private bathroom on the second floor of our home.
The pictures are outdated, but the room looks very similar (better bed, different dresser, etc.) IMPORTANT NOTE: Sorry, there is no bathtub.
Please read our entire description, as it answers many questions about our location, parking, transportation, rules, etc. We cannot allow refunds outside of the refund restrictions we have specified through this site, so we encourage you to make sure that this location, set up, and accommodation works for you. Feel free to ask us any questions prior to booking, as well.
Built in 1942, our rambling farmhouse-ish home is located in a residential neighborhood, seven minutes from SeaTac airport and 20 minutes from Seattle. We cannot accommodate more people in this room.
UPON RESERVING: You will get information about parking, self-check-in, house rules and arrival info. PLEASE read all of this and print it out, as it will help you have an easy check-in and a comfortable stay. Once you book the room, we ask a few questions to get to know you, in order to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
**NOTE: Any child above the age of 1 year old is considered an additional person (we charge $10 each for additional people) and needs to be accounted for when you reserve.
Our common spaces include:
-- a large, beautiful kitchen if you want to prepare any (vegetarian) meals.
--the Entry Room which offers some comfy chairs and lovely morning light for reading or writing
-- the Great Room with a large book collection, a comfortable couch, and a large dining table
-- and the veranda, which is adjacent to the dining room
Our toddler is free-roaming but doesn't go upstairs to our guest room without us. We have a Washer and Dryer and if it's an emergency, please ask and we'll show you how to use it.
Interaction with Guests
As a family of extroverts, we like to meet and interact with our guests (if possible), so please have some reviews from other airbnb hosts and a profile picture before you request a booking. For safety reasons, we will likely decline guests with no picture (of themselves) and/or no reviews from other host. We have a lively almost 3 year old who sleeps far from the guest room (he's asleep usually by 9p and wakes by 7am), but who is curious and vocal (typical toddler!)
We also love to offer coffee and tea to our guests, so please let us know when you'll be up so we can have it ready. If you don't know, we'll leave it ready to for you to make and just ask that you clean up after use and to please put away any perishable items (milk, etc.)
Outside Our Home/Burien/Seattle:
20 minutes (12 miles) outside of downtown Seattle, we're located in a diverse neighborhood.
We are 1-2 miles away from grocery stores, several different restaurants, markets, and cafes. We can recommend some great, authentic and delicious spots.
North SeaTac park is only a 10 minute walk away and has a playground, basketball court, biking/walking trails and Frisbee golf course.
We are 2.2 miles from restaurants, the library, the post office, and the main drag of Burien. It's a great walk, if you're up for it.
If you do have a car, we're 20 minutes from downtown, in no traffic (from 7-9:30a and 4-6p tack on an additional 20 minutes to and from Seattle, to be safe).
While some adventurous types have stayed with us carless, we HIGHLY recommend having a car. Enterprise Car Rental (we love them) is very close and will pick up and drop off, but the hours are 8-5p on weekdays.
If you're a more leisurely-focused and flexible traveler, public transportation is 7-11 minute walk away (depending on the time of day the stops are in different directions), and will take you downtown. If you want to check out the bus times (King County Metro Transit) prior to booking SR 509 and S 128th St are good locator points for buses. If you don't see yourself traveling during commuting times, prepare yourself for 45-60 minute bus rides to downtown Seattle. We'll know you have read this if you tell us that you "are aware of the transportation limitations and don't mind a long bus ride." :)
If you have a car and want to be downtown but don't want to park, the light rail station is 2 miles away. It's a funky way to see the more industrial parts of south Seattle and the ride is consistently 38-42 minutes.
There is ample, free parking in front of our house.
-->We are not able to pick folks up from the airport at this time.
Other Things to Note
It helps to confirm your booking faster if you let us know your arrival time, if you have a car, and if you are aware of our 12 mile (20-30 mins by car) distance from Seattle.
We expect that if you are booking with us, that you have read our description.
No smoking on the property, as we are allergic and very sensitive to smoke.
Kids over the age of one year old are considered additional people and are $10 per person. Unfortunately, we cannot allow more than two adults and one child in this room.
Pets are welcome, but if not house-trained, we ask that you kennel them while you're away from the room. Our yard is fenced, but we recommend keeping an eye on your dog (we have some wildlife that frequents our yard).
We kindly request that you remove your shoes upon entering. Feel free to bring slippers.
About the Host, Becca And Josh
Welcome! This is our 5th year (!) as Airbnb hosts and we've loved meeting all the amazing people that have stayed with us. Our newest addition, born in August 2012 (now three!), will make you smile with delight when you meet him. He's a host-in-training and we love showing him how awesome it is to connect with other amazing people from all over the world.
For us, being hosts is not just about offering a bed or a place to sleep. We really enjoy opening our home to others, and we aim to provide a comfortable, casual, creative space to rest, relax, and connect.
After hosting over 200 guests in the past 5+ years, we have found that folks who are flexible, casual, community-minded, respectful, cool with chatty /engaged toddlers, friendly and enjoy sharing (bathrooms, tips, stories, connections, etc.) have the best experience staying with us.
Our house is frequently a gathering place for family and friends, and at times it can be full. We share stories and laughter, talk about different cultures, compare cooking notes, and in general, become life-long friends. If this sounds like you, we would love to welcome you to our home.
If you're looking for more quiet, less interaction, more pristine accommodations, less people or a more central location, we can recommend some other hosts who might be a better fit.
We also hope to create a network of like-minded hosts so we can recommend hosts in other nearby cities to co-create awesome NW vacations. Feel free to message us to ask any questions!
