About OP Hale:
A big warm Aloha from Hawaii! Keith, Mary, Bodhi, Cedar, Mango and Mac would like to welcome you to Pu'uanahulu on the Big Island of Hawaii. Upon visiting Hawaii over several years, we fell in love with the islands. In an effort to live a more simple and peaceful life, we moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to the Big Island ten years ago. Keith is currently the Water Quality Laboratory Manager at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA) and previously a Naturalist Guide for Hawaii Forest & Trail. Mary is a writer and meditator who practices gratitude each day. We hope that you will visit us and experience the Big Island - local style.
You will have access to a washer and dryer so you can pack light. We have tried to anticipate your needs and provided everything you might need. If it is not in the room, ask us, we most likely own one.
Interaction with Guests
Upon arrival, we greet you with an introduction to the Big Island (size of Connecticut, 6 hours to drive all around without stopping). With the map of the Big Island spread out in front of us, we point out all the places you might want to explore, places to eat, and our guests' and our favorite adventures. We live in the main house on the property and are available for any questions you may have. We check in with you as you are coming and going during your stay to see where you have been adventuring. On your last day, we want to hear of your favorite adventures during your stay with us and wish you well on your life journey.
Puu Lani Ranch is an upscale, gated, equestrian ranch neighborhood. There are three miles of walking/jogging paths with ocean and mountain views. Spectacular star gazing and cooler evening temperatures for a good night's sleep.
We are centrally located on the west side of the Big Island. You can explore the entire island from here. Kailua Kona, Waimea, and Waikoloa are all 25 minutes away. You can reach Mauna Kea in about 45 minutes, Hilo in an hour, and Volcano National Park in an hour and a half. World renowned beaches such as Hapuna and Kua Bay are about 30 minutes away. What we love most about our neighborhood is perfect weather all year long and the ability to explore the entire Big Island from our home.
The Big Island is BIG so in order to explore the island fully, you must rent a car. Your parking spot is in front of the property. Once you book with us, we will send you a map to our place from the airport.

Mary & Keith
Mary and Keith are excellent hosts. They took the time to talk to us about the Big Island and the location of their home makes it easy to explore many parts of the island. The neighbourhood is beautiful and quiet and you will wake up to the sound of birds chirping. We found that this was an ideal place to stay because it cooled down in the evening so you could sleep well.
The apartment is clean and stocked with amenities!
The Mary and Keith Park was a wonderful vacation home for us. It is spacious, airy and large windows for lots of light - just how we like it. If vacations are to learn something new, we learned so much about Hawaii from the hosts Mary and Keith. Both of them are wonderful people and we had great conversations with them. We were impressed with their hospitality and spoilt by their fresh fruits and baked goodies - papayas in particular.
The Big Island is really big and if you want to explore it all, this is a great location - it may not be close to anything, but it is not too far from any place either. If you are stuck in the resorts on the west coast, you may find driving to the volcano a pain - not so much from here. For star gazers, the Mauna Kea is very accessible - we went twice each to the volcano and the Mauna Kea just because they were accessible. Both Mary and Keith know the island on the back of their hand - so do reach out to them for insider tips.
Great accommodation. Very clean and very safe and quite in a private ranch retreat about 30 minutes drive from Kailua-Kona and Kohala coast. Great view to Mauna Kea. Mary & Keith are great hosts, giving you a lot of good tips for activities and local food. Thanks to Mary we discovered Poke which we enjoyed a lot.
You find everything in the appartment what you need for a relaxing stay. If you are on Big Island you would not need to stay somewhere else. We definitely recommend it!
Mary and Keith welcomed two weary travelers with smiles, fresh banana bread, papayas, juice and LOTS of travel information. Their home is just as described and it was a perfect spot for us since we wanted to see as much of the Big Island as possible. It is very clean with everything you could need, and it has windows that open on the world each morning with the sounds of a bird sanctuary drifting up to greet you. If we return to the Big Island, we will check on this home first!
We had a lovely experience staying at Mary and Keith's place. They were welcoming and available to talk with us when needed, while honoring our privacy. The location is beautiful, like living in a very comfortable tree house and the views were spectacular. We loved morning and evening walks around the neighborhood. We hope to return and experience this place again. thanks. - Jon and Georgie
Mary and Keith provided a perfect first experience with Airbnb! Their home is clean, well appointed, quiet and perfectly located to explore the island. Mary and Keith could not have been better hosts! They were there for questions, but gave us perfect privacy. We felt like guests in their home.. in all the good ways. The accommodation is spacious, bright and airy. The location in the hills ensures peace and privacy and the bonus of a nice breeze in the evenings. Mary and Keith provided us with lots of information, before and during the trip. Listen to their hints, we found them very valuable! (especially about booking early on diving and where to find a great yoga class!);
In summary, I would strongly recommend this accommodation and especially our hosts Mary and Keith.
Mary and Keith,
Thank you again for a great experience! We really appreciated your time and generous sharing of your home and knowledge.

Just spent a week at Mary and Keith's studio. As advertised - about a half hour north of Kailua/Kona on Route 190. Spacious, comfortable, lots of light, quiet, nice porch, great bird song, well equiped! Mary and Keith were gracious hosts. Helpful on some questions prior to our arrival and greeted us when we arrived and gave us an overview of the island and ideas/tips for exploring. As Mary and Keith point out, you're about a half hour away from restaurants, supermarkets so worth thinking about your day before you head out. We found Waimea and Waikaloa to be dining/market options as convenient as Kona. Since we spent most of our time on the north end of the island, being north of Kona was not a problem. Great hike in a reserve just down the road which Mary and Keith can tell you about. Definitely worth doing - great views. We enjoyed snorkeling at Captain Cook Monument and next to City of Refuge; boogie boarding at Hapuna and trip up to Visitor Center on Mauna Kea for sunset and star gazing. Best to go there when there's a new moon - i.e., no moon! Liked the little fish market in the town that's at the intersection of route 19/route 270. Forget the name! Also good ice cream across the street.
