A beautiful houseboat, in the center of Amsterdam.

Well maintained, cozy houseboat moored on a common center located in the Plantage district of Amsterdam, a stone's throw from Artis Zoo, the Amstel and Waterloo square with several terraces and restaurants within easy reach. The ship was recently on both the interior and exterior painted and fitted a new bathroom, new electrical system and new heating system. From the deck you have a nice view over the water of the New Achtergracht.

The bed rooms have each a not so wide bed which is suitable for one person or a couple. The bed is 120cm wide and 2m long. In the living room there is a large sleeping sofa for 2 persons.

You can sit on the front deck and back deck.

Washing/dryer machine, wifi, tv with dvd, ipod/iphone music player, dish washer, blender, toaster, oven, microwave, toaster, 2 double beds of 120m. Bathroom has shower and toilet.

Area description:
The Plantage, or "plantation" is one of Amsterdam's first suburbs, and is named after the botanical and herb gardens that were popular here in the 1800s. The Artis Zoo has been one of the area's star attractions since it opened in 1838 , as the first-ever zoo in continental Europe. Nature lovers will also want to check out the Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam (Amsterdam Botanical Garden) established in 1682.
The Jewish Historical Museum (Joods Historisch Museum) traces Jewish spirituality, history and culture over the millennia with exhibits spread over three former shuln (temples), retrofitted and adjoined into one masterful museum. Another family favorite, is the Tropics Museum (Tropenmuseum).
The University of Amsterdam has many buildings around the Plantage, and as a result, many student cafes and bars are in the neighborhood. The Kriterion is a place where intellectuals meet for coffee or to play some of the many board games scattered around the café. Most importantly, the Kirterion is the city's main alternative cinema, with interesting films from all over the world.

  • Husbåden var fin til prisen. Det var meget (email hidden) der. Sengene var bedre end forventet! Vi nød vores ophold i Amsterdam.

  • The houseboat was nice with lots of towels and blankets. I would make sure the heat (open the release valves and check if thermostat works with Jacob), washer/dryer instructions if needed, spare keys exist in case of issues, and wifi is working initially at check-in. FYI, the door to the houseboat is difficult to close. Jacob is quick to respond to any problems.

  • Upon arrival into the house boat there was a very strong musty odor. I had a allergic reaction and had diff breathing. Asked if pets had been in the boat and was told no. We ran the dishwasher 2x as the smell was in that area and that helped. The shower situation is not good. It is combined toilet/shower space. The water pools on the floor of the restroom and covers the toilet and everything in there. It also runs under the door into the hallway. The bedrooms /living room were clean and comfortable. The kitchen had everything except an electric kettle. Jacob was friendly and helpful.

  • This is a great space! We really enjoyed using the houseboat. It made for a unique experience. It was close to a grocery store, metro stop and trams. The bedrooms are small but I think that is clearly shown in the pictures. It was all just as we expected.

The only problem we had was with meeting up with Jacob for the key hand off. Apparently he had sent me emails to confirm our check in time but I never received anything except for a standard auto-reply type messages that said "you are confirmed". I'm not sure what happened to the rest of his messages.

We had arrived into AMS at 6:00 am on a red eye flight then spent 5 hours walking around the city killing time until our check in. We were very tired and it was disappointing that no one was there at the check in. I had to call him on my cell which was really expensive (international rates). However I can see it from his point of view... he was sending messages and no one was responding. He thought I was a flake out.

I highly recommend this place and I think Jacob is a responsible and good host. Just make sure you confirm your check in time with him prior to arrival.

  • We had a fantastic stay on the house boat. The boat is a great size with outside seating too. It is in a great location and an easy walk to everything central plus there are cafes, a supermarket and metro/tram are literally on the doorstep.
We unfortunately were unable to contact Jacob on the morning of our arrival and had lots of luggage so this spoilt the first half of our first day in Amsterdam. However, Jacob was very apologetic and to make up for it gave us a free boat tour which was the highlight of our stay! Not being able to get in touch with Jacob on the first morning was obviously just an anomaly as we had no problems for the rest of our stay. The fact that he was able to turn around a negative into a huge positive shows what a great host he is!
We are definitely returning and will have no hesitation of using Jacob's accommodation again.

Very cool houseboat! Stayed 2 nights as family of 4 and really loved it - clean, cosy and well-equipped. It is in a quiet street, but there are plenty of cafes and supermarkets around the corner. Jacob was very easy to get hold of and the stay was completely problem-free. This is a really great way to spend some time in Amsterdam - recommended!

  • We had a lovely stay at the house boat. It is spacious, extremely well equipped (there are more things in that kitchen than I have at home:)), centrally located and great in every way.
It was easy getting in touch with Jacob when we had questions and he was helpful.
I can warmly recommend the house boat!

  • Staying on Jacob's canal boat was an amazing and special introduction to the delights of Amsterdam. It is perfectly situated a 2 minute walk from a Metro station or an easy 25 minute walk from Centraal station. A 15 min walk will take you to Rembrandt plaza with many choices for cafes and restaurants, and of course coffee houses. A 30 minute walk will take you to the Dam or to the museum plaza.
The boat was perfect for the 3 of us and the fully equipped kitchen allowed us to shop at the nearby supermarkets and prepare our own breakfasts. Everything was very clean and fresh for our stay.
Jacob is a gracious host who met us at the Metro stop and walked us to the boat.
