  • My husband and I were visiting New York for a wedding and chose Luis's place because he lives near our friends. If you don't need a lot of bells and whistles, this room is great value for money in New York.

As a host, Luis is fantastic. Our plane was an hour late, and we arrived much later than we expected. He waited up for us and made us feel very welcome. I also left something behind, and he's sending it back. Amazing! We had a very busy visit and would've liked to spend more time with him.

Now. The apartment. It's New York, so the space is limited. The room has lots of storage space, so you can tuck your things away, but there isn't a lot of breathing room. The bathroom is especially tiny -- there isn't a lot of space to put things. However, the water pressure was GREAT and there was lots of hot water. Everything was clean, and Luis has a Brita filter on his kitchen faucet, so the water is drinkable. It's also worth mentioning that the apartment is a fourth floor walk-up. Again, standard for New York but tough if you have heavy bags.

The neighborhood is okay. We didn't feel unsafe, even walking back on the street late at night. However, the variety of local establishments has much to be desired. It's very easy to get into town, but if you want a nice meal nearby, you can expect to walk at least 10 blocks. (There is a Subway and a McDonald's nearby, but both are a little sketchy.)

If, like us, you choose this location for a specific reason and you have reasonable expectations of the neighborhood and the apartment, all will be well!

  • Our experience couldn't be better. The bed is bigger than it seems in pictures and all the apartment is very pleasant. Despite Harlem is a little bit far from what things happen, it's worth it because there are 4 lines running close to the apartment and 30 min was the maximum me and my friend took to go to places.
Luis is a very nice and easy person to live with who helped us with tips and instructions about everything we asked, besides being a great company to have breakfast and dinner together. We would definitely stay there again.
