On the Mimbres River, near the Gila wilderness, this two bedroom newly-renovated adobe home sits on the mountainside overlooking the valley. Quiet and peaceful, this retreat is perfect for hiking, biking, and star-gazing. Minutes off Highway 35, a designated scenic byway, it is thirty minutes from Silver City and twenty minutes from Lake Roberts. Please note that after the Gila Fire in June 2022, the valley is susceptible to flash flooding. High clearance car with 4-wheel drive recommended.

The space
The house is on 11 acres. It has two bedrooms and one bathroom. One bedroom has a step to go down to. There is a big living room, an eat-in kitchen, and a sun porch. The house is private. I live nearby in case of any problems.

To get to the house, you have to drive through a river, that may or may not be dry. If the river is running, there is usually 2-4'' of water. Sedan vehicles routinely have no trouble crossing the river at this level. On the rare occasion, when there is heavy rain up the mountain, the road is impassible for a few days. This applies to sedans and 4-wheel drive vehicles. In the event of flooding, I will alert guests in advance.

I'm a writer who moved to the Mimbres Valley in 2017. I live with my husband on a hillside off a road called El Otro Lado, which means: the other side. This refers to the 'other side' of the Mimbres River, but also another side of life that lies in stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of a big city. This mountainous river valley is calm and quiet. I like to look at stars and here there is minimal artificial light and sparse cloud coverage. It is one of the sunniest places in the US.
