"everything about this place is simply perfection. the room is laid out really well; it doesn't even feel like a studio. the decor is simple and charming, there's a ton of information on the local area, the bed is comfy, the sheets were warm, the fireplace works very well (as does the grill) and....there's a dishwasher! and let me concur with the other renters....it is very private. yes, do you have to walk down the stairs and under the cottage to the hot tub, however the double-layered fence on the 2 sides of the hot tub made us totally comfortable. hope to return again in the near future. honestly, we could move in permanently; it's just that nice."

This cottage is amazing. Very close to great food, grocery stores, and bars. Unbelievable view. I saw whales everyday.
What a dream trip! Gualala is the kind of place that's as beautiful to get to as it is once you arrive-- except in this case, when you arrive, there's a hot tub waiting for you. Logistically, everything was smooth and seamless. Tom was easy to communicate with and sent clear and helpful directions. Once there, the studio cottage was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The kitchen was well-equipped and the cottage was decorated with Tom and Susan's gorgeous art. Our favorite part of the stay was most definitely the view (especially from the hot tub) and we found that we spent more time in the cottage than out, even though there's so much to see in the area. I can't recommend this place enough and suggest that once you book, make sure you spend some time outside on the porch at night-- the stars and the sound of the ocean are unreal.
We had a lovely visit - thank you for the peace and privacy! What a beautiful spot. It was such a treat - can't wait to come back :)
Picture perfect setting, very quiet and peaceful place to unwind and relax. Close to town but far enough away you have total serenity. Tom was super friendly and very knowledgeable and had great recommendations for fun things to do and places to visit.
Absolute perfection. We had the most wonderful New Year's weekend at Tom & Susan's. The view of course was amazing. The location was great as well, we hiked at nearby beaches, explored different coves and could get everything we needed from the local grocery stores. And the apartment was squeaky clean such a rarity in rental homes, we look forward to coming back.
Amazing space, loved to fall asleep to the sound of waves and got to watch the geminid meteor shower from a hot tub. A nice, cozy space learning towards function over luxury, which was perfect for us. A very fair value. Very thoughtful hosting, with lots of helpful notes and an constantly updated insider's guide to the area. Very respectful of privacy (even putting up a screen on a window that is near the hot tub while we were there) yet we knew if we needed anything Tom & Susan would be available. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
We appreciate your review and do hope you choose to stay in our cottage again. It is a balancing act between giving people complete privacy and looking to meet them face to face. Generally people like to chat but sometimes just want to go their own way. Perhaps if you visit again we can meet.
Thank you for treating the cottage well, we appreciate your care.
Also, thank you for suggesting our place to a friend, they have already made a reservation.
We enjoyed every minute at this beautifully situated second-story flat. The view and sound of the ocean was the big draw, loved the gas fireplace too. Even enjoyed cooking!! Thanks and kudos to Tom and Susan.
Susan and I met in 2000 and discovered we both had the desire to live close enough to the ocean to see and hear the ever changing ocean and waves. As a professional photographer I could not be happier with our surroundings. In five minutes we can be walking amongst huge old redwood trees along the Gualala River or kayak on the very same river or standing on the beach. Susan finds a wealth of inspiration for her various artwork creations along this coastal area.
