Description

At the XVIII century Palace is this cosy apartment with the charm that time confers to it. Staying there is to feel Lisboa from inside. 2 min. walking away from the subway and 15 min. from the centre, it's in the incredibly typical Alfama quarter.

INTRODUCTION
At the top of an old Palace of the XVIII century, there is this cosy apartment with the charme of the time passing by... Built in 1701 it resisted to the 1755 earthquake (it's an antique house!...).
In 1868 it have been converted to a building of 3 flats with 3 apartments for each flat, inhabited by familys of different social strata. The familys with more possessions that still live there, offer the pleasant view to theire gardens, from the back of the house (room and Kitchen) and the birds that live there offer a beautifull sound to awake in the morning.

You can't look straight to the river, but if you take a peep or seet on the window ledge, than you can confortable contemplate it.

Down stairs of "your" appartment you can find, in the mercearias (grocery stores), all the things you need to well start the day: new bread, milk, fruit... - these are the best places and opportunities to meet the neighbourhood.

The appartment has a sleeping room with one double bed; a living room with one double sofa bed, a chaise/sofa long, a double sit sofa and two futons (japonese beds) just in case. The bathroom has shower and the kitchen is equipped with micro wave, hotplate and hoven to cook, a kettle, a toaster, dishes and so on (the essential).

THE APPARTMENT
With capacity for 4 people
•1 room with a couple bad
•one living room with 3 sofas (one double sofa bed)
•two futons (japonese bed)
•WC and equiped kitchen.

The house is your's except for one locked closet.

My co-host Mila Fedorenko will be available for your requests.

SURROUNDING FACILITIES
indispensable goods
•mercearias around (grocery shops)
•supermaket inside the train station (Pingo Doce)
•cash machine inside the train station

HISTORICAL CONTEXT (culture)
Alfama is the oldest and one of the most typical residential area in Lisboa. Probablly the more plasent quarter in town!
It is like an old village ("aldeia") in the core of Lisboa.

To better locate yourself, very close from the appartment, you can find the following monuments and cultural interests:
•Panteão Nacional
•Feira da Ladra (one of the most renowned and lively fair in Lisbon)
•Santa Clara market (the first covered public market in Portugal)
•Museu do Fado
•Museu do Azulejo
•Museu da Água
•Casa dos Bicos (Foundation of José Saramago - literature Nobel prize)
•lot of springs like the "Chafariz de El-Rei"
•several "Alcaçarias" (public baths)
[the name "Alfama comes from the arabic word "al-hamma" wich means baths or springs]
•side river

INTERTAINMENT
In the surround (along the "Rua dos Remédios") you'll find several fado's houses ("tascas" - the popular ones) and a few bares and Restaurants. My favorite is "Tasca da Bela" in the beginning of the street on the left side.
If you come in June, than you are in the core of the popular Stº António party (13 June is the big day)!
Along the river you have:
•Delidelux - charcuterie (which serves delicious brunch and light meals)
•"Bica do Sapato" (a well-known Restaurant)
•Pizza | Casanova Restaurant (extension of the Casanostra in "Bairro Alto")
•hairdresser (fashionable)
•Decoration / Design shops...
•Hamburger Restaurant Cais da Pedra
•Discoteca LUX - famous (!)
Santa Clara Garden:
•esplanade Clara-Clara (Feira da Ladra - I advice it for brekfast or a drink, late in the afternoon!)
•Park for children play
In more distance but also close:
•Clube Ferroviário - Bar
•Fábrica Braço de Prata - Bar
[...] it doesn't stop hear but these are my preferences...

And for simple intertainment just get lost in Alfama walking trought the narrow and alive streets!...

This typical quarter is attended every day and year, with portuguese and foreign turists so it is considered as the most secure in Lisbon.

I expect you to find yourself at home (one more resident!) in this genuine part of Lisbon!

Wellcome!

From hear, you can easily go to every where in Lisbon...
•3min. walking to the Stª Apolónia train station,
•3min. walking to the metro and Taxi sattion.
•15min. walking to down town.
•15min. walking to Graça's area (Bairro da Graça)
•20/30min. walking to the Castel

To park your car, usually there is place close to Santa Clara square at a residential area. Mila will show where, if you ask her.

You are at a third floor and, of course (!) in this old building, don't expect to find an elevator!

Filipa User Profile
