The Space

For the single traveler, or intimate couple, this is a small historical adobe apartment across the courtyard from my other Canyon Rd listing. It has it's own kitchenette and full bath. It has 3 skylights and and 3 windows.

Queen size bed. High thread count sheet set, down comforter, plenty of soft pillows. Cozy bed!

It comes complete with 2 great Trek bicycles. Cruise around the prettiest neighborhood in style. There's a standing type bike pump and one has a basket in front. The bicycles are shared between the guests in Besos, across the courtyard, however. Occasionally they are in for service. Guests must sign a waiver prior to riding.

Free high speed internet! One dedicated off-street parking spot!

Cable TV on 26" Vizio flatscreen!

New Keurig Espresso machine with coffee and creamers.

Directly across the street from beautiful Monsignor Patrick Smith Park, tall trees and songbirds surround this historical area. It's a one minute walk to the gallery and restaurants that Canyon Road is famous for. Go to the Teahouse Restaurant for breakfast or lunch, dance it up at El Farol, the oldest bar in Santa Fe, or enjoy fine dining at Geronimo's, and walk home!

What's within walking distance:

100+ Art Galleries, of course.

The Teahouse (8-7, all week)

One block west on Canyon Rd. Great place for breakfast and for lunch. Enjoy your meal or tea on their pebble stone patio in the sunshine. The baked goods are usually very good. I also recommend the salads, one is a healthy meal in itself. The coffee drinks are a little better than average. Casual atmosphere, great magazine selection for design and fashion. They have the NY Times.

El Farol (website hidden)

Less than two blocks west on Canyon Rd. .
Check out their entertainment line-up, everything from salsa night, to blues bands, to trivia night (Monday). They have a tapas (small spanish plates) menu, as well as a dinner menu. A place to (email hidden) and get to know some people, visitors and residents alike

A little further down Canyon, well into the gallery area, is a fine dining restaurant. Don't be intimidated, go inside and check out the inner bar room. The friendly bartender will make you feel at home. There (email hidden) menu. For a more formal evening, the restaurant has excellent service and top-notch food and wine. The building is from the 1700's. Recommended.

The Compound

This is further by about two more blocks. I only dined here once and feel that Geronimo's is the better choice for the price range.

Cafe Artiste

On Canyon rd, Nearly to Paseo de Peralta--about one mile from the Casita.

Friendly, small, coffee and pastries, crepes? …

Downtown Subscription

Corner of Garcia St and Acequia Madre. Nice coffee shop with loads of magazines to peruse. Patio out back and in the front. The espresso drinks are decent. Lots of local people. It's a very nice walk: Go directly behind the casita onto Acequia Madre, and walk west. One of the most charming walks in Santa Fe! Keep going about one mile, passing an elementary school, until you see Garcia St. The coffeeshop is on the corner in a strip with a nice book store, photography gallery (Photo-eye). Pick up the local paper out front.

Kakawa Chocolate House.

Going past Downtown Subscription, cross Paseo de Peralta, to this darling chocolate house with hand crafted chocolate creations.

The easiest trail is right across the street! Just go through Patrick Smith Park and the other side is Santa Fe River, which runs along East Alameda St. It follows the river (a creek-size river), more or less, all the way across town, to West Alameda St. and the Plaza area, and beyond. Recommended for a partial walk, shop, eat, day.

Dale Ball Trails

Drive to this trailhead area by going East on Canyon, turn RT , then quickly left at the Stop sign. Now you are on Upper Canyon Rd. Follow this road about one mile and you will see a small parking area on the left.

Guest Access

Access to an inner courtyard with two fruit trees, wrought iron table, chairs, hammock, bicycles. Outer courtyard of of driveway with resin table and chairs., view of Monsignor Patrick Smith Park.

Interaction with Guests

If I am here, I like to say hello and see if it's all to your liking and if there's anything you need. If I'm away, this can be done by text, phone or email. Please understand that this is not an inn, but a place to stay. The unit is supplied with what you need for a few days. If you need more, it is something you will have to purchase.

The Neighborhood

The neighborhood is a visual feast. Bring your camera. It's slow-paced and full of pueblo architecture. The acequia is especially nice to view in summer and fall.

Getting around

There is a bus stop only a block away. The plaza is a little over one mile down Canyon rd and then along Alameda st. A car is preferred in the winter months especially.

  • We had the most lovely stay in Lisa's casita. The location was wonderful for strolling along Canyon Rd and taking in all of the art. We found the location to be an easy walk to the Plaza too, but the bikes were a nice perk if you want to get down to the Plaza area faster. The space is a little tight, but an adequate size for two. Highlights include: well-placed skylights for natural light, a welcoming little courtyard with a hammock, and Lisa's wonderful design aesthetic. Thanks much! We hope to return someday.

So glad you enjoyed the space, the bikes, and historic Santa Fe. Hope to meet you next time.

  • A great place for a cozy retreat. Extremely convenient to great food and galleries (within walking distance). All modern amenities were provided and if anything else is needed, just contact Lisa.

  • Studio C is a perfect little place and I plan to stay there again. It's great having a grassy park right across the street and the galleries along Canyon road are a short stroll away. The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful at night and it was great having an enclosed terrace. Can't wait to be back in Santa Fe!

  • Lisa was a great host. Friendly, fun to visit with and very attentive to our needs. The casita is charming space - great for a single or couple. We would happily stay with her again on our next Santa Fe visit!

    Response from Lisa:

Thanks for the additional feedback. The tv was propped on a magazine previously, but the previous guest must've removed it. I've just today bought a nice queen comforter for the studio. I hope you return someday, and it will be more put together.

  • Lisa's studio apartment was exactly as promised and perfect for our long weekend in Santa Fe. It is tastefully decorated with southwestern & Spanish items that make you feel both at home & immersed in the local culture. It was also the perfect location for easily getting around town. One day we borrowed the complimentary bikes and effortlessly visited the Plaza and Railyard neighborhoods. The Canyon Rd galleries & restaurants are all within walking distance and there's a great park across the street for a morning jog. At the end of each day, it felt like coming home to our own cozy & quaint cottage.

  • Studio C is light-filled and cozy. Even though it's small, the skylights made it feel bigger. We didn't use the sweet little courtyard that featured fruit trees and a perfect breakfast table because Santa Fe surprised us with snow. We turned on one of the heaters and the wall heater in the bathroom, which gave us plenty of heat. This was our first experience of adobe. We used the kitchenette to make breakfast. It is well-equipped--French press coffee maker, wine glasses, everything we needed.

Lisa is warm and welcoming. She even gave me a book to take with me for our visit to Ojo Caliente. She is easy to talk to and was the first person to give us directions that did not get us lost.

The studio is in a great location at the end of the galleries and restaurants on Canyon Road. There is a pretty park with picnic tables directly across the street. We liked the nearby Teahouse and the healthy, fast-food Burrito Company that is just off the plaza.

We would love to stay here again. Maybe we would stay in Besos (across the courtyard) because it has fireplaces.

  • lisa went the extra mile to prepare our room for us in time for us to check in early and make it to the gallery event we were in time for. the room was clean, well-organized and charming and lisa was just personable and friendly enough to make us feel at home yet she gave us our privacy as well. when we forgot our room key late one night she was not miffed at all but helped us in a friendly and helpful way. i'm sure we'll be staying there in th future when we have business to do there!

  • what a beautiful 'perfect' experience my life partner and i had at lisa's bnb!
it was one of the most charming little casita's we ever stayed in.
and sooo conveniently close to the magic of canyon street and all 'her' glory: galleries, restaurants, music, on and on…what an exquisite experience we had with abundant beauty all around us!
last but not least…. the way lisa took care of us was truly 'icing on the cake': easy going, VERY generous, respectful of our space…. and fun!
    thank you lisa for ALL.
we will be back~ year after year~

Friendly and helpful, I will do my best to be sure you are comfortable during your stay at Pu'ulena House on the Big Island of Hawaii, or at Canyon Road in Santa Fe. I split my time between the two places. My creative expression is seen in all the spaces listed. I use airbnb often when i travel (Los Angeles, San Miguel de Allende, Tucson,...) and can relate to the needs of a traveler. While in Hawaii I enjoy swimming in tide pools and in the open ocean. Painting and drawing the human figure is another passion. I designed, built and decorated Pu'ulena House and hope to try my hand at it once more in this lifetime! In Hawaii, I served on the board of Kalapana Sea View Estates for several years and was instrumental in the development of the neighborhood park, pavilion and tree plantings. I love life and the people in it.
