Interaction with Guests
I do not live in the building but i do always come to the apartment to get the room ready for our guests. I like to make sure that all is clean and that the guest is satisfied. I have a 24 hour check-in system in place to accommodate any late check-ins or any guests that are a bit late. you can reach via mobile phone or AirBnB message at any time, please don't hesitate :)
I used to run my guest house on this very street, so i should know the area very well. The flat is right in the heart of London so it is difficult to pick out any one place in particular that you must visit. But for eating out my favourite is Old Compton Street, one of the most renowned places in London to serve dinner til late at night. The British Museum is at the heart of Bloomsbury, a mere walking distance away from the apartment. Historically, Bloomsbury is associated with the education, medicine and mostly, the art. Therefore the area sets a sophisticated yet very modern atmosphere. The Bloomsbury theatre, a very respected theatre within the eyes of Londoners and actors/actresses alike; is located within the area.
Attractions like Oxford and Soho are easily accessible through public transport as the flat is so close to it anyway.
Locals to the area are spoil for choice with restaurants, bars and clubs being within feet of each other. The location is amazing! Come visit and experience London in its full beauty for yourself :)
The closest tube stations are Tottenham Court Road (Central and Northern line) and Holborn (Victoria and Central line, both are a 5 minute walk away.
No smoking inside the premises.
No pets allowed inside the apartments.
No parties to keep the apartments clean please.
Throughout the process, Maggie, our host, was quick to respond by email to all questions. Our rooms were in a convenient location. It was a short walk to British Museum, minutes to Holborn tube station and busses, 5 minutes to Covent Gardens and Shaftesbury Theater. The apartment met our needs. We had a great stay, and would happily return.
We loved the location of this flat. Right around the corner (literally) from the British Museum and a few minutes walk to the nearest underground station - Holborn. The main living area had plenty of room for me and my husband. The bathroom was a bit cramped but we've experienced the same thing in other European cities. Having a kitchen is nice since eating out all day everyday can get old and expensive. We washed our clothes once which was a treat since we've been traveling before and will continue to be traveling after. But beware that the cycles take extremely longer than US washing machines (took 2.5 hours to wash). I asked a London coworker about this and she said you have to find the quick cycle. Unfortunately there is no way to tell which cycle setting that is. Overall this flat fit our needs. Very clean and great location, and worth the price.
Location-wise, this can’t be beat: a quiet street in an attractive residential area, near Oxford Street and Bloomsbury and good transport links. It would make a great base for a couple of backpackers staying in London for a week and trying to do it on a budget. The room is spacious, and the kitchen is great if you’re going to do your own cooking. The bed is very comfortable, and check-in is easy and convenient.
Personally, however, this isn’t the Airbnb experience I look for. The apartment feels more like a budget hotel or guest house than a place anyone could call a home. It’s in a building of other similar apartments and rooms, and the furnishing and infrastructure is pretty bare-bones. The bathroom is a sort of plastic closet built in the corner of the kitchen: you can’t have a shower without making the toilet wet. The photos are accurate, but the place looks a bit more dingy and drab - no vases of flowers on the table in real life!
But, it’s great value if you’re looking for a basic studio apartment somewhere central.
We stayed in Maggie's studio ("Bloomsbury London, Big Studio 21/6") for four nights. The location is great and it was very easy to pick up the key and leave it at the end of our stay. The bedroom gets good light and there is a combination washer/dryer that works adequately. The large bed is actually two twins pushed together with a king top sheet, but this is not unusual for Airbnb and served us fine.
Our one complaint is about the bathroom. We'd seen other (American) complaints and assumed they just weren't used to European setups, but the bathroom is truly surprising. It is, all told, the size of an American shower stall, in which a toilet and sink have been placed and across which one draws a shower curtain (that does not come near the floor) at a diagonal. The idea is to separate the toilet and shower areas -- but unfortunately, that is only the idea. In reality, the water gets everywhere, such that when you are done you must squeegee it (squeegee provided) past the toilet and down the drain. The shower pressure is quite good, which is part of the cause of the water getting everywhere.
All of that is to say that while the facilities were serviceable, they are less than ideal and not for the claustrophobic. Yet, with the amazing location, the good price, and the functional appliances, Maggie's studio is still a great place to spend a few days in London.
Maggie was very helpful, the flat was clean and pleasant and as described, would happily stay there again, in fact I booked it on a friends recommendation.
Maggie was very responsive. The building location is great. It's on a charming block. The windows provide lots of light and though the room is small it didn't feel claustrophobic. The kitchen has everything you'd need to cook for a couple people. The laundry was a nice benefit. The bed isn't the most comfortable and taking a shower does get the whole bathroom wet, but maybe that's standard for UK showers? But on the whole it's a great room / place. When a problem arose with a lock and key, Maggie and Peter were quick to address it.
