Cave La Pita has two bedrooms with dubble beds. Self - catering, a large confortable bathroom, a private terrace with barbeque with great views over the town and river. To get to the cave house, you need to climb three flights of stairs. During summer, you may enjoy the small swimming pool, which is shared with two more houses. It is open from mid June. There is wifi connection.
Interaction with Guests
I live very close to the cave house, the guests are welcome to ask any help just knocking at my door.
Monachil is 18 Km from the Sierra Nevada Ski Resort, 8 Km from the city of Granada ( Humanity's Heritage by UNESCO, home to the majestic La Alhambra ), and 30 Km from the Mediterranean Sea.
The property has two fully equipped caves , beautiful views overlooking the town and a quiet atmosphere. Staying in one is an unforgettable experience evoking Earth's peaceful embrace.
Monachil offers a variety of outdoor activities such as paragliding, mountain biking, trekking and rock climbing. There are also many bars and restaurants with great tapas and a fun atmosphere.
Monachil also has a rich cultural life. There are many bars and restaurants with great tapas and a fun atmosphere.
The town is very well located, there are public buses to Granada every hour. In the town of Monachil are plenty things to see and do. Here you can experience typical Andalusian way of life. You may do a flamenco course or learn how to cook the best paella and impress your friends back home. Also visit artist´s workshops, and more...
It is peaceful and very quiet.
The bus stop is at 100 meters from the cave house, the bus takes you to Granada center.
To enjoy the environment and the house with respect, which i offer with lots of caring. Please leave the place as you found it, and take out the garbage.
Important, make sure the door is shoot, because there are wild cats out in the mountain.
You will find a sheet of paper, that I need you to fill out with your personal information. Please, give it to me, or leave it into the mailbox. This needs to be done on the first day of check in.
Great location just outside Granada with access to scenic walks/hikes , friendly and helpful host, amazing views and atmosphere.
Would definitely go again.
Our family of four adults had a comfortable 3-night stay in the upper cave house, La Pita. It was too chilly in the mornings and evenings to sit out on the private terrace and enjoy the beautiful view (it was early April, and it had been warmer the previous week), but the cave was comfortable inside, especially with one of the three heaters on. We loved the rugged plastered and whitewashed cave walls with their little alcoves. We appreciated having vent fans in the bedrooms to reduce the humidity of the underground space. Having our own bathroom was wonderful, even though we did have to go outside for a few steps to get to it. The grocery store at the end of the street (walking alley with steps) had everything we needed. We made our own simple breakfasts in the cave and ate lunch and dinner at four different bars and restaurants in town. (There were facilities and utensils in the cave for more ambitious cooking had we wanted to do that.). The bus to the Alhambra took only about 30 minutes and was on time in both directions. Kathy told us all the best spots to eat in the village of Monachil and had sent us information in advance on local geology tours (because two of us are geologists). She provided a local map and lots of brochures on various bars, restaurants, and activities in the region in a basket in the cave, and she reviewed the highlights of the materials with us. Hiking in Los Cohorros at the head of the village is not to be missed, especially if you can go on one of Fini's tours ((website hidden)). When it was time to leave, Kathy kindly arranged for a taxi to the bus station in Granada for us (about a 20-minute ride for 20 euros). We recommend staying in a cave house to adventurous people. We would stay at La Pita again!
Katie's caves were one of the best experiences we ever had! Ok, they are no place to spend all day, but then they are caves after all. But they are every bit the cosy place you see on the pictures. The highlight is the terrace overlooking the village. We had breakfast every day outside ... in March. The heaters inside managed to keep the night chill outside. Katie is a great host who makes you feel absolutelly welcome. Granada is 15 min by car away, mich makes this place a perfect place to combine hiking the Sierry Nevada and visiting Granada. However, be careful to book, if you are handicapped in terms of climbing stairs: the stunning view comes with a price ... you have to park the car approximatelly 50 vertical meters below ... but it is worth it. Next time Granada we'll definitelly book Katie again.
