Pagoda Lodge is a 1930's hardwood building with heaps of character.
The sweeping, golden Pagoda Roof and the history of Imperial Chinese treasures inspired us to decorate the Lodge with a touch of Asia-Pacific and an historical "expatriate" flavour. Imagine being an expatriate China hand in the 30's!
There are distinctive baskets, weavings, paintings, textiles and wall hangings. The often antique furniture and old travel trunks tell their own story and have been blended with interesting Pacific and Maori decor.
The beds, however, are modern and comfortable and there is satellite TV in most units.

The accomodation was nice and tidy. Stephen was very friendly. I was pleased the location was situated in a quiet area outside of the main town.
The location of this place is beautiful and is a short drive into town. We only spent the night, but Stephen and his wife were very helpful informing us about possible activities to do in the rain. On occasions, you may hear your neighbours through the walls.
I travelled from Australia to see my son and his partner who live in Auckland and used Airbnb for the first time as a guest, I am usually the 'host' and it was a perfect first experience! Pagoda Lodge is everything you read and more. The property has a calming vibe about it with great little walks and quiet reflective places to be. The gardens are stunning and the river just adds to the overall ambience of the property. We stayed in the 2 bedroomed Pagoda 2. We were very comfortable and everything is provided for an easy stay. Stephen was very helpful with local information and gave us several wonderful options of things to do and places to see. My only disappointment was that we only had a two night stay, I could easily have stayed a week! I hope that one day I will be back and my son and partner loved it so much they plan to have another weekend away to Pagoda for a well deserved rest and relax.
Wow! Can't say enough about Pagoda. The property is very beautiful with so many lodging options. Jade house was the nicest option but also loved the main house. So clean and inviting. Fresh flowers in every room. Well stock kitchens. Nice bathrooms. Comfortable beds. Beautiful grounds. Very peaceful place...an oasis and home away from home. The owner, Stephen, along with the other staff were always gracious, helpful hosts going out of their way to ensure we were comfortable. The hikes in the area were outstanding. Two beautiful waterfalls just an hour or so hike away. It truly is a gem. Lovely walk to town too. Try the Jerusalem restaurant. Delicious!
