About This Listing
The Historic Lodge, Boatshed , Cottage & unique “Glamping” units - Gypsy Caravans, Safari tents, Treehouse & Boatcabin are set in 2 acres of creative, tropical, water-front gardens, rich in bird life - Enjoy nature on the river, in stylish comfort!
P(website hidden) Lodge is a 1930's hardwood building with heaps of character.
The sweeping, golden P(website hidden) Roof and the history of Imperial Chinese treasures inspired us to decorate the Lodge with a touch of Asia-Pacific and an historical "expatriate" flavour. Imagine being an expatriate China hand in the 30's!
There are distinctive baskets, weavings, paintings, textiles and wall hangings. The often antique furniture and old travel trunks tell their own story and have been blended with interesting Pacific and Maori decor.
The beds, however, are modern and comfortable and there is satellite TV in most units.

Interaction with Guests
Some guests like privacy, while others like interaction and guidance on local attractions and events. We are happy to help when asked.
The creative tropical gardens and park like grounds go down to the edge of the river. We are surrounded by horses and luxury properties on one side and a river and famous, historic reserve and on the other side. The river flows down the entire length of our property and meets the KeriKeri Sea Inlet . A walking track leads to two waterfalls (considered the best walk in the area) & starts at our Lodge.
Great kayaking on the river and we have a private jetty.
It only takes 20 minutes to walk to town through the woods, and there are good local taxis and inter-city or major town bus services.
Other Things to Note
The P(website hidden) Lodge Estate comprises 2 acres of gardens and mature trees. There are creative, multi-tiered grounds offering many private and tranquil spaces. Please respect our wildlife and do not feed the ducks.
The river is a fish reserve, so no fishing allowed. No children in the old boat shed (lower level) and no swimming without supervision of parents.

What an amazing setting! We very much enjoyed our stay.
The family room was clean, cozy & tastefully decorated. Loved the terrace and the open gardens. Would certainly stay again!
Great tranquil location and facilities. Fantastic place to stay, quiet and tucked away but convenient to Kerikeri and everything it has to offer.
Exceptional! We 4 were so impressed by everything here. From the hosts first friendly helpful greeting and advice, to the end of our 2 night pagoda house stay, we savoured the unique bush and gardens, the tranquility and beauty of the spaces and well-resourced facilities. We appreciated being within walking distance of the picturesque stone store area, after Stephen had kindly called the restaurant to book us in.
We were sorry to leave there, it was so restful and lovely.

About the Host, Stephen
The owners, Kathy and Stephen Frewen, spent more than 20 years in Asia and were immediately drawn to the harmonious balance of “earth, wind and water”. The pagoda roofs, the variety of rare and mature trees, the tranquil river and the abundant bird life all create a certain magic, now enhanced by the serene Buddhas from Borobudur.
