About this listing
Over-the-top fabulous in the heart of Chicago's hopping East Lakeview/Boystown neighborhood, right on Lake Shore Drive. Magical bedroom w full bath can sleep three. Perfect for kids, lovely for grownups, too. Promise, it's all good.
My son isn't overjoyed with all the naked women in the apartment, but someday he'll appreciate it.
Over-the-top fabulous in the heart of Chicago's hopping East Lakeview/Boystown neighborhood, right on Lake Shore Drive. 2000 square feet on a single floor, grand rooms, vintage detailing, premier Beaux Arts rental building with 24-hour doorstaff, ginormous windows that look out onto the lake, harbor and park from every room. Whip-up breakfast in a yarn-wrapped kitchen under a disco ball, and then settle down to eat on a rosewood table under a turn of the century chandelier. Super swank pad of electric blues, chocolate brown, and an orange so vibrant it almost pulsates. Because the universe is kind, we're a show-house for the Jennifer Norback gallery, so brace yourself for some insanely cool art. The place has a good vibe.
My two adorable children (16 and 14) share a magical bohemian-forest bedroom, but it’s lovely for grown-ups, too. The kid's room has three twin beds (one is a regular bed, one is up on loft, and one is a Tempurpedic topper under the loft). My room has a totally dreamy king-size pillow top bed, the same kind they use at the Four Seasons. Both bedrooms have full bathrooms.
Our white miniature poodle, Milo, won't be here if you rent the whole place, but our fish stays.
Our pad is walking distance to the Lincoln Park Zoo, Wrigley Field, museums, and tons of great playgrounds, restaurants, shops, bars, gyms, comedy clubs and theaters, and a weekly farmer's market. The best part is the park and harbor just across the street--miles of lakefront, perfect for a morning run or a late night stroll.
Some nights, our entire apartment can be booked for $450; other nights, just the kid's bedroom for $130. The dates will be clear based on the price you see in the calendar. There's a $30 cleaning fee, but if you're booking the whole apt for a long weekend or more, it's $95. If you buy or sell any of Jennifer's artwork, you can stay the night for free!
Promise, promise, it's all good.
Interaction with Guests
If we've rented the kid's room, usually they'll stay nearby at their dad's house; sometimes they'd rather stay here and shack up in my room. In either case, the three of us are seasoned travelers and easy going -- happy to share a meal, leave you alone, or point you in the right direction.
East Lakeview/Boystown is eclectic neighborhood is a vibrant mix of hipsters, families, socialites, buskers, orthodox Jews, and gays, with just enough heart and grit to make you feel good about living in the city. Plus, we have the best gelato, cupcakes, falafel and fried Korean chicken in Chicago, hands-down.
Hop a five minute cab or the 146 express buss to downtown and the loop right out our front door. The Belmont stop El train (brown/red line) is a ten minute walk away. Hail a cab right out front in minutes. Parking is a big drag in my neighborhood, so skip the rental car. I don't own a car and happily get around on foot, cab, or bus. If you are driving, there's street parking and a public lot just a block away (Broadway and Roscoe).
Other Things to Note
There's a Divvy bike station right outside my building. If the weather's nice, grab a bike and ride downtown along the lake or explore any of Chicago's great neighborhoods.
No pets, no smoking.
As much as we love fun and games, no parties or extra guests who are not listed in the original booking.
--no shoes in the house
--please refrain from wearing strong perfumes and colognes
--hand wash the knives
--use place mats on the dining room table, especially for water glasses
--Before leaving, please change the sheets and towels and empty the garbage.
Just keep our fish breathing, we love him so (in the limited way you can love fish).
Shared the room with a friend and we had a great time alltogether! The apartment is beautiful, just as described! Jacqueline and her kids were very friendly and helpful, giving suggestions about what to see and where to shop. Communication before and during our stay was easy.
Note to light sleepers: as is clear from the description, the building is situated on a busy highway, so bring ear-plugs if that bothers you. (I didn't have any problems though.) The location itself is great as very close to the lake and express bus services towards the center. The area around it is very lively and filled with many restaurants and shops.
A friend and I chose this listing when planning to spend four days in Chicago as tourists. This was the perfect perch from which to explore the city, both on foot and by public transportation. Not only was the apartment easily accessible, by bus and then train, to and from the airport and downtown locations, but the neighborhood, in itself, was fun to explore and offered several good dining opportunities. We could see beautiful Lake Michigan from the apartment windows and, from the building door, follow its shores on foot (or bike) through parkland and the nearby -- and free(!) -- zoo. Jacqueline and her kids were very welcoming and helpful, and the apartment was both beautifully decorated and comfortable.
Jacqueline was a wonderful host and made us feel at home. The room was more spacious than pictured and was comfortable for three people. Jacqueline's kids and pup were awesome as well. Would definitely stay again.
Jacqueline was the most gracious, warm, and accommodating hostess. She was very understanding and helpful when were late on arrival, lost her keys, and broke her shower! It was a pleasure to be able to share her company and groovy space.
The neighborhood has absolutely everything you could want: great views, fabulous restaurants, taverns, sailing, biking, and archery. Also easy access to other parts of the city.
We had a great weekend visiting our son. The weather was picture perfect. Jacqueline could not have been nicer and was a wonderful host. The bus #146 is right outside the front door for a direct shot downtown.
We enjoyed ourselves.
Jacqueline was extremely welcoming! She had just hurt her leg and was hobbling all over to show us around. The apartment has a beautiful view of Lake Michigan as you are right off Lake Shore Drive. Jacqueline had yummy croissants for us in the morning. A fast and easy stay.
