Room with double bed and wood-burning fireplace in a grand old apartment in an historic Italian villa in central Ventimglia. The room's lovely terrace overlooks Ventimiglia's most elegant via, and is perfect for soaking up the sun, or sipping a glass of wine whilst watching Ventimigliesi on their evening stroll, decked out in the latest Italian fashions. The beach is 200 feet away, the train station a distance of three blocks. The historic center of Ventimiglia is a five-minute walk from the apartment, where four medieval churches are a main tourist attraction. The famous Ventimiglia covered fruit and vegetable market, which brings tourists, and many French, is only a block away.
We also rent bikes!
We serve a fantastic breakfast of all organic and Fair Trade ingredients. We eat only organic. I cook everything from ice cream to pizza from scratch.
Coddled by the maritime alps and the sea, Ventimiglia is nearly always sunny and warm in the winter. Famous for its fragrant late winter flora, the area makes for a wonderful winter holiday. Summer is never too hot, since the sea breezes keep our area balmy, but not stifling.
Monte Carlo is a 30-minute train ride from Ventimiglia station. Nice is only 40 minutes away by train.
Ventimiglia hosts many festivals throughout the year, but is also close to the many culinary festivals held in smaller villages nearby.
Liguria is the jewel of Italy, where the sea and the mountains meet.
the August medieval festival, when kings and queens, bishops and knights in ornate costumes, parade and dance. A medieval meal is held in the old town, where everyone eats like...a king, without cutlery.
the grand prix in Monte Carlo
Spring for the Artichoke festivals (Napoleon's favorite)
Fall for chestnut and farinata festivals ( how ligurians survived wars, when wheat was a luxury)
the Battle of the Flowers, usually mid June
Women's Day, when the mimosa bloom, and all businesses gives away a branch to women
Summer Jazz Festival in the old town
Music all summer on the beach promenades at night
the Befana!! Every mountain village has a central square. Every square has a fire burning from Christmas Eve to January 6th. On the 6th they burn the effigy of the witch ( a giant pinata),but only after the young men, have carried the huge wooden effigy up and down the narrow carruggi of the town. Then everyone celebrates. Some towns have produced famous jazz musicians, who show up for the party. Some towns have bigger, and more popular parties.
Italian fashion and design sales, sales, sales! three times a year. 50 to 70 % discounts.
Wine harvesting! Wine drinking. Rossese, from Dolceacqua, a few miles inland, is not aged.
Every village and town has a festival to claim either a local ingredient, or the preparation thereof. They are not kidding. A square meter of sunlight or saltwater changes the taste of cheese, of wine, and the color of artichokes. Check it out on Slowfood. These festivals are usually accompanied by music.
All the towns mentioned above can be reached by public transport, a bus that run from Ventimiglia, a block away from the villa.
Ventimiglia is unique because we have the beach, the mountains, and a beautiful river. The old town offers history and the modern part offers stylish shops, elegant yet authentic cuisine, and busy cafés.
We do not allow smoking in the apartment, nor in the room
Guests are welcome to store food in our fridge, and can eat in the kitchen, but
as we spend a lot of time in the kitchen, cooking is not allowed.
I give every guest a brief tour of Ventimiglia upon arrival, gratis, to orient our guests, and give them ideas of how to spend their time during their visit.
Elizabeth e Pier sono molto buoni, educati e disponibile.
La camera molto carina e pulita.
I thought I already posted this...
I loved my stay with Elizabeth and Pierre! Thank you so much. You were right on with all of your recommendations. Food, wine and I did take your advice and had the loveliest day trip- It was just perfect. I'll contact you next year!
Pierre and Elizabeth were great hosts. Pierre met us at the train station and walked with us back to their flat while pointing out restaurant and wine bar recommendations. The room was perfect for my husband and I with a lovely view of one of the main streets from the private balcony. We had to leave very early in the morning and they were so kind to leave a small breakfast of bread and jam for us to take on the train.
Pierre met me at the train station even though I got in later that originally scheduled, and even though I only stayed for one night, the room, breakfast, and the whole stay was excellent. Thank you again!
I had a wonderful stay in Ventimiglia. Elizabeth was very flexible about the check-in and check-out times and even came to pick me up at the train station. Upon my arrival, she gave me advice about where to eat and things to see in the area. The apartment was clean, charming and centrally located. Breakfast was served every morning and was fresh and delicious. Also...her two dogs are absolutely adorable!
This place is conveniently located between the train station and the places I wanted to see in Ventimiglia (the beach, the beautiful river, the old town, the Friday outdoor market, etc). Elizabeth was really helpful. If you are okay with two friendly dogs, this place is great!
We felt at home at Elizabeth's and Pierre place, very good vibes, the room is clean very confortable, very cute; plus of that they got two adorables dogs, very good experience
