The space

Welcome to the Boathouse!

The Boathouse is perfect for a romantic weekend. It has been converted into spectacular yet affordable accommodation, with heaps of character and two large rooms. There is a comfortable sitting room with kitchenette complete with oven, hot plates, sink and tea/coffee making facilities. There is a couch that can be used as a single bed. The boating decor, complete with antique boating accessories, painted waves & clouds, high ceiling, Stable doors and Cedar finishes creates a unique ambience!

The next door bedroom is lined with sweet smelling Japanese Cedar and has charming decor including model boats, bronze propellor, old travel trunks and rustic wall mounted textile. The Queen bed has a spectacular and high level view straight down the river through the shell of the old Slipway. Enjoy the ducks in the water below or dancing fantails and the occassional swinging possum in the rafters of the old slipway, just outside the large viewing window.
There are two private decks with garden and river views. A short walk away (less than a minute) is the central facilities block with showers and toilets.

Large, central water view deck complete with marquee and with café style seating for large groups, BBQ and Gazebo. We have our own Jetty and pontoon, ideal for swimming and Kayaks for hire.
Only the lower Boat shed is off-limits to children.

Interaction with guests

Some guests like privacy, while others like interaction and guidance on local attractions and events. We are happy to help when asked.

Other things to note

The Pagoda Lodge Estate comprises 2 acres of gardens and mature trees. There are creative, multi-tiered grounds offering many private and tranquil spaces. There is a gentle flowing river and wide views to the Inlet and adjacent, large Historic Pa Site. As such, we have plentiful and varied bird-life. Please respect our wildlife and do not feed the ducks.
The river is a fish reserve, so no fishing allowed. No children in the old boat shed (lower level) and no swimming without supervision of parents.
Many thanks

Stephen was nice, welcoming and friendly. He gave us advice for our trip and his wife helped us taking care of a sore. Lovely place in beautiful surroundings!

The Pagoda Lodge is a real special place. Set in a wonderful garden, we stayed at the remodelled boathouse, all decorated in the shabby-chic style. Truly unique. Amazing, the huge window right in front of the bed, directly above the river. The entire site however is run in backpacker style. So you share toilets and showers with campers and have to be aware, that you are - for example - asked to limit your hot-showertime to three minutes. Stephen, the host, was very friendly and helpful and gave us great tips for hiking and restaurants.

We loved our quirky accommodation in the boathouse, surrounded by beautiful gardens. Peacefully quiet. Lovely areas to sit outside.

Stephen was very welcoming, and we were always treated well. The advice we got from Stephen as to what to see around Kerikeri was invaluable and made our trip to New Zealand. The camp ground is a cosy and charming place by the river with beautiful gardens and rustic caravans spread around it. The Boathouse is a little rough compared to the images presented, but is absolutely gorgeous and filled with charm, just like the camp ground at large. If you're into glamping then you'll love the Boathouse. We certainly did, and everything about Kerikeri.

Great place - wonderful location - a pity the Internet did not work - or almost did not work for me a big issue but if you don't need Internet than a magical place to visit

Response from Stephen:
Since discovered that there was a problem with the Internet Provider, made worse by a local power cut problem, as normally our internet works fine.

The owners, Kathy and Stephen Frewen, spent more than 20 years in Asia and were immediately drawn to the harmonious balance of “earth, wind and water”. The pagoda roofs, the variety of rare and mature trees, the tranquil river and the abundant bird life all create a certain magic, now enhanced by the serene Buddhas from Borobudur.
